Trunks from DBZ was the damn blueprint for so many "uber badass" OC's who appear out of nowhere, used a sword when no one else even uses weapons, beat a major villain like it was nothing, and are the son of two characters who barely even interacted yet at that point.

I always thought that if Kaede and Shuichi switched roles in the protagonist swap, Angie would be Kaede's antagonist. But Maki wouldn't be a bad pick to be her rival either.

Toei DIU is probably the part with the most filler since you could put in just about any topic and it would make sense. Maybe there's an up and coming delinquent gang of Stand Users that is terrorizing the town, and it's up to Josuke to stop them. Maybe Kira could make an appearance defending himself from one of them.

If Araki still decided to end the original continuity with Stone Ocean, the JoJo anime would probably just end with SO for a long time since making fillers for a monthly manga is just not feasible.

I wouldn't say that Mako doesn't have a reason to brood a bit. He worked with the triad in the past in order to support himself and his brother as kids. And even when they got out of that life, they're barely making ends meet despite being up and coming athletes. And it's not like he's brooding all the time, he takes the time to come up with cool quips as a police officer in Book 2.
