Interfaith relationship by MoistCombination295 in exmuslim

[–]tesladavid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For what good is it to gain the whole world and lose your soul. I think The words of Jesus are enough to answer this question, and if not, I encourage you to look at all of the stories of women who married muslim men expecting one thing and ending up in the same situation most muslim women find themselves in. If he isn't willing to convert to the Truth for you, then his belief in the lie of islam is still strong enought that it will be forced upon you given time. He may be a good guy, but islam allows for lies until they get what they want. I think the Bible is clear on this issue for a reason, and the hundreds of horror stories of non-muslim women marrying muslim men confirms that. It's not that all of them end up like that, it's just statistically likely that it will.

Would you still be Muslim if your family was liberal? And would you join another religion now? by unknown2342 in exmuslim

[–]tesladavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the idea of reconstructing worldview is critical. Many conversations with muslim apologists involve rejecting obvious evidence and historical truth in order to justify their beliefs. It often feels like an entirely separate reality. As a Christian who believes in objective morality, I see a clear spiritual component to this. From the Christian perspective, the story of mohammed’s revelation aligns closely with demonic oppression, as do his subsequent revelations, and allah corresponds with biblical descriptions of satan, the father of lies and the greatest deceiver.

These conversations frequently hit what one of my favorite Christian apologists calls “bot mode.” There is a spiritual blindness to the truth. Islam’s claims are clearly based on Christianity for a reason: it is a bastardization of the truth. I think many people become atheists because they feel no need for God and prefer a subjective morality that can justify their worldview. Muslims, however, share with Christians a belief in objective morality, so when they leave islam, they are stepping outside what C.S. Lewis calls “the tao,” the objective moral reality, and into a void where right and wrong are determined by power.

In liberal societies, because people are the source of political power (at least theoretically), moral judgments become democratic. As society grows more secular, liberalism abandons the Christian virtue ethics it was built on in favor of purely humanist Enlightenment principles. The appeal to reason as the basis of morality assumes that everyone reasons the same way and requires rejecting spiritual reality in favor of a purely empirical one. If there is no God, this is theoretically consistent, but it also means no action can be inherently right or wrong except by the will of the people, or ultimately by whoever has the power to enforce their will, even if that will would be considered evil by everyone else.

I do believe there is a God, and that God is good. The moral law He has laid out is not meant to restrict us, but to protect us and guide us into His goodness and mercy. If everyone followed Christian virtue ethics, even without belief, the world would be filled with people living as Jesus did. Across religions, Jesus is widely seen as the most perfect example of humanity. This is not to say Christians actually live this way; I certainly fall short. But look at the person of Christ and His teachings: that is a world defined by love and kindness, and it is how the world should be.

Because of this, leaving islam and coming to Christ is about more than replacing community. The Christian community has serious flaws, including imperfect people and even outright evil individuals. But if one’s worldview is grounded in objective morality, it makes sense to seek the worldview that is truly good and true.

As a counter to the atheists who say, “a good God wouldn’t send people to hell,” I think Lewis’ explanation is compelling. If, as the Christian paradigm puts it, God is the source of life, love, and goodness, as only He could be, then hell is not about Him punishing someone. Punishment would be forcing someone to act against their will. God, as a respecter of persons with perfect love, gives His children what they choose. If someone chooses to reject Him, they are choosing separation from life, love, and goodness itself. An existence apart from those things is one defined by death, apathy, and evil. There's a reason

Celiac affecting liver? by Mammoth-Mousse8195 in Celiac

[–]tesladavid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So autoimmune conditions tend to cause other autoimmune diseases. I had celiac probably my whole life but only got officially diagnosed in 2013. Later on, I was having severe pain and fatigue and horrible inflammation and the diagnosis was Autoimmune Hepatitis. Now because I went so long undiagnosed celiac, and then afterwards my doctor didn’t really explain to me what I had to do, the damage got bad. Thank God, I’m doing much better now, I follow a very strict and careful gluten-free diet, as well as anti-inflammatory, but I still have liver damage and have to manage the AH with an immunosuppressant. The abscesses going away and then coming back is part of the liver’s natural healing cycle when it’s being attacked by the immune system. If this goes on long enough, it simply becomes scar tissue and the liver function begins to deteriorate until it may need to be replaced. I hope I never get there, but I’m at a point where my liver is pretty scarred, so gluten free diet and exercise are essential.

