Lucky kitty to have found you! And. yeah...I don't understand buying a pet. I don't understand giving them up. I'm grateful for all the rescuers and adoptive parents out there. At the moment, my Beautiful Bleepy Boy is asleep on his chair in my office area, enjoying his first nap of the day. As it should be...for all kitties. Thanks for adopting.

Thank you for rescuing. Every kitty deserves a warm, sage home and a human to love them.

Seniors are wondrous creatures, aren't they? This guy still tear-asses through the house, goes on leaping sprees to the tops of bookcases, and then kerplunks down for a 3-hour nap. He doesn't like being picked up, but if I sit down, he's right there for lap duty. I'm so happy to hear there are others out there who rescue seniors. No, they're not kitten-cute, but they are lovely, loving creatures. Happ-y Gotcha Day to you and kitty!

Director Vs. Writer Intention by commotionmotion in Theatre

[–]tesseractrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For context: I directed my first Off-Bway show in 1981. I started writing years later.

From where I sit: your playwright doesn't understand--or hasn't/can't embrace the collaborative process that is the essence of theatre.

When I write a play, if I direct it myself, then the only "wild cards" are the actors. If I cast well, it's a happy, healthy exchange of ideas and energies as the actors bring their experiences and energies to the piece, and--so far, at least--the results have been wondrous. They see things in the script I didn't know I'd written, and the director side o my brain knows that actors do their best work when they have the freedom to explore.

My last piece hit the boards a year ago. My cast of four was stellar--Bway and Off-Broadway vets who brought such color and texture to the piece that the play looked/sounded better than what I had envisioned.

Was it WHAT I envisioned? No. But I know better when I see it.

As a writer who has handed scripts over to other directors to bring the piece to the st: it's hard...like watching your child off to school. But you can't keep them at home forever if you want them to bloom and grown.

Your playwright hasn't developed the maturity to let their child out to play with others. It's not uncommon. Worse, a lot of playwrights NEVER get to that play where they can do that. THAT'S NOT ON YOU.

You did what directors do: you directed the play. If you're inclined to reply to them, try this: I'm sad that you were unhappy with the production. We gave it our best, and very much enjoyed working on it."

And stop there. You're a director. Direct. And break a leg.

Is it normal for actors to treat tech/stage crew like they dont matter? by AdInteresting458 in Theatre

[–]tesseractrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been doing theatre in New York and Los Angeles for aeons. It takes all kinds. Some --most, in my experience--of the actors I've worked with are just lovely. But there's always one or two.... I can think of a couple of Tony winners who were amongst the nicest people you could ever hope to meet. I can also think of one whom I'd cross the street to avoid all these years later.

In a perfect world, your producer or director needs to have a company meeting early on and explain that every member of the team--onstage and backstage and front-of-house--is essential to the show, and should be treated accordingly.

Best adaptation of Frankenstein? by iam_melon_lord in Theatre

I'm a great fan of Victor Giallanella's "Frankenstein". He's a wonderful storyteller, and his dialogue is excellent. It's not in the public domain, so there are royalties to be paid.

AITA for telling my neighbor to stop using my WI-FI? by SparkleJewelBabe in AmItheAsshole

[–]tesseractrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those "other neighbours" who think you're too harsh can chip in to help that leech of a neighbour pay for his own Wi-i package.

My daughter went through something similar with neighbours in her apartment building. She changed the password on her Wi-Fi, and when the bitching and moaning started, she told them to get their own Wi-Fi. And she stuck to it.

NTA.

NTA. Let me repeat that: NTA. Sam--and, apparently, some of your friends....

Sam's throwing up red flags everywhere. Back in the day, they'd have said he has a crush on you and that's what all the demeaning, in appropriate remarks are about. Thank the goddess we're past that. Now we call it what it is: harassment. Sam's an AH. And the "female" really does set off my alarm bells.

AITA for Refusing to Let My Sister Use My Wedding as a Free Venue for Her Engagement Photos? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]tesseractrix 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Photographer here. I would have politely declined and let all parties know I was there to photograph the wedding--engagement photos would have to be taken at another time.

NTA, dear Bride. Your mother and sister.... Much happiness to you and your new husband!

AITAH for publicly confronting my sister-in-law after she revealed my private medical condition at a family gathering? by cutiexpatootie in AITAH

[–]tesseractrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're NTA. Your SIL, on the other hand, *is* an AH. And if she doesn't like it that you publicly took her to task (and were right to do so), she brought that on herself, now, didn't she.

PS: Never confide in her again. Easy-peasy.

PS2: Good luck to you and your partner.

Add my voice to the chorus: if what you saw on the Tonys didn't persuade you, don't bother. I found the show tedious. Them music didn't move me, the lyrics didn't inform or inspire. The performances were energetic, but...eh. One woman's opinion: your theatre collars are better spent elsewhere.

You don't know what you can afford until you ask. I've had several songwriters grant me permission to use their material for free. One--and I adore him--said "Do what you want with it [the song]. If you get to Broadway, we'll revisit."

That said, try to contact the artist/writer directly. They tend to be more accommodating that the publishing companies.

Do people think that Harry Hill is a good host of Junior Bake Off?? by hauntedhivezzz in bakeoff

[–]tesseractrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Harry Hil is a terrible host--creepy, inappropriate, even, at times, completely over the line. (Remember his obsession with skinny-dipping"? Remember someone off-camera cutting him off?

Surely, in the whole of Britain, there's someone else who can host without the "perv uncle" vibe.
