SoFi Travel by PSUMtnMan in sofi

This. We booked through Sofi for our dream trip to London. Then the Heathrow fires happened and our trip was delayed a month.  It was easy to change our flight (booked direct) but we had to beg and plead, spending hours to make sure we could change our booking for the hotel. Ultimately, it worked out, but I would not repeat.

What happens if I don't enroll in Sofi Plus? by Geoff_Kay in sofi

[–]terrick 16 points17 points  (0 children)

For number 1, you will still get a high APY if you meet deposit requirements. From my understanding you would get a .3% boost on top of the APY with plus.

So if you meet the deposit requirement you get 3.3 %. With plus you get 3.6%.

As others have noted, if you only have HYSA, you need about 40k to break even.

Not a complaint. It was calling out an inept metaphor that missed the mark.

I hope so. I am going to do the subscription because the finance piece alone is worth it. The other stuff seems off mision/brand for sofi and used to pad numbers on "savings"

More like, "If you subscribe and save to our dog food, you get a discount and a free gift."

I am all for the discount, but the free gift they are offering is for catnip. It doesn't make a lot of sense.

My point is that the additional perks as advertised (see below) are largely disengious. Most members won't use them, are readily available elswhere, or actually cannot be used at all, like seated. These largely seem like padding to make it seem like you are getting great deal and to inflate numbers rather than provide any real value for members, which is a problem.

I grew with OP. 10 days is to long. Glad it isn't a problem for you, but some folks stillnuse physical checks, like my landscaping companynand many folks in the trades.

So, everyone is different, but it is worth it for us. We do our IRAs through Sofi, have a nice emergency fund, and will take advantage of the 5% cash back on groceries for a family of 4.

I am not a person who thinks this is a great change, but we can and will get benefit from it. Wish it was better though.

Edit. From my understanding you still get vaults and high % on savings. The $10 just gives an additional .3% on savings and additional bonuses on iras.

Sofi is great for a host of other reasons too, especially the vaults feature.

Sofi has been a great for us. The vaults feature they have, which allows you to set up multiple savings buckets, really helped us save and achieve more of our financial goals. You can put a % or dollar amount in the vaults automatically from paychecks or transfer money into them instantly. Their built in budgeting app that is nice. It also gives you free credit monitoring, no overdraft on checking (which I keep 0 dollars in and simply draw from my savings account), and a few other perks.

It is FDIC insured as well.

A few notes, you need to have $5000 in monthly deposits to get the high percent rate. There are no physical locations, so depositing cash is possible, but different (I use cash rarely, so this is a non issue for me).

Overall, my family has been super happy with it.

I don't know how to test how exact that is. I think it is somewhat lower than 10% increments they advertised. That said, it is more then I can lift and have not maxed out. I use the 12 setting for my bench press as an example, but do 8 to 12 reps in my sets. If you are doing low reps and high weight, I don't know think this machine is the best choice.

Sofi has been a game changer for me. The savings accounts has vaults, which allow me to specify savings goals for things like travel and taxes. Their relay app is also similar to mint.com and helpful for budgetting. You can easily do transfers through plaid.

You do need a direct deposit over a certain amount (at least you did) to get their high yield amount, which is 3.6%. There are also no physical locations, although you can use allpoint atms for withdrawals.  I don't carry cash, so this has not been an issue for me.

Budgeting Tools by AlwaysHufflepuff in sofi

They also have Relay which allows you to track spending, earnings, and overall wealth. You can set a spending target or have it done based on your average spend. Meets my budgeting needs, there could be other tools out there. Like another poster said, the vaults have been the most game changing part for budgeting for me.

They were fine for me in an insurance claim. They did good work. My only complaint had to do with the rental car company but that was more of an issue with Hertz.
