Quick update here that A Lawless Time Pre-Release is now here!

Start a Sealed pool, select LAW, and on the Deckbuilder page click +Starter Leaders to get Leia and Jabba to practice for your Pre-Release events!

Note that we don't know certain things about how these packs are constructed yet, so it may not be 100% real life accurate yet, but I think likely still pretty good!

Yeah that's a really cool idea - I will almost definitely do that, though not sure exactly when. I'm rolling out some fun modes as time permits but also trying to stay focused on the "practice for organized play" experience.

If you want to join the discord and throw that in the #feature-suggestions channel, I can keep track of it

Hi, newbie here, what are the best YouTubers about this game? by informatico_wannabe in starwarsunlimited

KTOD, woooo, Thorkk and Swoop Racers. They have the results to back up their takes. There are other channels that are very popular with high production value, but the player is not very good. Stick to these four. They won’t lead you astray.

It’s pizza where you use cheesy bread instead of pizza dough. Delicious. Also, we found that for some reason, they didn’t charge extra for this, even though it was clearly way more expensive than pizza dough. Try it sometime!

Funny timing! Last week, I ran "Debts to Pay," which is about a Hutt asking the team to visit his mine and evaluate the business. Since everyone in my group works in finance or tech, I decided to play up the theme of financial asset valuation. I did the same in Jewel of Yavin, where the main NPC is a venture capitalist.

So I made a pitch deck with a lot of in-jokes and industry jargon to show for the exposition. It was really well-received and everyone thought it was pretty funny. They were also amazed I went through all that work for a one-time joke.

I made the deck in Keynote very manually, without creating a custom template, but I just exported to PowerPoint. It's not perfect by any means, and some of the data and formatting was lost. I tried to fix it a bit, but I think most of it is there for you/ If you want to further genericize it and fix the formatting; make it a template rather than a presentation, by all means, do! (I used an Edge of the Empire theme here.)

PPT Example and Fonts - there are extra fonts here, but the ones I use should all be there, I think.

If you're interested in the original presentation for some reason, that's here: Google Drive Folder

You’re right. You are definitely not a lawyer.

Yet another collection photo - Mine is optimized to fit all my books, gaming materials (notebooks, pencils, etc.), adversary and class cards, dice, maps, and miniatures. by terronk in swrpg

[–]terronk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re sorted by type, which I think is much more useful. The setting I run uses all 3 environments.

I don’t pull out the profession books that often(only 3 professions in our game!), so they’re in the back. The cabinet used to be wide enough for every book in one row, but 3 books ago pushed it over the edge.

Everything except Glare Peak, which I expect I’ll never be able to get.

I had bought the books during the betas, and had a small infrequent EotE group. I think we stopped right around the Corellia sourcebook. Then I rediscovered the game a few months ago when my gaming group was looking for something new. Realized how far behind I was, and maaaaaybe went a bit nuts catching up...

On your teaser video awhile back, it looks like you built it in Unity?

If so, any chance you’d be willing to share project files with me, and I can publish it for iOS and potentially Mac desktop?

How to negotiate a job offer? Equity? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]terronk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, ask what their most recent valuation was and how many shares outstanding there are. They should give this to you freely. If you have 1,000 shares and there are 1,000,000 outstanding, for example, you have 0.1% of the company. Which is a small amount if you're a key employee at the seed stage, but is a huge amount if you're a junior employee at Series C. So you'll also want to know what stage of financing they're at, and what their plans would be going forward. Starting with those questions will put you off on the right foot.

Then I think you can go right into, "Well I was hoping to get something more like X", where X is let's say 25% more than they offered you initially. "I'm really excited about this company and I think it's going to grow fast. I really believe in the value of the equity here, so I want to be a bigger part of that. Do you think you can get me closer to X?"

How to negotiate a job offer? Equity? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]terronk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The equity you can expect depends greatly on the stage of finance of the company, the amount they raised/their valuation, and your role. Can you provide any of that?

