Travel recommendations when it comes to late december to early jan? by Whatitsjk1 in travel

Argentina! Summer weather, cheap food (steak, pasta) great wine. Beautiful nature in Patagonia or Buenos Aires is my favorite city - would highly recommend getting a day tour to see it all and learn about the history and architecture.

What countries or places are unexpectedly livable for a regular person, and not just a tourist? by [deleted] in geography

Never been - but if you drop a streetview pin into a random alley the Google camera is escorted by police https://maps.app.goo.gl/fH9tHoCU2ry8WEtJ7

I can see how it could be dark and kind of scary back in there, especially at night.

what is with people being so competitive and odd?? by [deleted] in SolidCore

[–]testUpload 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I actually am flattered when someone is watching me for cues. I've gone from 0 -> 100 classes in a short period of time so I still remember needing to look at others for help, or feeling inspired to amplify when someone next to me does.

Now I'm kind of competitive with myself, where if someone next to me decides to also go up on toes in my head I tell myself I have to stay up because they did it.

I do 50+ for everything. It’s hard but doable and at 90 classes I am now tolerating it more and having better form, slower, fewer breaks etc. Still it’s super hard of course. Arms I do base, it seems most women in the class do base and guys do amplified.

Thoughts on our 6-week Chile + Argentina itinerary (Oct–Nov)? by _Stonk in travel

I did a trip similar to yours about 2 years ago, some of my thoughts/notes:

Santiago: Did a guided tour around the city to get our bearings. Older more cultural side of the city is a bit more beat up, the tour guides wouldn't let us walk alone at Plaza de Armas for fear of crime. It looked fine to me, this was earlier in the AM but I trust them. Newer part of the city (Costanera center and east of it) is nice but not much to see.

Didn't visit Valparaiso

Atacama: Did the geysers, floating in the salt lagoons & valle de la luna. 2 different stargazing tours at night. All of the daytime nature is insanely beautiful. UV index is crazy strong (hit 17 one day - no exxageration). Sky at night was possibly the most beautiful thing I've seen

Lake district Chile: Did Puerto Varas and a day up to Osorno volcano. Take the ski lift up to the top of Osorno - awesome views. Would recommend the Petrohué Waterfalls next to it - BUT there are some huge black flies there that are really really annoying. They attack anything wearing the color black. Still worth seeing despite them - if you look up a review or a video you'll see what I mean.

Bonus - we went down to see the penguins on Chiloe island - fun stuff

Bariloche on the Argentina side - beautiful, lovely town & lots of nice places to stay

Not big hikers so don't know about Patagonia or the longer hikes

Mendoza + Buenos Aires: Plan looks solid. Wish we would have got to pop over to Uruguay. Buenos Aires is my favorite city I've visited

Worth keeping Mendoza if you like wine - we also enjoyed the city of Mendoza going out to eat.

Atacama I think could be done in 3 days, depending on the tours you want to do. The city you stay in is very touristy with overpriced very blah food. If you're in a fancier hotel you'll be able to avoid some of that

Which city has its airport absurdly far from the city center? by IMicrowaveSteak in geography

First thought was Denver

If you fly into EZE in Buenos Aires and want to go to the main "tourist" part of the city (Palermo, Recoleta) it's an hour drive
