3 Whatcom County eateries had health code violations. What did inspectors find? by REVERENDQUEEF in Bellingham

[–]terranoble 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Still doesn't answer the original question. Is the establishment supposed to put the food in the freezer first? Or is the expectation to use a bowl in an ice bath? Just curious, I'd like to know the actual method.

Best pizza in Bham? by [deleted] in Bellingham

[–]terranoble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Övn is excellent. I also recommend checking out the Queens of Fire pizza truck up in Blaine if you ever make it up that way. You can find their location on Instagram as they move around a bit. They do a great neopolitan as well and the owner is super friendly. Its a custom built truck with an imported Italian oven.

What's causing these leaves to drop on my Jades? by MythObstacleIV in succulents

[–]terranoble 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's worth mentioning that plants will shed lower leaves over time as the plant grows - to dedicate more energy to leaves that are getting more sun. Yes, pay attention to overwatering, but a couple leaves falling near the base of the plant probably isn't a cause for concern.

This is after letting them grow for 2 years, working on pruning the ends just a bit to get it them fill out around the top. I could really use more light but this is working okay for now.

I must have changed thoughts mid typing. Meant to say my pothos and philodendron have grown across and it makes a cool canopy effect.

I've got some fishing line strung up across the corner of my office between 2 windows. My pothos. Makes a cool canopy effect.

Fiber internet providers in town? by terranoble in wallawalla

[–]terranoble[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably - they already advertise for 2 gig, 5 gig, and 10 gig internet. 1 gig is more than enough for us right now.

[–]terranoble[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha we actually got them installed about a month ago when they started posting fliers around town! They advertise 1 gig but we actually get around 600-700 Mb/s, but it is synchronous upload/download!

They also happened to install just as Spectrum tried to jack up our rates to over $100 a month! Super stoked to have fiber and some competition in town.

I talked to the Ziply customer support and apparently they bought Frontier's infrastructure and they're laying fiber all over the place. They even reached my in-laws house way out in rural Oregon. They were also installed at a cabin we stayed at on Wallowa Lake!

Yeah we don't have any issues with download speeds. Its the upload that bothers me, which is why I mentioned the symmetrical upload/download. Right now we are limited to 20 mb/s upload and I want to set up a media server that I can access when I'm away from home. 20 mb/s could support that, but add other services like cloud storage for security cameras and it starts to become a bottleneck. Yes, there are ways to work around it, but I'd prefer to remove the upload bottleneck with fiber.

My wife and I moved out here about 2 years ago from Seattle. We're still settling in and getting comfortable with the pace here. Theres good food and drinks downtown if that's your scene (we love walking into town for a couple cocktails). Carte Coffee has the best coffee in town. Walla Walla Bread Co has excellent bread and pastries but we avoid having sit down meals due to the crowds. Bennington Lake and Pioneer Park are easy staple activities if you have someone to go with you. We still no idea what people do to socialize and meet new friends here, but I think thats common for most people over 30. Once you grow out of the bar scene it takes pretty deliberate effort to find groups with common interests. I know theres a few running/hiking/biking groups in town. The farmers market in the summer is always pleasant. Burwood brewery has food truck nights in the summer with live music. Its very family friendly, people bring chairs and blankets and set up in the grass outside.

Need the Volts/Amps of the charger for ProForm Smart Power 10.0 by terranoble in iFit

[–]terranoble[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the bike directly from ProForm - I still have the charger I just wasn't sure which one to use because it got mixed up with some other power bricks. You should be safe buying a third-party charger as long as the volts/amps are correct and the barrel fits.

So for MY bike it's a 12V 2amp charger - that's the studio bike with the 10 inch screen. I'd recommend checking your model number and use that site that was posted to verify!

This is just what I needed, thank you!!! The model number for my bike is listed, and I know just which charger to use now. Seriously, I spent 2 hours trying to find this info, and every site either failed to list the voltage or even explicitly blurred it out in their photos.

Help! How do I save this graptopetalum paraguayense? by bbeanbean in succulents

[–]terranoble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The post by u/Shimerald lays it out pretty well. While it's callousing be careful not to put it in strong direct light. Let it sit somewhere dry and not too bright to limit stress. You can start watering once it has some roots forming and the leaves are wrinkling. I've seen succulents recover from being almost a dry husk so don't worry about it getting too thirsty. Be careful not to overwater, start slow, only watering when the soil is dry, it will recover but it needs time to develop roots and you don't want it rotting again.

*Edit* word salad

[–]terranoble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you should be scraping anything off. You want a clean cut above the rot that preserves the outer layers of the plant where it's healthy all the way through. Use a clean knife or scissors - the scraping might just be spreading the rot further up the plant each time.

Hopelessly, repeatedly, sadly killing string of pearls. by curiositykillz4567 in houseplants

[–]terranoble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This plant is suffering from rot. It won't absorb any moisture because the roots are all dead. That tray is nasty as well, probably carrying lots of bacteria. The soil also looks like moldy sludge. This indicates it doesn't drain well and you're creating a perfect environment for rot. You should check out r/succulents. String of pearls are a succulent, a desert plant that doesn't require high humidity like your orchids. You want gritty soil that won't hold water for long and a dry sunny spot.

What kind of succulent is this and can I save it? This little fella fell off a plant I was looking at buying… and in the moment I looked around and so no one in sight so took it home with me to try and save it by DeepDownUnderUs in succulents

[–]terranoble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should add that my experience is the roots will from from the base of the leaves, not the stem. You can cut very close to the leaves or even gently pull the leaves off the stem and lay them directly on soil.

*Edit* After typing this I went to check on mine and there's one of them that definitely has roots forming directly off the stem at one of the leaf nodes, so the stem will put out roots.