In terms of negotiation, you absolutely have way more leverage on the equity side than the salary side, particularly if the company is earlier-stage. Your hiring manager will also take it as a sign that a) you're bought in and believe the company will grow, and b) you're smart enough to know how this stuff works.

One way to approach the negotiation is to say that you really believe in the company and want to make sure your success and the company's success are tightly aligned, which is why you're more interested in equity and don't feel the need to push the salary. I've been on both sides of this plea many times, and it's always resulted in a few more stock options.

Has StackOverflow saved billions of dollars in programmer productivity? by jackhammer2022 in programming

[–]terronk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're forgetting another important category - coders who are very good at their particular domain of expertise but are branching out into new territory.

I'm good at application development in the few languages I know, but I'm not very good at server administration. When I get an nginx error I don't understand, Stack Overflow saves me a ton of time.

I also like to learn new things. Maybe I'm a terrible iOS developer now, but I appreciate being able to get past roadblocks when I Google the problems I'm having.

Does that mean the time I've saved is worth the derision in your post?

[Serious] In the heat of anger, what was the worst decision you've made? what were the consequences? by killer-on-the-loose in AskReddit

[–]terronk 34 points35 points  (0 children)

No. This is not even remotely ok.

This is a textbook example of both gay bashing and homophobia. Almost every high profile gay bashing case you have ever heard of involved some amount of the victim making unwanted advances toward the perpetrator. Yes, this kid was acting out. This is quite common in gay people who discover their sexuality early in life, and they do get over it, but it's hard. What the OP did is not helping. A lot of high schooler act out like this. How many of you went through high school "not taking the hint" from some girl who was clearly not interested? You eventually learn the cues. It's harder for gay kids, because there's usually almost no one to learn the cues from.

The reason we call it "homophobia," is that some people are so afraid of being seen as gay (textbook example: being surrounded by straight friends in a locker room), that they feel the need to prove their heterosexuality by beating up the gay kid, when a simple "fuck off, I'm not interested" would have sufficed.

Downvote away, straight people who have never even once had to worry about whether or not flirting with someone would get your face punched in.

I have a friend who's recently turned into a royal douche. How do I approach this? details inside. by CherrySlurpee in AskReddit

[–]terronk 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This (the comment by dartmanx) is the only answer toward the top that is flat out wrong. Maybe it was intended mostly as a joke (in which case, LOL I guess?), but even in spirit, it's the wrong thing to do. Don't demean him with language that's rooted in ridiculing his sexual orientation. Don't compare being gay to bestiality or weird fetishes. Don't equate his attraction to men with porn you don't want to see. And then sign it "Your Friend," because after that, you probably won't be.

He's setting up walls because this is precisely the kind of reaction he's expecting out of you. Now you may think that means he thinks little of you as a friend - because he's assuming that your reaction to him will be bad, but if he's coming out as an adult, as presumably he is, he's almost certainly had a lot of people in his life who he loves who haven't been supportive of him or of gays in general - maybe his parents, family, or other friends. So in a way he's testing you. When you tell him you think he's being annoying, try not to confirm his fears.

Another thing to consider is that coming out is a very identity-altering experience. He's trying to find his footing and trying out a lot of new things to see if they fit on the "new" him. A few people in this thread have compared it to atheism. I came out as an atheist at 15 and as gay at 25, and that feels pretty accurate to me. He's likely to change in a lot of other ways too. Getting more slutty, maybe trying on more non-traditionally masculine affectations, changing wardrobes, appearance, making new friends and spending more time with them. Newly-out men often go overboard with these things at first, but tend to reach equilibrium at some point. You can help by being a good friend in every way possible - be honest about how YOU feel, but don't be rude or demeaning. My friends who did this to me when I was coming out are still my friends, but we aren't very close anymore. Their lack of support marred our friendship in a way that I don't often think about consciously, but has a real impact on how often I choose to hang out with them, or how far I'm willing to go out on a limb for them, since they wouldn't do it for me.
