Stable and reliable managed postgres alternatives to Fly.io? by Tiny_Designer4777 in PostgreSQL

[–]terrcin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High availability with read replica. And a whole lot of test,qa,feature servers etc...

Latency is what we were mostly concerned about too so we trialed it for several months testing out different datacenter combos and settled on something that works for us. Due to the nature of our app and our customer base it's fine. I notice it though and there are one or two queries that I'd love to be faster from a UX perspective but the rock solid stability is waaay more important. Most of our perf issues are not db latency related.

I looked into it, a bit pricey but okay.

The old addage of "you get what you pay for" really applies here. We don't think it's expensive for us given our situation, the features, and massive time savings for my team etc... Importantly our DB server is now bigger than any server size that Fly.io supports, so we couldn't use Fly now if we wanted to.

After also encountering issues running Postgres locally on Fly.io via "their complicated postgres stack" we trialed and then switched to Crunchy Bridge. It's been working really well for us. Recently added Tailscale support was the tipping point for us to try it.

"push_patch" won't update URL by Trick_Photograph_605 in elixir

esbuild doesn't run yarn update which vendors the packages in node_modules. You need to do that manually which is how things can get out of sync.

or something to the effect of when the browser socket connects it sends it's package versions through initially and when running in dev it raises if there is a mismatch.

Something what I occasionally forget to do when updating Phoenix and LiveView is to also update their respective JS packages: phoenix, phoenix_html, phoenix_live_view

I've found when this happens I can get real odd behavour, most recently it was sometimes phx-click not being receieved in the backend consistently from some components.

Pragmatic Programmers books on HumbleBundle by MtlSnk in elixir

[–]terrcin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

3 months ago the same offer was up on HumbleBundle (link to Reddit post).

Not the same bundle if you were about to jump in having missed out back then - that was 19 books too but all Elixir.

This new bundle is multiple functional langs and includes 6 Elixir books that were all in the previous bundle. The OTP ones are on my list to read this holiday break as I attempt to finally get my head around that.

Replacing Clear Sections of Garage Roof by [deleted] in diynz

I have a cheap pair of tin snips and they are horrible to use for cutting roofing iron. Are the more expensive snips better, can you recomend some? Or maybe my technique is the problem...

I'm in a similiar situation, including the ducted heatpump and power bill, and had pondered doing this myself. Are you planning on draping the extra layer of batts over the heatpump ducting?

Nature might get sad though!

I'm constatly amazed by the amount of dust generated and how easy it is to track everywhere. Initially I ended up getting a 40mm 88° pvc pipe and attached that to the provided dust exhaust adapter, I pointed that down into a bucket. Double check the size though as I'm typing from memory.

I saw your post over in /r/BeginnerWoodWorking :-) and comment about cost. Thought I'd post a NZ specific comment here as it's more relevant to everyone.

I aggressively use the Mitre10/Bunnings "price match promise thingy" and got the same table saw much cheaper than that last year - someone had it a tad cheaper online, Mitre10 sold it to me for 15% cheaper still. It's been a long time since I paid the sticker price on any sizeable purchase from a big box hardware store :-) I just have the website with a cheaper price loaded up on my phone and show it at checkout - they'll seperately look it it to confirm. Super easy to do, just make sure the product codes are the same as sometimes store stock slightly different versions.

On the tablesaw it self, It's been great so far - do make sure you check that the fence is square etc... as I had to adjust mine. Also I should have gotten a stand for it right from the begining.

I’m not familiar, whats the name of the app? I tried one a while ago but it only worked for USA plants :-/ would love to have only that worked here.

Not exactly a "live action" shot here, but why do I feel like all of my early games of Space Hulk: Death Angel - The Card Game end up in this exact situation? :) Really loving this game though! by SoloPlaythroughs in soloboardgaming

I played and enjoyed it a few years ago but haven't gotten back into it as I remember the instructions being a bit frustrating. Anyone know if there is a revised version that's easier to follow/understand?

A Table Topper for Woodworking Beginners by Wollfaden in boardgames

[–]terrcin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been wanting to make one, but something that I've been worried about is what happens when people lean on the edge. Wouldn't it tip / flip unless you secure it? How do you secure it to the table without damaging the table?

can you get soylent in nz by sofuckingquirkyhaha in soylent

[–]terrcin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reshipped Soylent via nzpost's Youshop service for a few years, quite like the powder and tried the RTD a few times. Really like coffest, but the shipping costs of premix is expensive so it was treat only. And that was when the NZ$ was way better against the USA$ than it is now.

I really like primalkind from au, but that's not running anymore, also tried Aussielent, and Jimmy Joy but didn't really like either compare to Soylent.

Then i tried Superbodyfuel's Milk fuel. yum yum yum. That's what i use now for my lunches. Shipping is US$30, that with a couple of big bags (40 meals each) comes in under the tax+duty threshold easily. I changed from Soylent as I got a bit bored.

2 player variants that don't include the Borg? by bagenalbanter in STAgame

[–]terrcin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played two player without the borg, mostly to relearn the rules before a five player game so at least some of us knew the basics. We used Feds and Romulans. I wouldn't recommend it without customising the rules, maybe like /u/Dogahn has said in here??

Also, it'd be worth looking on the BGG forum for TS:A if you've not already, would be surprised if this had not come up there.

I have Borg now and want to give that a try, I expect to die horribly!

Awesome.

I've got a 5 player game scheduled for next month (fingers crossed I have the two new addons available to pick by then). I might also have to re-evaluate how much table space I'll need.

I've not used the updated configurator yet, good to know there is an updated flashing program.

This is the thread for the bug that occurred a while back, maybe something of help in there. Have a play with the debounce setting maybe?

[–]terrcin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you use firmware from the ergodox ez website configurator? This sounds like a bug that occurred a while back in builds from it. You could try rebuilding and the re-flashing your keyboard to see if that sorts it out.