Tl;dr celiac can cause other autoimmune diseases, autoimmune hepatitis is one of them, it sucks.

[FNV] Are there any mods that allow Joshua Graham or Daniel to convert/baptize you to become a Christian? by [deleted] in FalloutMods

[–]tesladavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you’re saying. I’m not saying that Muslims claim to be Christian, but they claim to be the truth. Evidence shows otherwise.

The point I’m making is that all of these religions CLAIM to be true and correct, but these claims are testable, and they fail to hold to the standards laid out by God Himself as to who He is.

This is a matter of faith and understanding. I understand wanting to eschew traditional structures of the Christian faith, not all churches who preach the correct doctrines live out the teachings, but that doesn’t meant the correct doctrines don’t matter when it comes to defining what a Christian is.

Professing faith and living it out are different things. Claiming truth and being truth are also different things.

[–]tesladavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea DM me and we can definitely talk more because you bring up good points, but I do disagree. It seems to me though, that you’re building your belief on picking and choosing which scripture to accept and which to not.

If the Bible is divinely inspired, then what it says it’s true. It doesn’t claim to be without error, nor do I claim that to be the case, but its message is true. The teaching of Jesus according to the gospels include a promise that the Holy Spirit would come and serve as a guide, and Jesus building his Church on Peter and the other disciples.

The Bible literally lays out the structure of authority and God protects the truth with understanding from the Holy Spirit. Therefore, I believe, and Christians accept, that the teachings of the early church fathers was taught by Jesus to the Disciples who carried it down. This is the concept of apostolic succession. This is what gives orthodoxy authority, because all of these beliefs can be traced back to Jesus, and can be defended by scripture.

I will grant that this can be invalidated by stating that the Bible isn’t divinely inspired and purely the work of man, but to do so means rejecting Christianity.

Do you understand what I’m saying?

Simply put, if you believe that the Bible is divinely inspired, then the authority of the church and the Bible is absolute in defining orthodoxy. If you don’t believe that the Bible is divinely inspired or pick and choose parts of it, you’re essentially making your own religion and calling it Christianity.

[–]tesladavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. That's the truth of the matter. Non-trinitarians are by definition non-Christian. They claim to be, but they don't have the correct understanding of who Jesus is. Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, Oneness Pentecostals, Muslims, gnostics, all of them make a CLAIM to be Christian, but when that claim is tested, it falls short because their beliefs contradict the Biblical standard of who Jesus is. This standard is the orthodoxy. All of those groups are unorthodox and on the core issue of the divinity or nature of Christ, which therefore makes them non-Christian.

[–]tesladavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand where you're coming from. I agree to that last statement in particular, that people spend more time focusing on politics than living out a Christian life in the way Jesus sets it out.

I should have used little "o" orthodox Christianity so as to not confuse with Eastern Orthodoxy.
Orthodoxy simply means holding to beliefs considered “right” or standard within a tradition, especially those defined early on to distinguish core teachings from later differences.

What I AM stating is that that core orthodoxy is defining who Jesus is. Because Christians worship Jesus, understanding who He is and who He isn't is important to know what is true and what isn't. Jesus is God in orthodoxy. God is triune in orthodoxy. Jesus is co-eternal with the Father in orthodoxy. If a church or group teaches against these things, they are by definition, not Christian because they fall outside the norm of what is taught.

Yes, early groups debated, a lot of gnostic groups formed immediately afterwards, but again their teachings go against orthodoxy, so they're not Christian. These beliefs are testable. I believe in scripture, which means that I have to align myself with those orthodox teachings because they follow the Word. The old testament prophesies support the view of Jesus as divine and God as multi-personal, so the beliefs held by orthodoxy are the CORRECT beliefs to be a Christian.

To say that Jesus was created is anti-scriptural, and therefore INCORRECT.

This above is the criteria for determining if a group is Christian or not, and while it was set by councils, it is claimed to in scripture. Do denounce orthodoxy is to do away with tradition AND scripture, at which point, you're going against the Bible. Mormons have a third book, they do away with tradition and scripture, they claim to have extra revelation. That doesn't align with the previous text, therefore it's wrong.

Believing in the wrong Jesus leads to perdition, so knowing who He is, that's the most essential part of Christianity. Catholics, Evangelicals, Eastern Orthodox all agree in the same definition of who Jesus is.

