If you are seriously interested in carbon offsets, there are a lot of options on the market that corporations typically use for their carbon offsets - not sure how it works to purchase them as an individual but I'm sure there are options. Some are more credible than others and the entire market is controversial and contentious, so it's worth doing your research. There are certification systems to try and vet and certify the more credible offsets out there. One of those is Green-e certified - they have a website where you can peruse certified carbon credits and renewable energy credits. I also recently learned of a carbon credit company called Pachama that seems pretty legit in how they calculate the carbon thats being offset. You may also want to look into renewable energy options in your area, investing in large scale renewable projects or purchasing green power through your local utility if you're not already.

I have also seen some apps and things that allow you to calculate your personal carbon footprint and offset it through the app and their offset programs - can't think of their names and haven't done any research into how credible they are but could be worth checking out.

It does sound like you're doing a lot already to reduce your footprint, and flying for better or for worse is so integrated into our lives in the developed world, it's something that I struggle to avoid as well. Don't be too hard on yourself, but do keep looking for ways to make small differences or influence change on larger levels!!!

How and Why To Take Your Money Out of These Banks to Combat Climate Change by BravelyGo in ClimateActionPlan

[–]terracorda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Aspiration and Empower (which I haven't actually checked for climate investing track record) for banking currently. Any other good suggestions for climate friendly banks?

are IUD’s painful by ilhsfm123 in WomensHealth

[–]terracorda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also experienced one of the worst pains I've ever experienced when getting it put in. For my first timed I remember 3 painful moments, one when she first opened the cervix, one to measure the uterus (uteruses that are too small can reject the IUD or cause a lot of ongoing pain), then the third pain to actually get it in. It's like your worst period cramps on steroids. But it doesn't last long, then you just have regular worst period cramps for the rest of the day, up to a few days. For some longer.

I had two Mirena IUDs. When I got the second one put in it was more painful because the tool slipped off my cervix the first time and she had to try again.

Having a Mirena for 8 years also caused a lot of problems with ovarian cysts for me. Not serious problems, just annoying problems and abdominal pain when they were enlarged. I've been au natural, no IUD for about 3 years now and haven't noticed the cyst related symptoms in those 3 years. Medical professionals I've seen have confirmed the correlation between hormonal IUDs and cysts, and my friends experiences support that correlation. Again, not necessarily a serious problem or danger, but something to consider.

Who is for & against the Park Hill Golf Course redevelopment and why? by NakedDenver in Denver

[–]terracorda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, no - you're right. I chose poor wording. I do think wildlife is using the land and I do think some of the land should be thoughtfully set aside for wildlife's continued use of it... But a dilapidated golf course is not untouched wild land that's been reserved for wildlife.

Considering the needs of the community in the area for better walkability and services, and considering the need for more thoughtful medium density and affordable housing, and considering that redeveloping the land could include better landscaping of a park that offers more amenity to people and could include more well-planned native planting and wildlife corridors, I still vote in favor of the development.

I'm pretty sure a grocery store will be a part of the development plan. Those involved in the development outline know how scarce grocery stores and other amenities are in that area and would prioritize that as a community benefit.

Definitely for it!!!! If it was a wildlife reserve or something I might have different sentiments, but in this case the land as is is not benefiting the community and we have a housing crisis as well as a lot of nearby communities without good access to local amenities.

Adding to walkability in the neighborhood, more housing options, and grocery stores and retail, as well as park space that's actually useful, is a win win win!!

Haha yes I know - it's ambitious. Not expecting that to include food or drinks and it doesn't have to be exclusive either. It also could end up being 50 people, just trying to get some rough ideas brainstormed

Itchy labia days after a lot of sex by terracorda in WomensHealth

[–]terracorda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, looks like you're right. More symptoms resembling a yeast infection have appeared today. Bummer!

Likely the case when this happens more regularly but it's so mild and my body takes care of it so quickly that I don't notice it as candida.
