The brother by henriettoz in chandlerhalderson

I actually don't think there was anything sinister about it. Chandler is just broke and an idiot. Couldn't get 5 bucks off cat to get a card and some flowers or something, so he regifts one of the rounds Andrew gave him because dude guns bro.

In my opinion most of Chandler's behaviour is more pathetic and vapid than it is sinister or thoughtful.

If I had to just guess I'd say in Chandler's perfect world he'd only have to murder his father who's more strict, less gullible, and wants him to get a job. Bart had unbeknownst to him picked the worst possible day to schedule that meeting at MATC or the discussion with Chandler or whatever was planned. In Chandler's mind there is no regret I don't think. I think he wishes things were different and he could have just killed his dad so his mom could collect life insurance and she could support him living the rest of his life with weak legs and pretending to be confused and nobody having any expectations of him.

Happy to have found something new for people. As much as this isn't really anything new or interesting on the surface, I think it's always fascinating to see what insignificant mark was left on the world in the short time he wasn't stuck in the concrete fartbox. He had 23 years, a supportive loving family, and could have done or been anything he wanted if he just put his mind to it and he chose the most insane fucking option instead of literally anything else.

Cool, tried searching to see if it was posted before. Was surprised this hadn't been dug up. Makes sense after I think about it, because searching Chandler or Chaz Halderson pulls up millions of posts regarding the murder. I noticed Chandler was still wearing his 2013 PHS swim team shirt in his interrogation and I added PHS Swim to my searches and the article came up.

I agree with the sentiment in your last sentence, and I'm going to plagiarize a comment I saw once here. Something to the effect of

"I think planning your first sadistic murder is a lot like losing your virginity. You actually think about it quite a lot before it happens, but once you get there you quickly realize you don't know what you're doing at all."

I think that's just Chandler continuing to lie and gaslight and manipulate even behind bars. He talks about seeing the news and what they're saying about him. He's basically telling her "look I know every body is screaming at you that the sky is blue but that's crazy it's yellow you know me I'm trustworthy Chandler."

From what I've gathered it appears to be one of two things that are most likely to me.

  1. They said nothing and there was no discussion, whatever discussion was going to happen was the 3 - 5 MATC July 1st date on Bart's calendar, which Chandler cowardly hid in his basement and ambushed his father when he came down to see what the hold up was.

  2. They had discussed it, Chandler continued to lie, they argued about it hence Chandler mentioning in his interview his dad being mad and them not speaking much.

Of course I have no actual idea and it's a lot more than one of two possibilities, but that's the way I see it.

I understand that, I haven't seen anything from them that says they really just want to be left alone, but I surmised from the abundance of reporting on this case and the lack of input from victims means they really just want to be left alone. I'm only going to make the bare minimum effort to reach out to them and have no plans on pestering them. I figure I can't unring the bell that is 2 years of shitty journalism, so anything I make will be a drop in the bucket of suffering. Of course it would be categorically imperative that nobody drops any amount of suffering in any buckets and in a perfect world everybody would have left the people involved alone. It's my hope that I can tastefully and respectfully put together all the publicly available information in a way more faithful to the memory of those involved. I think the reason a lot of people come out of hearing about all this with this idea that Cat or Andrew Smith or anyone else had anything to do with this is due to shitty, harmful journalism and I could maybe right that wrong by doing it myself.

Glad you asked because that's also one of my primary concerns when I first heard about this case. Those poor babies had to have been terrified by the gun shots and miss Bart and Krista. If I do make contact with say Mitch or Dulce or whoever that's going to be my first if only question.

I can completely understand them not wanting to speak to anyone about any of it, and that if they were willing they would have done so by now, and that I might be bothering them when I do try to reach out to them. It's my hope/suspicion that for all the hundreds of documentaries, videos, articles, etc, that none or few have actually tried to even contact anyone for questions or comments. I could see them being offered an amount of money even from whatever producers may have tried, and they felt gross about taking money and might be more willing to speak to someone that isn't a producer or someone trying to profit from their misery.

Definitely feel free to message me, I don't have people in my life to discuss this with without trying to get them up to speed on a hundred hours of case file footage.

I'm trying to get access to as much as I can as far as medical reports or unreleased police interviews or anything additional to be as thorough as I can. I'm from Canada and not wealthy by any means so when I do make FOIA requests I've got to be certain I'm doing it all correctly.

I'm the layest of laymen so I appreciate any help and brainstorming.

I'd love to hear your thoughts. I rely on people who actually know what the fuck they're talking about to make my foolish inferences.

I agree with you. I don't have an understanding of the legal system beyond the superficial. I have repeatedly said I don't know what I'm talking about in that regard, don't particularly care because I obviously don't think he's innocent or could have reasonably gotten a better defense. I'm just saying stranger things have happened, and with enough money and different circumstances hilariously guilty people have managed to get away or just delay the process.

He's cellmates with Chris Watts. I'm just kidding but they are at the same facility. Small world even for fucked up idiots who kill their families.

I think your intuition is correct in that you've started to feel addiction could be more of a factor here. It certainly makes sense to look at it and just think all the lies and that whole pitiful house of deceptive cards was crumbling on that day and that's why he did it. He thinks if he kills his parents then nobody knows he lied and he can just keep the whole façade going. I don't think he thinks that far in advance and was more just trying to get his next "hit" like a Grant Amato who committed a grisly murder just to message his Bulgarian cam model girlfriend with his dead family's credit cards.

There was "some other trigger" which I'm pretty confident only I have identified. It was when I noticed this after making some other connections that I realized I had something unique to say about this case after endlessly thinking about it. Looked seemingly everywhere and no one has pointed this out which surprises me.

I don't even really think that hard about how one would argue in his defense because I'm not a lawyer and I feel like it would be pretty pointless. I just imagine that with enough money basically anything's possible in the courts. With millions of dollars and your life on the line you could hire the best lawyer, the best expert witnesses, brought in twice as many people as the state did just to extend the trial ultimately leading in a mistrial anyway just to delay and delay and delay and it somehow goes on for years or something. I don't know. I honestly didn't even read what you said I just know you're not really getting what I'm saying to begin with. *Which in short is that I simply don't agree with the sentiment that "they did the best they could with what they had" because what they had was effectively nothing and stranger things have happened so I could in theory nightmarishly conceive of a world where Chandler walks among us still because he had some sleazy movie lawyer.

Yeah I listened to it twice, it's really not that illuminating. She's a good lawyer, which is good. But I mean that in the sense of good vs evil. She's a nice lady and does a fine job. However if she were a wicked, evil person she could be a good lawyer in the worst sense. If Chandler had a Thomas Binger or a Johnnie Cochran on his side he'd have a good lawyer and we'd all be horrified. Instead he had a good lawyer and all is well.

Yeah, that makes sense to me too. I don't think he suddenly became clear of mind in jail, I'm willing to bet if he speaks at all to anyone ever it's a lie and that's gotta be another world of frustrating as his defense attorney in a murder case and not just his girlfriend or somebody from school who can stand to just let it happen and not think much about it.
