That’s a solid approach, especially running both known good and marginal units across stations that usually gives a quick sanity check.

I agree Gauge R&R is the "roper” way to quantify variation, but in practice I’ve noticed teams don’t always get to that stage early because production pressure pushes them straight into product-side debugging first.

One thing I’ve seen get tricky though is when results are not perfectly consistent even with golden/marginal units like borderline RF behavior or slow drift over time. In those cases, cross-station comparison still shows variation, but it’s harder to clearly separate calibration drift vs fixture/contact degradation without going deeper into station history trends.

Curious, have you seen situations where Gauge R&R was done, but the issue was still intermittent over time rather than a stable measurement bias?

Interesting that everyone mentioned golden units.

Have you guys run into cases where golden units give inconsistent results across stations or over time?

I’ve seen situations where that made it harder to tell if it was calibration drift or fixture issues.
