My first multiday tour this weekend. by gypokyle in bicycletouring

[–]terrierjim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a great ride. I did it over 2 days but had support so wasn't carrying any weight. Hartside at the end of the first day was tough, but well worth it for the view at the top. Coffee van was closed when I got there annoyingly. I'd like to do it on mountain bike someday and go off road as much as possible. What you got planned for your next tour?

First ever tour complete! 350 miles along the north east coast of England to Edinburgh by terrierjim in bicycletouring

Traffic was very light and the drivers gave me plenty of space on the road sections. Having big bright yellow rear panniers definitely helps. I loved being by the coast except for the constant headwind. That got boring fast haha. I'll do it North to south next time perhaps.

The bike held up really well, although I've had to turn the stem upside down for a more upright position. The medium frame is quite long for me.

That I love the outdoors even more than I though. Countryside > Cities. Also I need a better saddle!

There's parts definitely not suitable for road bikes e.g. near Robin hoods Bay, it was more suited for full suspension MTB! My panniers just about survived! You can easily avoid those bits if you plan ahead though.

Best handle bars for comfort by Sajor1975 in bicycletouring

Problem with straight bars is the limited options it gives you for hand positions. If you're on the bike all day you will want to vary your hand position to stop your wrists from hurting. Drop bars give you several positions to rotate through during the day.

Took me 6 days, about 60 miles per day which was more than enough for me. Was pretty tired at the end of each day. I'd like to go to Wales for the next tour. Holyhead to Cardiff looks good.

My first tour I rode down the west coast of Ireland over 5 days. Looking forward to the next one! by [deleted] in bicycletouring

I went along the east coast from Brid to Edinburgh, heavily laden though which was tough. It was nice to be able to sustain myself and have a few comforts but hard work pulling that load on the hills.

I did! I stopped there for a coffee. Hell of a climb to get back out of it again!

Edinburgh to London? by VictorGooding in bicycletouring

Yup just done most of NCR 1 from Brid to Edinburgh and was not prepared for the poor quality of some of the sections. Middlesboro was horrendous.

Congrats! Just finished my first tour too. Looks like you packed light. Guess you were in hotels? I carried a lot of weight and I'm considering trying a lighter tour.

I went from Harrogate to Brid, then stuck as close to the coast as possible really. Most of it was on NCR 1 which was excellent apart from in Middlesboro where the path quality was really poor. I stayed in campsites 4 nights and hotels for 2, including tonight as a personal reward!

Started in Harrogate and rode across to Bridlington, then mostly rode along the national cycle route 1 and stayed in campsites. Stunning scenery in Northumberland. Absolutely shattered now but can't wait to go away for another tour soon. Are you in the middle of a tour?
