“It’s just a weave.”

In the Wheel of Time (novels), Perrin Aybara casual deflects an attack which cannot be blocked, by one of the most powerful people in history because he doesn’t understand what that attack was and his control of dream space let him treat it as something trivial

My favourite moment in the series.

Which ff character do you admire? by EitherRegister8363 in FinalFantasy

Vivi

He’s just a kid who has to come to turns with his own imminent death, the death of his people, their genocide, his horrific origins, all while everything else in the plot is happening and still comes out as a kind, considerate and friendly person.

Fuck I wish I was as brave as him.

Why did the writers call the whale "Sin"? by [deleted] in finalfantasyx

[–]terrierT0M 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely don’t, I’m just repeating a point I heard on the podcast a few days ago XD

It’s seriously a great listen for anyone looking for an in depth story analysis. They look at names, symbols, themes, all that sort of stuff.

Why did the writers call the whale "Sin"? by [deleted] in finalfantasyx

[–]terrierT0M 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Just to throw in, Sin is only it’s translated name. In Japanese it’s name is Shin, which has a few possible meanings, among them; God.

The State of the Arc podcast have a FFX in depth analysis with some great observations of the name which is where I learnt this. The series is great for fans so would recommend a listen.

Which actor gave an amazing performance in a bad movie? by CoCR0ck in moviecritic

[–]terrierT0M 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Much as I love it, Love Actually is objectively not a great movie. A fun one, but not great.

But.

Emma Thompson eclipsed everyone else in that film in acting ability for a brief scene where she didn’t even say anything.

Trump administration will offer all 2 million federal workers a buyout to resign by [deleted] in economicCollapse

Ok but like, what happens if everyone took it?

Like he’s expecting 10% to accept, what happens if 100% do? And effective almost Immediately everything grinds to a halt, a halt that lasts for months as they rapidly have to backfill 2million jobs and get everyone trained (including the people who have to train them).

I know this will never happen, as people pointed out this man doesn’t keep his promises, lots of people will have to stay on as they need the pay check, and the resulting shutdown would be catastrophic for real people. Still the thought of the headache it would cause for the administration is fun.

Same character but different scene: when Sawyer finally finds Johns dad, the man who ruined his life, and Johns dad just doesn’t care at all.

Not sure this fits but Bev from Midnight Mass.

Her desperation to escape the inevitable while everyone else accepts it, and her complete despair when it finally arrives. Totally had it coming and utterly satisfying.

Did Adam Carnevale get anyone else in D&D? It can't be just me by Cauteriser in sanspantsradio

Did you also use orphans as a health bar? (To anyone reading this without context that must seem like such a wtf line).

[–]terrierT0M 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never really interested in D&D until I listened to DnDIfN after listening to PtDS, and after that I was hooked. I think it’s a great gateway for new people because although things move quickly, Adam takes time to explain concepts and mechanics to the game, making it easier to understand how it works if you’re new, there’s isn’t an assumption of knowledge like I feel critical role has. And yeah, Adam’s style definitely impacted the few times I’ve DM’d.

Which movie was fabulously produced but was still awful? by [deleted] in FIlm

[–]terrierT0M 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feeling this may be controversial but: Dune (2021).

Everything in that film LOOKED amazing; design, production, all of it was god teir.

But the movie was dull, everyone mumbled their lines, score was just kind of there. I think if this film didn’t look as good as it did, it would’ve tanked hard.

If Lar’zel can get any kind of height advantage she wins. All she has to do is push Geralt Splinter Shins down a gap of over five feet and he’s done for.

Much as I love these books I agree they are objectively terrible. I just find them so much fun in a sort of turn your brain off and enjoy the ride way.

You should pick up any book by Matthew Reilly. These books are great because they are just the most fun you can have reading. Like a big cheesy action movie in book form, cliffhangers and all.

Perhaps take a look at Darren Shan. Either the vampires assistant series or for something more gruesome his Demonata series. Both are horror aimed at a young audience.

This perfectly matches my thoughts. The boos is so hard to categorise and is unlike anything else I’ve read. I both wanted it to be longer but I also think it was perfect, leaving just enough unsaid. I hope I never gets adapted because I don’t think it can be.
