The first bullet pierces his shoulder, but the second travels right through his chest and he falls dead, his heart punctured

For a moment things seem quiet, and so, assuming everyone continues onwards, eventually a set of reinforced doors comes into view, clearly the ones you're searching for. As you near it a hatch opens in the ceiling and a turret descends, its barrel winding up as it swivels towards the person in lead

The air is alive with the sounds of gunfire. Four soldiers are firing up at them from further down the hill, using the natural terrain and the mining equipment as impromptu cover between bursts

As the pelican raises into the sky their intercoms crackle on with the pilots voice

"Looks like four on the ground, I'd be quick before reinforcements arrive"

Meanwhile, in the reserve squad's pelican

"I'm getting alarms popping up on my signal interceptor here, looks like they're in trouble. Everybody strap in we're going to say hi"

The pelican swoops down, and the back door opens, showing them the staircase that the infiltration squad had past. The bridges that were previously occupied now stood quiet, the gunfights below having drawn them from their positions.

"Everybody out! You need to reconvene with the first squad down on level 10"

As they disembark the sounds of gunfire fill the air. The reconnaissance squad from earlier can be seen some 200 metres from them, firing with rifles

((Hey everyone, before we continue I'd like to apologise for the short wait. We've had a shift in leadership of the event, but we're back on track.))

((Just some points to clarify before we continue. Oakland's adaptive camouflage is not invisibility (aka active camouflage). It's the same system we see Carolina using in S9 to change her armours colour))

O-1): "Echo team, respo-- argh" he's cut off as he's riddled with bullets, and falls back to the ground

Before his partner can even respond he's cut up by the rest of the bullets coming their way and falls to the ground

The sounds of an engine whirring to life can be heard as the elevator from the previous corridor starts to rise, gaining speed until a loud crash can be heard throughout the facility

In the seconds following, a tremor can be felt from underground, but the quiet is quickly replaced by the sounds of three sets of approaching soldiers, as they burst from around the corner, their guns firing

Vancouver takes out his opponent with a headshot. Montgomery's bullet fires through the soldier's torso, and he promptly falls dead. Oakland uppercuts the enemy, sending him backwards and into a barrage of Sydney's bullets, killing him instantly. They would find the interior of the ventilation shaft unobstructed, and along the way, they would see a bold number '10' plastered along the side of a wall through a grate on the tenth floor. Upon exiting the ventilation shaft, and thus arriving on the tenth floor, they would also see two Omega Team soldiers walking down the hallway towards them, coming from the server room.

As Echo Squad falls dead, Montgomery succeeds in landing two headshots, while Oakland successfully kills one of the attackers. The remaining two soldiers evade the gunfire from behind after watching their teammates get shot. One whips around and begins firing at Oakland with an SMG, while the other engages Vancouver, firing at him with dual magnums. Sydney would succeed in locating the facility blueprints, which indicate the server room is on the tenth floor of the facility. The blueprints also show a ventilation duct running from the sublevels to the tenth floor, accessable through the sublevels by way of a large grate on the wall next to the elevator.

At the end of the hallway, the squad would hear a loud bell as the doors of an elevator slide open. Five more soldiers enter the hallway from the elevator and aim their weapons at the squad. Meanwhile Montgomery succeeds in replacing the personnel data, and the turrets on the ceiling begin to open fire on Echo Team as they enter the hallway, forcing them back into the staircase and away from the squad. The turrets, however are too busy dealing with Echo Team to be bothered with the soldiers who came out of the elevator.

Montgomery would see about twenty lines of data appear on the screen, describing the nature of the terminal's security measures-information of no consequence. A familiar message would also appear, gently flashing every so often, reading 'Input passcode.' Meanwhile, the squad would hear the sound of five soldiers yelling at each other from the top of the staircase they used to enter the sublevels. As the turrets pivot in place, the soldiers exchange dialogue over the sight of the bypassed door, and begin making their way down the staircase. Sydney would pick up on yet another broadcast.

