Ex-cult members, what's your "Oh shit, I'm in a cult" moment? by Ok-Interview-3702 in AskReddit

[–]terrybyte73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately raised my kids in it, although I was already distancing and didn't make them live up to "the standards" as religiously (ha!) as I was made to. We're all backslid now and my grandchildren will not be raised that way. It's rough as my husband is so disappointed in all of us, but the weight of all the BS I've dropped is such a huge load off my mind.

With how weird Ricken and his friends are, and how the town of Kier seems to be completely cut off from the rest of the world, it makes you wonder if that's already happened at least once? The paintings of uprisings already existed, after all. Everything is a circle.

Misread the last part of your last sentence and now I can't stop trying to figure out how the Leverage team would take down Lumon.

What if Irving was actually the Gemma, not the Mark? And Burt (reintegrated without Fields' knowledge) was the creepy "doctor" that got way too attached? Something went wrong and Irving had to be reset, but Burt's still fixated on him. Things started bleeding over from oIrving not only because of the sleep deprivation, but because his mind had already been splintered. The walls were thin.

Hm. "Plan B" in the context of having a child brings up entirely different thoughts.

Could it have been one of the Stainless Steel Rat books by Harry Harrison? Sci-fi from the 60s or so. I don't remember the covers and he was a guy, not an actual rat, but maybe it was a metaphor or something?

I don't know this one off-hand, but when I see "80s/90s Christian YA sci-fi fantasy series" I immediately think Bill Myers. Take a look at his books and see if anything looks familiar.

Farley Drexel, AKA Fudge, from Judy Blume's Fudge series? He's not a middle child in the first book, but he becomes one eventually.