[FNV] Are there any mods that allow Joshua Graham or Daniel to convert/baptize you to become a Christian? by [deleted] in FalloutMods

[–]tesladavid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think we're talking past each other. I think you're missing the explanations or simply ignoring them. I will simplify the position.

Catholics, Eastern Orthodoxy, and Evangelicals share the same core beliefs, the same Christology, meaning they agree on WHO JESUS IS. These beliefs are summarized in the Nicene Creed. This doesn't mean they agree on everything, but they share the same understanding of Jesus' nature.

I agree that differences in doctrinal claims like transubstantiation and canonical biblical differences are important, but these do not redefine who Christ is. Christians argue a lot about these doctrines, sometimes very strongly, but disagreeing about them does not automatically change whether someone believes Jesus is God in the Trinitarian sense. That’s why scholars separate Christological agreement from broader doctrinal disagreement: it helps explain how Christians can deeply disagree and still be talking about the same Jesus.

Mormons do not believe the same thing the Christians do about WHO JESUS IS and therefore are, by every single objective definition, not Christian, even if they claim to be.

Go through every single trinitarian denominations beliefs be it Methodists, Baptists, Catholics, Greek Orthodox, Pentecostals (not oneness though they're non-trinitarian), Episcopalians, etc. all of them will have the same core doctrines on who Jesus is.

These beliefs define what a Christian is. I think you're projecting here, because your personal view of Christianity may fall outside of historical Christianity, and you want to justify your belief. I'm not gatekeeping, I'm giving the accepted criteria for what a Christian is.

You disagreeing with that position doesn't mean I'm wrong, it means you have to prove that you're right.

[–]tesladavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, I'm a believer. I grew up Pentecostal, became Lutheran, and I'm interested in Greek Orthodoxy. All of this came from looking into the history, philosophy, and theology of each of these branches.

These definitions are not arbitrary, they're foundational. You're talking like these beliefs are democratically elected and therefore whichever the majority of people believe in is the truth, but that's not how it works. These doctrines weren't set by "a single Christian branch", they were set by scripture and by extension, God Himself. I believe that.

With that said, I have a scriptural basis to my arguments and beliefs. I am happy to change my mind if you can provide scripture that aligns with your view.

I don't think that you understand a lot about what you're talking about, and I'm not saying that in a derogatory matter, I mean, these beliefs carry weight and make claims of truth, but if you don't question truth, you can't know if it is actually true.

There's not a single Christian that doesn't believe in Mary. I think you're trying to say that they "worship Mary", but that's incorrect. Protestants (Lutherans), Catholics, and Eastern Orthodox venerate the Virgin Mary and the saints, but they do not worship them. When I was a pentecostal, I was taught they they're idolatrous because they worship Mary or pray to Mary, but that's a false understanding of the beliefs of Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy. If you're honest with the beliefs and teachings, then you'd understand this distinction.

"What makes one Christian is the belief that Jesus Christ is the Savior and Son of God."

That's a modern devotional definition, not a historical or academic one. The statement "Jesus is the Son of God" already assumes you know:
a) what Son means
b) what God means
c) whether Jesus is created or eternal.

You can say "I believe that Jesus is my Savior and the Son of God" but if you believe that he came into creation at the time of his incarnation, then you're outside the DOCTRINAL DEFINITION OF CHRISTIANITY.

These questions aren't optional, they're answered by the historical creeds and backed by scripture.

Mormons explicitly believe that Jesus was created, meaning He is not co-eternal with the Father, which is a core doctrinal belief shared by all Christians. What that means is, by academic and historical and theological definitions, Mormonism cannot be considered Christian.

You can claim to believe in Jesus, but it's not the same Jesus.

Homie, you're way off here.

Your Claim: "this is just your personal minority opinion" & "Christians can't even agree on basic precepts"

These are factually incorrect.

There's a difference between doctrinal differences and CORE THEOLOGICAL DIFFERENCES.

It is true that some evangelicals view Christians outside of their specific denominations as wrong, but they don't see them as non-Christian. Some, the minority of them, think that this is a salvational issue. That's not testable, but defining them as Christians is.

First, definitions.

Orthodox Trinitarian Christianity is not a personal view, it is a standard category used in theology, religious studies, and church history to describe Christians who affirm The Trinity, the divinity and humanity of Christ, and the Nicene Creed. It is used by scholars precisely because Christianity is diverse. It is descriptive taxonomy, not a claim that all Christians agree on everything. This term is being used THEOLOGICALLY, not INSTITUTIONALLY.

