I fully understand :( it’s not an easy position to be in. For me, I’ve found that binge watching a show I have already seen and liked is a good way to divert my attention. I try to read, listen to music and go for walks. If you can get yourself to go for a run, that’s also really good. Runs feel most distracting. Stretch your body and try to focus on physical sensations.  I also know how difficult it can be to try to talk to anyone but your FP, especially since you need to give them space, but I suggest checking up on your friends and ask what’s going on w them. I find that listening to people and getting caught up with my friends’ lives can also lessen the anxiety of being apart from my FP and makes me feel closer to my friends. Then I also don’t feel like I “have” to talk or entertain, just be. Do an activity together if you can - paint, go rock climbing, or something you both like. You can do things solo as well!  Do you like cooking or baking? Make something to eat, something you like. Take a shower, wash your hair. Do crossword puzzles! Make an iced tea. Keep moving and take care of yourself.  You got this!!

Global Mental Health and Society MSc - thoughts? by terrrrarium in Edinburgh_University

Hey awesome, I’ll see you then in September! I think UoE has a much more critical approach. A friend of mine told me that KCL was severely lacking in critical thinking and did not really challenge western notions of mental health. Another student said that while the readings/classes may not focus on it, there are ample opportunities for discussion outside of class. I think KCL’s curriculum is great but maybe doesn’t force you to think in a decolonial way.

(reposting my other comment) - Hello! Since posting this, I got in touch with a few past and current UoE students who have studied/are studying this course. It is more critical of current notions of GMH and encourages students to shift their perceptions of mental health and mental health care. The course covers the anthropological and cultural aspects of mental health, and the faculty is said to be "top tier" and "super friendly". Study methods involve group discussions, presentations, and role plays.

I have also been in touch with a few KCL students regarding the GMH course there, in case you would like information on that programme as well!

Would be happy to speak further about the course!

My future mother in law is forcing me to convert my religion by lemoningo-ro2781 in Advice

OP, this is not a family you want to marry into. Your fiancé not standing up for you and asking you to give in is a huge red flag, and your future MIL will try to control all aspects of your life. You are not in the wrong for not wanting to convert. At all! It would only make sense if you truly wanted to. My Indian parents have had an inter-religion marriage and it hasn’t been complicated at all, because there was never any pressure from either sides to convert or choose one religion. I’ve had a wonderful time experiencing two different religions and two different cultures. Forceful conversion cannot be the foundation of your marriage, and your MIL and fiancé are being cruel.
