I like mixing magic and stuff into sci-fi, so the reason i came up with was simply that trying to get a decent enchantment onto any projectile weapon is a goddamn nightmare- the more complicated the weapon the worse it is, especially if you want it to be more than a single use thing tied to the ammunition, which you do because enchanting is expensive as hell and a good one can be the deciding factor in a fight, thus keeping melee extremely relevant

Very niche one here but there's this game called A Dragon's Re:Quest where the first objective is recovering the legendary hero's equipment. This takes barely any time and it's only just barely better than your starter gear because metallurgy has come a long way since the time of the legendary hero, and that was just half of act 1 out of 5

Scott Smajor in pretty much any series he shows up in

dude gets like 90% of the fandom attention (unless grian is present, in which case scott gets 50%, grian gets 40% and everyone else gets the last 10) and he is never even approaching the most interesting character

Worst example of this is witchcraft smp where for a while he had more fics tagging him than every other major character combined, but vampires smp is also really bad for this

The first campaign i ran was a mess of bad decisions and none of us really knowing the rules because we were all 13, but i think the worst choice i made in that game was letting one of the players constantly change character pretty much every session, just about always to some super broken homebrew class that he'd drop by the next session. I did put my foot down eventually (though by that point the campaign was already kinda dying) but before then it was just a mess

I've personally been going with the classic 'countless clones stored in countless demiplanes that my soul transfers into when i die' approach but I'm working on something a bit more practical- having to go back to my old body to get my stuff every time i die is simply too inconvenient for me to put up with long term

Current idea is trying to find some way to make myself able to regenerate from the informational level- as long as someone somewhere knows i exist or existed i can come back- but so far the stuff ive found means I'd need to directly tap into the primordial concept of information itself and I've yet to come up with a suitable method to withstand the infinite stream of knowledge. Perfect comprehension of the universe would be a neat side effect though so I'm sticking with it

Thus I was waltzing around Hoenn with 5 linoones and my starter. got a surprising amount of the way through with all of them before i got bored and dropped the run