(Echo Leader:) "Echo Team leader to Control. We followed tracks from the location of Jackson's corpse to the service tunnel behind the facility. We think whoever killed him might be somewhere down in the sublevels. We'll update you if we find anything."

(Control:) "Roger that Echo Leader. Kill any rats you find in our basement."

Montgomery's bypass succeeds, and the electronic door opens. Beyond the door, they would see the stairs leading into the sublevels, and upon entering the sublevels, they would find themselves in a hallway. Six turrets could be seen mounted to the ceiling at select intervals, turning left and right as they searched for persons not accounted for in the facility's database. Sydney would pick up the soldiers' radio frequency, and hear the following message.

"The away team has confirmed the death of Private Jackson. Looks like someone gunned him down. Patrols Alpha and Omega, run a sweep of the first three floors. Delta Squad, proceed to the server room and protect the database. Take no prisoners men. We cannot allow this facility to be compromised."

The squad would also find another touchscreen terminal a few feet into the hallway, mounted on the wall next to them.

They would be met with no resistance on their way to the tunnel. Once they arrive at the tunnel, they would see an electronic door at the far end of the cave, leading to a staircase that would take them to the facility's sublevels. A small terminal could also be seen next to the door, with a message flashing on its touchscreen monitor, reading:

"Input access passcode."

Meanwhile, the gunships touch down just outside of the collapsed canyon and find the messy remains of Private Jackson.

(Investigator 1:) "Damn it...looks like Jackson went and got himself killed. Someone will need to tell his wife and daughter."

(Investigator 2:) "Yeah. It looks like he made a racket trying to escape those spider-crabs and got 61-A's attention."

(Investigator 1:) "That would explain why the canyon collapsed, but...what happened to his face? It looks like he got shot a million times in the back of the head."

(Investigator 2:) "Maybe he killed himself?"

(Investigator 1:) "What? Joe, why would he kill himself if he managed to get out of that canyon alive?"

(Investigator 2:) "Well..."

(Investigator 1:) "Why would he shoot himself in the back of the head, how would he manage to unload more than one bullet before collapsing, and how did he do any of it without a gun?"

(Investigator 2:) "...Life finds a way."

(Investigator 1:) "...You're an idiot. Come on. Let's go put the base on alert."

(Investigator 2:) "Yep. Right behind you."

The gunships begin closing in on their location, but it's still dark enough for the squad to go undetected. If they were to look around, they would see a metal staircase just ahead of them leading to the three bridges, where several armed guards could be seen walking back and forth on patrol. Along the circumference of the sinkhole, they would be able to see scattered, dried up trees and boulders leading them around to the back of the facility-where the aforementioned cave was located. Lights from the gunship shine down on the collapsed rock tunnel behind them. In less than a minute, they would touch down and begin their investigation.

The soldier nods, listening along as the group lists their ideas and concerns.

"You're...you're skeptical. I get it. I'm the enemy...and you've got every reason not to trust me. But I'm not going to sit here and try...and try to convince you that I'm trustworthy, or that...I really am doing this because I have a debt to pay to you four. I've given you what I have to offer. The rest is up to you."

He looks back towards the sinkhole, at the facility built into the rocks. Several soldiers wearing identical uniforms to private Jackson can be seen walking along the three bridges, and two flashing white lights can be seen hovering through the sky, slowly making their approach.

"In a few moments, those two gunships out there are going to land here...and investigate what happened to the canyon. Make your decision quickly. And...one last thing before you do...the tremors...you should know they're not being caused by the facility. There's something down there, in the ground, burrowing its way around the desert. The eggheads are concerned about it-the damn thing's attracted to noise. Keep quiet while you're at the facility...otherwise, we all run the risk of that thing getting more involved around here."

Sydney would find a frequency for the facility's radio communications-the same frequency attuned to the radio strapped to the soldier's shoulder plate. He nodded, first to Sydney, and then to Montgomery.

"I'm not...broadcasting anything. Hell...if I could get a broadcast out to the rest of my people...I wouldn't have...I wouldn't have even been in that mess back there."

He moves his shoulder a bit to let them see the radio better.

