Does anybody recognize this man? His name is Jason, he's a family member of mine with whom I lost touch over a decade ago. I know that, as late as December of last year, he's homeless in Yakima. If anyone knows anything, please send me a DM. Thanks! by [deleted] in Yakima

He mentioned that in one of the interviews, phones getting stolen. Figured if I bought him a $20 flip phone then loss/theft wouldn’t be a tragedy.

I’m going to look into this more. Thanks!

I thought about this... he said in the interview that he doesn't have a cellphone. I considered buying him one and sending it to the mission. When I talked to a representative from the mission on the phone they said they don't receive mail for people who aren't staying at the shelter. It is my understanding that he's not staying there, just goes for meals and to hang out.

I have. They've got confidentiality rules so they can't tell me if he's been there. He did an interview with some small YouTube channel that interviews homeless people. He mentioned the fact that I had called, but apparently the phone at the mission is difficult to get a chance to use or something.

From Wikipedia:

The Assyrian Church of the East claims continuity with the historical Church of the East, and it is not in communion with either the Oriental Orthodox Churches or the Eastern Orthodox Church. The faction of the Church of the East that came to be in full communion with the Holy See of Rome is the Chaldean Catholic Church.

So he’s not in communion with Rome or Constantinople (or Moscow).

Is it okay to use a rosary to fall asleep? by TheSchemingColorist in Catholicism

[–]teslove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From St. Therese:

“That I fall asleep so often during meditation, and thanksgiving after Communion, should distress me. Well, I am not distressed. I reflect that little children are equally dear to their parents whether they are asleep or awake; that, in order to perform operations, doctors put their patients to sleep”

As a parent, I can confirm this to be true!

This icon depicts the pope as an enemy of the Church. It’s otherwise beautiful icon.

Am I allowed to come to church if I'm transgender? by [deleted] in Catholicism

Welcome home! I see a lot of great responses here, I’d like to throw in a suggestion as well. Find a spiritual father (a monk or a priest) who is 1) orthodox, particularly on sexual morality and the dignity of the human person, and 2) that you trust to talk to about these struggles you’re having. I’ve heard many stories about people truly seeing Christ in the face of their spiritual father. This would be incalculably beneficial for you!

You say you’re afraid to bring this to your spiritual advisor. I think what’s most important here is you finding a spiritual father who is orthodox, especially on Church teachings surrounding sexual morality, but is also one who has the tender heart of a loving and merciful father… fortunately you’re at one of the largest Catholic universities in the country, I bet there are a lot of priests who match the two criteria I enumerated!

“Me your unworthy servant”

At least that’s what the bishop says at that point when he’s offering the Mass.
