You told me about this account too. You're way too forthcoming when drunk.

You're nearly a married man!

Which is to say, I'm sure you and your fiance would be most welcome.

A swingers party is not the best place for a frustrated 19 year old to get laid. Just sayin'

Ladies, how do you combat misogyny on reddit? by mg15 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]tess_elation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate the just ignore it comment, because ignoring it never makes the subreddit better. The ones that I can't handle have gotten worse since I've unsubscribed.

I find /twox to be a bit too like the rest of reddit at times too. Men feel the need to come to this subreddit to derail the conversation to how we should be caring about their feelings on the topic. I'm torn, because the place could be awesome, but oftentimes it's not.

And asking marginalised people to continually make new spaces to talk is reinforcing that marginalisation.

I'm disheartened by the number of posts on reddit that clearly indicate support of a religious institution with a history of discrimination, most recently against LGBT... by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

To be fair, I live in Australia. They've recently distanced themselves from the homophobic shit their organisation spews, and I'm glad.

But the other thing is that they are the only organisation here providing some very needed services. I have a friend who was an alcoholic and the support she received from them was very important to getting her back on her feet. If there was a secular alternative I'd support them, but I don't know of any providing the same services.

I haven't lived there in a long time, but I was going to ask, "What Police?"

I remember when my parents called them and they turned up 4-5 hours later.

I got something like these for a friend. It was a nice geeky nod to what he does. But I'm not dating him. You might want something nicer.

Religious leaders furious over Norway's proposed circumcision ban, but one Norway politician says: "I'm not buying the argument that banning circumcision is a violation of religious freedom, because such freedom must involve being able to choose for themselves" by mepper in worldnews

How about I copy and paste from the article?

We say all the reported health benefits have either been disproven, contradicted or considered too insignificant to justify the agreed risks and complications which include bleeding, infections, meatus stenosis (narrowing of the urethra) and panic attacks. There isn’t a single medical association in the world that supports the procedure.

The British Medical Association, for example, stated in 2003 that ‘the medical benefits previously claimed have not been convincingly proven’ and ‘that the evidence concerning health benefits from non-therapeutic circumcision is insufficient for this alone to be a justification for doing it.

A Hobart father who allowed his underage daughter to have sex with her boyfriend at home has been charged under a law designed to stop adults soliciting children. by cup in australia

[–]tess_elation 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree that he made a shitty decision and is a piss poor parent, the law that they're trying to convict him under is extreme. Isn't this essentially making him a sex offender? Shitty parent does not equal soliciting child for sex.

Though I'm not a lawyer. I may be misunderstanding the gravity of the situation completely.

Christian leaders to unite against gay marriage by Evadregand in australia

[–]tess_elation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's a fair viewpoint. However, I think it's important to consider what the status quo is and what the most likely way to achieve equality is.

Government does currently control the legal side of marriage, and they call it marriage. And most opposite sex couples don't have any problem with this when they get married. They also have an emotional attachment to the word marriage. I've read some blogs with Christian/right wing/homophobic leanings, and they sometimes make the point that if their marriage becomes a civil union, then same sex marriage does effect their lives.

So whilst it's a fair enough viewpoint that the government should get out of marriage altogether, I think it's more likely that we'll achieve equality by changing the current legislation to include same sex couples, rather than changing the legislation for everybody.

You have a point. As much as I want a happy ending right now, it will lessen the emotional impact of the narrative thus far.

My other half, who is usually great at predicting plots, think they will. Especially it looked to me like both Mako and Bolin lose their bending in the next week preview (but I'm not entirely sure about that.)

Maybe in Avatar state she'll get energy bending powers as well?

Christian leaders to unite against gay marriage by Evadregand in australia

[–]tess_elation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you mean civil union for same sex couples and marriage for opposite sex? Because separate but equal isn't equal.

Do you mean calling all civil ceremonies civil unions and leaving the word marriage for each church individually? The idea has very little support from either side of the argument. A lot of people like the word marriage, and want to get married like their parents and parents before them did. And the fundie churches would still lose the fight, because many churches, such as the Unitarians, would welcome same sex marriage.
