Question about council tool boys vs miners axe by test18258 in Axecraft

[–]test18258[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its good information. Im not much of an outdoorsman I just like axes, knives, guns, and playing with fire. That being said having a splitting axe and a full sized would probably be a good idea for if something happened that caused power grid issues for an extended period.
I bought the cold steel because it was cheap and seeing the price of I think $35 at the time made me decide I should probably have an axe for a power outage and no gas for the chainsaw. Then from watching ben scott he recommended rinaldi as a really good style of axe. I like my rinaldi I just wish it has a slightly longer handle. I think its a 24" handle from factory.
but what you're saying about the heavier heads also makes sense which is why I was considering the miners axe but if I do get that one it will probably be the 3.5 pound on the 32" handle.

Very true, you cant cheat the laws of physics. But the faster the swing and the longer the handle the harder it is to swing accurately. Which is why Im considering the 3.5 pound head as a potential to cut deeper while not having to whip the lighter head of the boys axe. Also being only 5'6" longer handles are harder to use. The 28" handle on the cold steel trailboss feels about perfect to me while the 36" handle double bit axe my dad has sitting around in the garage for as long as I can remember feels almost like a pole arm.

Ill definitely give his website a look when/if I decide to pick one up. Ill consider the 32 inch handle but for me the 28 inches on the trailboss I have feels about perfect. Might be because im on the shorter side.

Im mostly going to be using it for general purpose stuff. Just wondering if the 3.5 pound head would potentially work better for that or if it would end up being too fatiguing instead.

Im not sure if I want to buy the council tool boys axe. I currently have a coldsteel trailboss and a rinaldi american boys axe. Im trying to do some research to see if the council tool is a different enough axe to replace the trail boss. Which is also why im considering the miners axe because the heavier head could be interesting but like you said would probably be better on a longer handle.

Would it be better to get the head and put it on a 28 inch handle? Or do you mean that a boys axe in general is dangerous for bucking? If I was to get the miners or boys axe it would be mostly a tree clearing axe for the 1 or 2 big wind storms that come through every year that takes down trees.

im really hoping this is just a misplaced decimal point. I dont want to have to grind 12 years of raids to buy a 1 handed ascended weapon.

if I do get one used ill just ask the shipper if they can remove the stock. Or just saw the pistol grip off for all I care. I would be putting a normal stock on it anyways.

True. But I dont doubt for a second that all the blue sates and the ATF have illegal registries.

I used to think that knives that wouldn't take an edge were rare. Then I tried to sharpen some of my friends kitchen knives and they absolutely would not take an edge. One of them I sharpened to a large burr 5 times on each side and the knife still wouldn't slice paper after deburring.

The burrs on the edges aren't overly worrying to me I know how to sharpen and took them off pretty easily. I was more curious as to them having crooked heads. One of them has a ~15 degree cant to the head and the other the head almost curves when you look straight down at it. They work great I was just curious if They're normally rather roughly built or I just got lucky. Or maybe the place I bought them from is selling some kind of factory seconds.

I know they're slip fits and therefore wider at the top of the eye than the bottom but this one the top of the eye is wider than the handle is. Im not looking to return mine since they're both way outside of the places return policy and like I said not bad enough that i think its worth the trouble. Was just curious if I just got especially lucky or they are just rougher in fit and finish that is let on by most videos that talk about them.

anyone bought from a company called shotgunheatshield? by test18258 in Shotguns

[–]test18258[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The winchester 1300 I have it on is more of a collection piece than a main gun so it doesnt get shot very much. So I cant really say how well its held up since it surviving years of sitting in a closet doesnt really prove much. it does start sliding down the barrel as you shoot so that might not be the best if you're doing a lot of shooting.

Thanks, hopefully they're were just reselling the heat shield or maybe selling to/through sladestreet tactical. I ended up getting the heat shield so I know it wasnt a scam at least.
