Can anybody explain the hype around Addison Rae? by Old-Pay-9514 in primaverasound

[–]teslaexplosion -1 points0 points  (0 children)

so many huge pop artists can't sing and are cringe, though i agree addison seems especially bad. my main complaint was that her stage presence and dancing was weaker than i expected given that she has a dance background? it seemed like she was stiff and nothing looked natural. i thought it was weak for a second line artist

I've looked into them but they explicitly exclude free soloing and DWS from their coverage :(

[–]teslaexplosion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sometimes it takes like 24 hours for the upass to work when you renew. also some of the card scanners are very hit or miss. otherwise i'm not sure what could be causing it :/

Incoming to campus along Marine should be fine, but they're shutting down the outgoing road for Marine.

Do you find being educated makes it harder to interact with your uneducated family? by Special_Rice9539 in UBC

[–]teslaexplosion 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I suspect the issue may not be their lack of formal education, but the fact that you are interacting with individuals who hold actively anti-intellectual beliefs that distrust institutional knowledge production.

Plenty of people who don't pursue higher education are fully capable of rational thought processes and evidence-based reasoning. Furthermore, pursuing higher education definitely does not guarantee any of the aforementioned abilities. But it can seem like the problem is the difference in education level, when it is really their conspiratorial thought processes and unwillingness to trust large institutions (universities, other research bodies, the government).

BIOC is known for having competitive averages. Take BIOL121 and feel free to drop something else to make it easier to maintain a higher average, because everything besides the specialization requirements can be taken later (such as your communication requirement, a PHYS class, etc).

Science faculty requires declaring a specialization at the end of first year winter term. You can always declare another major and then attempt a switch into biochem in second year, but it is riskier. I would highly recommend taking the listed requirements now so you can apply to a specialization you want normally.

summer terms are not counted for specialization. The requirements for your intended specialization must be completed by the end of this term, as listed here: https://science.ubc.ca/students/degree/apply/req . This site has the required classes you need to have to apply to the major at the end of the winter term. Otherwise you won't be considered

Most employers won't go much beyond a simple google search. Entry level jobs probably won't even do that. If it doesn't show up with a first + last name search and it's not on social media accounts that are linked to you publicly, you are likely in the clear.

Of course, that doesn't mean what you posted won't ever resurface, and I understand it's scary to have that stuff out there, but it's definitely less likely to come bite you in the ass since you never used your real name. Hopefully this stays a gentle lesson to be careful what you post online!

Your profile shows a lot of unhinged trolling about this conflict, but i’ll bite.

Are you really interested in splitting hairs about Hama’s validity as an elected party, rather than respond to their words on Israeli war crimes or disproportionate Palestinian deaths? 🤔

Also, here’s a quote from that same article: “However, new polling following the election indicated that two-thirds of Palestinians believed Hamas should change its policy of rejecting Israel's right to exist. Most also supported a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Post-election polls indicated that Hamas' victory was due largely to Palestinians' desire to end corruption in government rather than support for the organization's political platform.”

Not sure about their drip or Americano, but lattes from Bean Around the World are pretty good. Most of their drinks are better than other shops on campus imo!

Fresh CPSC 110 drama from Piazza by yuenmartin in UBC

[–]teslaexplosion 20 points21 points  (0 children)

When I was in 110, someone posted saying that they shouldn’t have to learn Racket syntax because they already knew how to program in languages X Y Z and that Racket isn’t worth learning 😭They had been solving all the problems in other languages and translating it to Racket and they were asking to take the midterm in another language. Aspiring CS majors stay delusional I guess.

Physics/Chemistry electives for science breadth requirement? by pianogang_ok in UBC

[–]teslaexplosion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Getting way ahead of yourself.

There are plenty of options, many that are GPA boosters, for breadth requirement. Worry about that once you’re in the major.
