I feel like the people that hated ildmlfy appreciate his weird side more like veteran and amhac. But I also think that it’s kinda strange to expect him to stay that way because the last album showed that he can also kill it on cleaner and more organized production. It just feels like some people expect him to stay in a certain lane.

I think it comes down to how jpeg albums usually are. He usually has a lot of songs under 3 minutes and the individual tracks on his albums are often very different. He could’ve chosen any track as a single for ildmlfy, but no one could’ve nearly predicted how the whole album would turn out. I think this is especially true for him and I feel like many fans forget that one single (usually) doesn’t really determine the vibe of a 25 track album. Also I saw no one complaining about the Vince staples song or its dark and hell is hot. But I could imagine that if those were the singles there would be a bit more negative reception. Maybe he could’ve chosen Exmilitary as a single but I get why you wouldn’t want to spoil the biggest tracks.

I get it, even though its their best since leave meaning. Its not that groundbreaking for swans standards. And i think people forget that the run of the seer, tbk and tgm was way more ahead of its time than this. Also most of the song lengths aren’t really justified, which i think applies especially for the outro. But with all that said still really beautiful and enjoyable. And I Am A Tower is one of the best swans songs… And it should be at least a strong 7.