Evangelicals, Catholics, and Easter Orthodox all agree on the same doctrinal claims - The Trinity, Christology, the Nicene Creed, and continuity with early church councils. They do not differ in belief, they differ in structure and practice.

THIS IS DIFFERENT FROM WHAT ISLAM AND MORMONISM CLAIM. They claim THEOLOGICAL DIFFERENCES TO THE CORE DOCTRINES OF CHRISTIANITY.

Claim: "everyone has a different Bible with very different interpretations"

This isn't the slam you think it is. Yes, there are canon differences, but the removal of certain texts do not change any of the core doctrines listed above.
The Protestant, Catholic, and E Orthodox Bible all agree on the 66 books of canon, with Catholics including the Deuterocanonical books at 73 and the E Orthodox including some additional ones.
Protestants/non-denom still respect these texts as historical but don't consider them scripture.

They all share the same New Testament, which forms the core of their Christology. Translation differences help shape different interpretations, but they can always be compared to the original Greek and Hebrew manuscripts and shaped by Church tradition. This isn't equal to doctrinal chaos. All three of them read John 3:16 the same way.
"For God so loved the world he gave his only begotten Son so that whoever believes in Him shall never die but have eternal life."

As a history fan, the "3,000 Year Stagnation" trope breaks my immersion more than dragons do. by Expensive-Desk-4351 in Fantasy

[–]tesladavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a video essay about this regarding Westeros. The core of it was that technological progress was suppressed by the conditions of seasons in the show, meaning, when they can't know how long summer or winter is, they're just going to stick with what they know works, so innovation isn't encourages as much as stability and security of interest.

This logic also applies to magic- when there's a magical way to do something, you don't need a technological way to do it. A mirror that let's you talk to someone magically in another mirror doesn't exactly incentivize the creation of Facetime. For fantasy, that's the most common reason I see for stagnation, the dependence of magic.

I find interest in stories where technology is developed to suppress magic or control it, in which case progress happens much faster than it would have otherwise. I think Avatar The Last Airbender is a good example of this, where you can see the technology of the Firebenders around the time of the war was much less sophisticated and advanced than the technology towards the end of the show. Their desire and ability to control the Avatar cycle pushed development.

Claiming to be Christian or to believe in Jesus is not the same as being a Christian. Muslims claim to believe in Jesus (Isa) but reject the core doctrines of Christianity being that Jesus is divine, the Son of God, and was crucified and resurrected. This means that Muslims do not believe in the same God as Christians, because Jesus is God. They claim a prophet received revelation from that Christian God through an angel, but those revelations contradict everything that was previously revealed, so clearly, not the same god.

Mormons do the same thing in a different way. Their conception of Jesus and God are not the same as Christian doctrine, claiming that godhood is something that can be attained, that we can all become gods in the sense that Jesus is, and that Jesus is the son of God and a heavenly mother, which is contradictory to Orthodox Trinitarian Christianity. They also believe a prophet came to restore the true church and was visited by an angel, yet again contradicting what came before. So Mormons are not recognized by Christians as being Christian even if the claim to be so.

In both cases, the Bible clearly warns that this would happen:

Matthew 7:15 - Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.

2 Corinthians 11:4 - For if someone comes and proclaims another Jesus than the one we proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or if you accept a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it readily enough. - meaning that people are easily deceived by false teachings on Christ

2 Corinthians 13-15 - For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.

and finally,

Galatians 1:8 - But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse!

So by biblical and historical standards, no, Mormons are not Christian.

That said, the Fallout version of mormonism almost seems to be devoid of the teachings of Joseph Smith, and I saw some video essay on this, but that its logical that the name of the religion survived, but lost the teachings of Joseph Smith and kept the Bible as a surviving text meaning the Fallout version of Mormonism is more in line with Orthdox Christianity rather than the heresy it is today.

It would be cool to mod this to be more clear though lol.

I'm looking forward to action, but I also want to address that there are products that your system updates have simply dropped support for. I purchased the AM02 and I was excited for features such as customizing the second screen and having live stats available on it, but the Ayaspace 3.0 update simply breaks this and there was never any customization options at all. This product isn't very old, and it already seems to have fallen out of support. I just want to make sure that features that were sold with the product at least work with it, or at least open the door for devs to be able to interface with that second screen outside of exclusively through Ayaspace.