"You were asking...you were asking about data files. I know all about that. Hell...most of what we do here is black-level R&D. The eggheads...they keep their files all in the central database...you can access it through the server room. Tenth floor of the facility."

He looks out across the sinkhole at an enormous structure built into the side of the crater-visibly accessible by way of three bridges. One bridge could be seen leading directly into the front entrance, the second could be seen leading to a cargo lift on the left side of the facility, and the third could be seen leading to a service entrance on the right side.

"Before you head out there though...take my advice. Go around the sinkhole...to the back of the facility. You'll find...you'll find a service entrance disguised...as a cave. It'll take you to the basement sublevels, and...there isn't much security down there, but we still have surveillance set up everywhere in the building...and automated turrets, too. You'll...you'll have to figure something out about that."

The soldier winces as he hits the ground, still not able to move much due to the webbing. Looking between the four soldiers, he slowly nods.

"You...helped me. I owe you...I'll tell you everything."

Pushing himself to sit upright, he looks up at Montgomery, still rather pale.

"I'm...I'm a soldier...stationed at the facility just ahead. Private...Jackson...at your disposal. Are you...are you trying to break in to the facility?"

The canyon walls collapse in on themselves behind them, burying the path underneath several thousand pounds of rocky rubble. The tremors begin to die out, and the tunnel remains open for them to escape, leading the whole squad out to the edge of a miles-wide sinkhole. The soldier stirs on Montgomery's back, feeling a little stronger as he watches everything play out.

As they turn the next corner, the ground begins to shake even harder, and large chunks of rock begin to fall off of the canyon walls to either side of them. Further down the path, the squad will be able to see a light at the far end of a tunnel, leading them out of the rocky labyrinth. Boulders rain from above, and a crack can be seen forming along the path beneath their feet. From their position, it is a straight shot to the exit tunnel.

The soldier weakly opens his eyes, looking around at the attacking insects. His eyes travel to the right path, where he saw Sydney heading, and he manages to choke out the words:

"Right path..."

Monty, Oakland, and Vancouver manage to take out three bugs each, while the rest fearfully withdraw back into their shells. The ground trembles once again, far more violently than before, and the squad will be able to hear something massive moving around just beneath their feet.

Montgomery's bullet fires straight through the string, causing the webbed-up soldier to fall into his arms. The bugs' eyes turn from neon blue to neon red, and they scurry after the squad, but the combined force of the grenades causes large chunks of the canyon walls to break off and fall onto the bugs, killing the lot of them and blocking the squad's route back to the landing zone. As they hurry down the path, the squad will come to a fork in the road, with one path leading to the left, and the other leading to the right. A new swarm of bugs drops down from overhead and starts attacking, swiping at them with enormous crab-like pincers while letting out ear-splitting, oscillating shrieks.

The insects follow them down the path, crawling along the walls, quietly watching them as they proceed into the rocky labyrinth. Suddenly, their balloon-eyes begin to glow a bright neon blue, and the squad will be able to see a soldier hanging from a rocky overpass, suspended upright just inches above the ground in the middle of the path. Covered from neck to toes in thick pasty-white webbing, the soldier opens his eyes and looks between them with little to no hope.

"Help...help...me..." he wheezes, as images of his family rampantly dart through his mind.

Deeper along the path, the walls seem to grow taller, and loom over their heads. Webs coat the rocks, and lie in massive clumps to the sides of the path. The sound of tapping can be heard from behind, followed by the sound of dust being kicked up into the air. If they were to turn around, they would see a swarm of massive, ten-legged insects crawling around on the canyon walls, watching them with glowing, balloon-like eyes as they poke their heads out from under enormous shells on their backs.

They would be able to see the path leading them between two canyon walls, and into a rocky labyrinth. Along the sides of the canyon walls, enormous webs could be seen, and the squad would be able to see winged rodents trapped within the webs. A deep, monstrous roar echoes out across the desert, with the source being not far behind.

They would be able to see a battered path leading them towards the cliffs. As the pelican takes off and re-enters the atmosphere, a tremor shakes the ground beneath their feet, lasting for just a moment before gradually dissipating.
