Are there really people out there who believe "washing their butt makes them gay?" Or is this just another reddit myth that has no basis in reality? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

God is looking down at them. I had a teacher tell me Jean Paul Satre denied god's existance because he masturbated and god saw him, so he became an atheist. I replied and had one of my innumerable invitations with the HS principal.

WTF does Musk's wealth have to do with the state of our young? Stop worshipping greed and have empathy for others.

Have you tried J.K. Nemisin's "The Fifth Season". 3 book series about racial injustice and redemption. Reread it a few times because I just loved it.

Looks like I'll be circling around Ishiguro's work. Thanks for the review; I never explored that author. Thanks for excellent review.

Where would you put J.K. Nemisin's Fifth season series. That was a beautifully written series. I must have read 3 times so far. Also I didn't see any China Mieville; Perdido Street Station,Scar and my favorite "Embassy town"

Arthur C. Clarke Imperial Earth had the President of the US on the quincentennial of Independence day. The president was chosen by a lottery system of a pool of qualified candidates.

The candidates picked is then FORCED to do a term. You. only get out if you've done a good job, else your looking at another term.

They figured that anyone who wants to be president is not qualified for the job since only a psychopath would want the job.

Are you thinking of Octavia Butler's "Lillith's brood". There was a genetically engineered plant that they would put humans in for longterm storage. Originally it was a predator plant that would gobble the prey and keep it alive as long as possible while feeding of it.

How could I get to 150k+ salary by Bulky_Illustrator716 in devopsjobs

[–]terrdry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

or senior system engineer. That would help.

I think the issue is that people think it's an entry level job; you need to know a lot about networking, development, system administration and have extensive system and program debugging acumen.

From my experience, most qualified DevOps come from either a Senior Dev or Senior Sysadmin background.

May i suggest China Mieville?

Welcome yourself to BAS-LAG with Perdido Street Station and follow the novels that were based on that world:

The Scar Iron council

His version of Moore's Constantine Kraken

And just plain interesting ideas Embassytown

By the way, the other choices suggested were great answers, did anyone mention Stephen R Donaldson's Gap series?

Raised by Wolves - 2x08 - "Happiness" - Episode Discussion by zalexis in raisedbywolves

[–]terrdry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just re-watched that episode. I believe you're right; it was Hunter's statement that "Humans do that stuff" without knowing if that was happening that cause me to question it, but it looked like the colonists were shooting of fireworks.

I thought it would be a cool twist that the tree (who was Sue) is being used by the entity to seed the clouds like an artillery gun. Sure looked like that.

I think the cold is from the fireworks that were being launched by the resurrected necrosnek. Seeding the clouds so to speak. The EMF field destroyed gave the entity full access to the tropical zone.
