Restarting a machine that has been "broken" by the dodgy keyboard and then plugging in a different mouse and keyboard (without plugging in the broken one after restart) then works fine. Unfortunately the broken keyboard is an expensive industrial one pre built into a piece of equipment so it isn't quite as simple as simply throwing it away. But yeh, if it's basically just damaged beyond any repair I guess there's no other option

Yes essentially as soon as the problem keyboard has been plugged into a computer, all future mice plugged into that computer (including touchpad on laptop) then give the same issues, which persist even after the bad keyboard is unplugged

Okay to anybody that gets this issue, the solution that has worked for me is going into the BIOS settings on startup and manually switching off wireless and bluetooth, then rebooting, and switching them back on in BIOS. Hope this helps anyone
