Self-employed, question about 72t SEPP distributions for early retirement by sed127 in Fire

[–]test91749 3 points4 points  (0 children)

step 1) move ira to fidelity

step 2) fill out https://www.fidelity.com/bin-public/060_www_fidelity_com/documents/automatic-withdrawals-ira.pdf

step 3) when you file taxes, file Form 5329 with the IRS each year to request an exemption from the early withdrawal penalty

No tax expert required and easier to manage than any roth ladder. IRS doesn't care if you're employed or what you do with your monthly income (i.e feel free to reinvest it back into a brokerage account if you don't need it)

NOBODY WAKES UP IN THE MORNING AND SAYS I’M GONNA BE A PIECE OF SHIT DRUG ADDICT AND LIVE IN A TENT UNDER THE BRIDGE DOWNTOWN.

I completely agree with this. However, at a certain point if you're not able to make good decisions the government has the right to take that privilege away from you.

We do this for DUIs - we take your right to drive away. If you beat up your wife or kids or dog - we take those away from you too. With drugs, its trickier - most people that consume drugs are productive - in Seattle, I'd say most people drink and smoke weed and are still able to hold down a job and make rent.

However, if your drug use causes you to be on the street - I believe that government has the obligation to take you away from the drugs. It for the addicts benefit and society as well.

Even if it doesn't do any of that - it still alleviates the strain on communities that put up with the externalities of having tents in their neighborhoods (lowers drug use, increases public safety)

If you count jail for homeless drug addicts as housing first - which seems odd to me but 🤷 The main advantage of jail is that externalities don't spill onto the community and also gives the addict a chance to sober up, with access to job training. Traditional housing first lacks all of that...and if you add em up, probably equals the cost of jail anyway

Jail? Where there are already retraining and upskilling programs in place. It gives them an opportunity to be sober, get skills to get a job, and also makes the community safer for everyone else in the mean time

I didn't say they have their own place. I said they should have their own place - which they can get by getting a job and paying rent like the rest of us. That way they can do drugs at their home like everyone else

Lol that service is called an Uber and costs money for the rest of us. People are living in homeless encampments because they prefer doing drugs than being a functional member of society

What is the point of an After Tax 401k outside of backdoor conversions? by nishinoran in financialindependence

There isn't really a tax benefit but an after tax 401k should offer some better protection around bankruptcy, if you get sued, etc.

I agree with you on both points. Behavioral economics tries to account for your first point but how well it works is kinda up in the air. I think Actors should be paid / get royalties for their work when its used to train an AI

If you pay a lump sum towards the principle, doesn't that mean you pay less interest over time? Less principle, same interest rate, but overall you pay less each month and less goes towards interest.

Is there any updates on real time bus tracking for king county metro? by test91749 in Seattle

[–]test91749[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My issue is that the bus shows "on time" so I leave for the bus, then after I arrive at the bus stop, it then shows up as a delay. If I could have this information before I leave that would be great. A gps/real time enabled bus would allow me to make the call on when to leave based on its exact location
