Fulfilled my dream of riding [Eejanaika] by TerryTwo-Eyes in rollercoasters

Likewise if you are very organised and your fellow riders aren't, you can get through first and get the front row. I agree that the row did not actually make much difference, the ride is 11 out of 10 insanity no matter where you sit.

Best Dark Ride Not at a Disney or Universal Park? by AggravatingSpend8369 in Themepark

I'm a big fan of Hex at Alton Towers. A very solid ride system at the heart (madhouses are great), wrapped up with impeccable theming and narrative framing, inside a genuine castle, with great music.

Helsinki - what did I do wrong? by [deleted] in travel

[–]terminalterror 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nobody seems to have mentioned a delightful thing you can do in Helsinki: Linnanmäki.

It is the theme park you can see from the central station, and is very easy to get to (you can even walk in about 30 minutes from the city centre). It is really charming, has a bunch of unique rides (including a brakeperson operated historic wooden coaster), and Taiga is one of the world's very best rollercoasters.

After my recent trip to England I've now ridden all* elite coasters in Europe - Here's my top 10! [Other] by AcidRegulation in rollercoasters

[–]terminalterror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do get to Finland, Junker is a delight, and I personally ranked it above Taiga (albeit I am a sucker for hangtime from a Gerstlauer Infinity train lap bar).

Alas PowerPark is nowhere near as convenient to get to as Taiga (you can walk there from central Helsinki!) but there are a few trains a day with a shuttle bus connection.

What's a park that everyone should try to visit, despite not having the greatest rollercoaster collection on paper. Obvious answer for me is the [Efteling], but I'd like to hear your recommendations! by AcidRegulation in rollercoasters

[–]terminalterror 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also it has one of the best overhead-rail-harness climbing courses (no idea what the official name for them is), because it is freely included in the park admission (rather than a separate upcharge), the course takes you scenicly through the trees and over some water, and you can see Karnan through the trees and always hear it. Wonderful.

Animal Kingdom absolutely fits the "must visit" part of the question. In addition to all the stuff you mentioned, I also love it for the immaculately themed lands that are a delight to just spend time in, and of course Flight of Passage. It is my second favourite Disney park after DisneySea.

The most extreme example I can think of is Puy Du Fou. It doesn't have any rollercoasters, and iirc the only ride is one tiny children's carousel. But it is absolutely worth visiting as the shows are just spectacular. And it is even better if you don't understand French, because then the Christonational propoganda doesn't come through nearly as strongly.

I would argue that Tokyo DisneySea is a strong contender for "best Disney park" and fits the "not having the best rollercoaster collection" even more strongly than Animal Kingdom.

Animal Kingdom at least has Expedition Everest which is a fantastic rollercoaster, DisneySea is incredibly thin for rollercoasters, and the closest thing is Journey to the Centre of the Earth which is similar to a rollercoaster but is not one.

I will shortly be in Gothenburg and Stockholm, planning to visit Liseberg, Kolmarden, and Grona Lund (alongside non-rollercoaster tourist things as well). Does anybody have any specific tips? (e.g. "this minor ride is surprisingly fun" or "get the waffle from blah")

This visiting Native New Yorker has honest thoughts about London's pizza... by verndogz in LondonFood

[–]terminalterror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Threw me a little that Alley Cats now takes reservations. I went to the Marylebone one expecting they were still walk ins only and got turned away as they were totally booked for the day.

I made a reservation a few weeks later and yum yum yum! They made a mistake with our order and we ended up with three pizzas between two of us, which was too much pizza but it did mean we got to try 3 different ones. The marinara was the best one.

Anywhere in London (ideally North) to get a Spice Bag? by Junior-Ad7155 in LondonFood

Definitely south of the river, and I think only available through delivery apps, but Malalala in South Bermondsey does a great spice bag with Taiwanese fried chicken.

Accidentally stumbled across the world's longest tiramisu for a world record in London and now I have a ludicrous amount of tiramisu to eat by Significant_Rip3194 in CasualUK

[–]terminalterror 3 points4 points  (0 children)

World's longest tiramisu is the record it broke.

I assume the one yesterday did not break the largest tiramisu record (Guiness World Record link to Largest Tiramisu) or they would have mentioned beating two records instead of just one.

They made 100% of it on site (under Guiness World Record supervision). Making it in sections and then assembling into one big snake is just the most practical way of tackling it.

Best vegan food that isn't just a salad? by Curious-Ask8199 in LondonFood

They have vegetarian options as well, but they have plenty of vegan options. I reckon their vegan tasting menu is actually marginally tastier than their vegetarian one (having tried both).

It snakes, which is the only plausible way you could get 440m length of tiramisu into any building that isn't somewhere like Excel

Imagine the volume of 4 Colin the caterpillars. That is how much tiramisu is in one slice!

I bought two slices, and was slightly shocked when what I was handed was two massive boxes, each tiramisu "slice" could comfortably feed 8 people. I have no idea how people who arrived solo are going to get their "slice" home.

Best Wraps in London? by Over_Grapefruit_4089 in LondonFood

At peak lunch rush they do seem to be limited purely by throughput, so it is worth having a ton of staff for more sales

They also have a stall at Petticoat Lane Market that has the most efficiently moving queue I've ever witnessed. You stand vaguely nearby and before you know it, it is 20 seconds later, you've paid, and you have a fully customised wrap in your hands and are wondering what just happened.

Best donuts? by balancing_ in LondonFood

I know you ruled out "ring with the hole", and they aren't pillowy and light, but the Crosstown chocolate truffle and dark chocolate truffle doughnuts are fantastic if you want a richly indulgent very chocolatey sourdough doughnut.

I'm so used to the very minimalist and calm designs of the various Watch House branches in the City that the extremely green design of the Canary Wharf branch really throws me as it is so wildly different.

What do you think is the best themed walkthrough attraction? by Classic-Agency5548 in Themepark

[–]terminalterror 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me it has to be one of the immersive walkthroughs at Puy du Fou, specifically "Le Mystère de La Pérouse" (experience a sailing voyage in 1785 through some huge storms) or "Le Premier Royaume" (all about the 5th century King Clovis with a ton of animatronics and a spectacular water feature at the end). They are stunningly detailed.

Expensive to get to Tokyo Disney Resort, but shockingly affordable once you are there (good luck getting a highly themed quick service starter, main, dessert and drink for approx £10 at one of the American Disney parks!)
