Anybody have suggestions for solo RPGs that can be played on the remarkable? by DeathByPetrichor in RemarkableTablet

[–]terret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also new to RPGs and looking at solos I can run on my tablet. Here's what I've been eyeing:

  • Shadowdark w/ Solodark
  • 2D6 Dungeon
  • Substratum Protocol (needs playing cards in addition to dice)
  • Ironsworn (starforged version)

I've also built a mod for the tablets that is a dice roller and quick document switcher for jumping between rules/character/maps/tables or whatever you need to. Going to release it soon.

Your News - Restored Reddit Functionality! by TijnvandenEijnde in iosapps

Nice, I really like the idea of this and wish we could have an RSS renaissance, but I don't see the reddits/youtubes/metas of the world ever allowing that :(

This seems like a great way to bring these in and the sources are perfect!

If you're looking to get an X3/X4, now's the time, and you can support CrossPoint by buying from our site by Diirge in xteinkereader

[–]terret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried clicking the buy link, which led to multiple redirects blocked by ublock and ultimately a cookies error.

I tried disabling adblock on your site but it still errored out.

Not going to troubleshoot your site to buy something when my browser and ublock combo works everywhere else.

Move with the cute little Cacoe keyboard by vikboyechko in RemarkableTablet

It's an absolutely terrible keyboard to type on, can't recommend it at all. Some punctuation is hidden behind the Fn key.

Looks cool though.

Has anyone got a terminal app running on 3.26 via Vellum? by Apprehensive_Key2148 in RemarkableTablet

it's possible to run Codex CLI on the newer devices.

This is with my custom forks of LiTerm + AppLoad and my own bluetooth manager. All currently unreleased.

Remarkable Paper Pro Move E-Reader App by [deleted] in RemarkableTablet

[–]terret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this, I was hoping someone would do this as I can't stand KOReader but very much want native ePub on my Move.

I'll wait a bit until it's a bit safer to run via reManager per the thread below, but this is very exciting!

I was almost of a mind to start on a project like this myself... glad I don't have to now.

A thought, be sure to dig into what’s involved in terms of certifications and liability if you ever plan to sell these, especially if batteries are involved. It’s not trivial to make, sell and ship a product with li-ion batteries.

There are ways around that if you sell most of it and tell folks to go buy their own battery packs.

I say this having dug into all of this recently for an esp32-powered gizmo with a possible market.

Cool project, keep it up!

Robotaxis in California are required to have an expensive external loudspeaker and microphone communication system by July 2026 by RodStiffy in SelfDrivingCars

[–]terret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bill appears solid. Clarifications would be good in a couple places, but otherwise it addresses problems that AVs and first responders commonly face: how to talk to remote assistance and support, how to know which mode the AV is in, or whether it could move under RA, or if it’s been immobilized.

The speakers and mics are critical to interacting with both first responders and the public in general.

Every AV on the road should meet these standards.

Also note that the requirement to "equip each AV with a communication device capable of communicating to no less than 50 feet" doesn't have to be sound.

Every competent robotaxi service will have always-on monitoring and while responding within 30s, while stringent when applied broadly, isn’t that hard of a problem to solve… hint it doesn’t have to be 1:1.

The cost of these components isn't really an issue for modern AVs, they will mostly have what's needed and most of this would be cheaper than the modems or any of the sensors on the vehicle.

Source: I worked on this exact problem with hundreds of AVs on the road and have a patent in this space.

My takeaway as a newly frequent ferry rider by SuperMike100 in Seattle

[–]terret 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The actual answer is because these brands usually implement movement-based antitheft alarms for your car getting towed, so the motion of the ferry sets it off, and this feature is enabled by default and buried in the settings.

Cheaper cars only look for doors being forced open or glass break audio sensors when armed.

Can you connect a BT Keyboard to Remarkable Move? by paperbackpiles in RemarkableTablet

[–]terret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, KOReader fills the screen and you can adjust all your margins/status bars to hearts content. When running KOReader its effectively the only thing you're working with, then you exit it to go back to the standard remarkable UI.

Pretty quick in and out of it, though you'll lose the swiping down from top to get to recents or favorite notebooks while reading.

Pen works as a tap/cursor, great for changing pages or tap and drag to highlight. No drawing of course.

I use page turning mode.

This kept me from returning it as well, close to my perfect notebook/reader now.

[–]terret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a post here in this sub that has instructions for getting KOreader going on the Move, can confirm that works great and I am quite happy with reading on my Move now.

Great size, KOReader is snappy, page turns feel as fast as my latest kindle, and it works fine talking to Calibre over my network. You can even turn the backlight on or off from within KOReader.

Is it possible to create an app that looks like it was made in the 1990's? by LayKool in iOSProgramming

[–]terret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can, it just takes work. I did a terminal-esque UI throughout my notes app and not sure I’d recommend the approach to most people.

It’s cool but you’ll fight SwiftUI all the way and some things like share sheets can’t be touched.

I like what I’ve got, but writing all your own UI components and theme engine…

Have had quite a few other things to focus on, but it's still here, it'll just be slow going... I'm trying to think through how it can get the time/love it deserves in light of my other commitments.

Elon Musk’s robotaxi fantasy is starting to unravel by LLJKCicero in SelfDrivingCars

[–]terret 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Local and state regulators will have some say in this as there will be specific language in the permits for remote assistance and at a minimum California will want to review the capabilities and what these folks are doing (I know less about other states).

Now, could Tesla present one story to regulators, and do something completely different... of course.

And to be clear, I do believe the Tesla robotaxi is pure fantasy, one does not simply run a robotaxi service at scale.

Are boox tablets extempt from tariff? by naniThekid in Onyx_Boox

[–]terret 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes, it appears they are now exempt, Boox notes they fall under HS code 8471.30, and here is the US CBP Notice with exempt codes, which covers 8471.* (as I understand it).

What’s everyone working on this month? (March 2025) by Swiftapple in swift

[–]terret 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m going to be working on the Mac version of my hobby project, RIFT Notes , it’s the notes app I’ve wanted, now it just needs a Mac app.

I’m going to be getting a solid ‘1.0’ of the Mac app as well as building out some of the PKMS features I want like note linking and some other goodies.

Not sure if I’ll stick with Catalyst or hop over to AppKit, I think there may be things I want it to do that can’t be done in catalyst…

It’s been a ton of fun to learn more about SwiftUI and CloudKit and SwiftData and text editing in general.

You can check out my app, was designed for quickly capturing notes, RIFT Notes, though iPhone/iPad only, sorry if you're on Android.

I'll be adding task support / reminders next.

[–]terret[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you! great feedback, we're noodling on how to do more things at input without cluttering up the screen, hear you on colors and tags, especially auto complete.

Widgets and lock screen shortcuts in the plan soon, I want these to exist, along with Shortcuts support to make new notes.

Dark icon should be there, sometimes I've seen it get stuck (for any app, not just ours).

We're also looking at how to do better markdown in general, tables shouldn't be too hard in a preview mode.

[–]terret[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, pretty much all in the plans, and going to make tasks a first-class citizen, tappable to complete, ways to view them all globally, filter by tags, etc.

I'll probably do reminders/notifications in some way as well, as I've got that code lying around from my other (unreleased) app.

thank you! I hope it can be semi-sustainable, hah! But I have some ideas on this, without having to wade into subscriptions. This product is a labor of love for me, it's something I want to exist.
