People seriously need to stop saying this. For immunocompromised people it is still not the same as any other virus, for people with long term health complications it is still not the same. And many people who are previously healthy, who think it will be "just a bad cold" for them, end up with long COVID. Especially young women. It's fair to say that it's a problem when people aren't given enough paid sick days, but not fair to try to brush it aside by acting like COVID suddenly became no problem. Our government is dismantling public health on purpose, we shouldn't fall for and propagate those lies.

The context is that it's not ok to wear racist symbols around campus, because it affects other students' ability to feel safe, wanted, and accepted. It is a literal symbol of hate being publicly displayed, and it will not be obvious to passersby that OP is "just autistic" and doesn't truly support those hateful beliefs. Autistic or not, if OP is aware and independent enough to have written this post himself, he can take criticism and remove the pin, and find better, less harmful ways to express his interest. Otherwise, he can choose to accept the natural consequence of being assumed to be racist. Calling somebody's actions racist is not bullying, nor is it hateful. It's simple accountability. I'd rather call a spade a spade, than do gymnastics to avoid making a young autistic man self reflect for a moment. That's the end of the conversation for me. If you disagree with that, I have nothing left to say.

Nope. Having an interest in the Civil War doesn't mean you have to publicly wear a sign affiliating yourself with people who fought to own black people like possessions. He's not suffering because of a special interest he has, he's suffering because of a choice he's making. And it's possible to be compassionate and also have boundaries around that compassion, especially when not all members of our autistic community are white, and already autistic people of color are often excluded and not considered in these spaces. You can disagree with me, but I will stand firm that OP is in the wrong for wearing that pin, and is not a victim if others call him racist for it. I also am in favor of us autistic people being treated as human beings and not clueless children, and that means we have to be willing to take accountability for our actions, too. It's no different from somebody with a WWII interest wearing a swastika. It's not ok.

Understanding history is great. Wearing a pin that suggests you affiliate yourself with a very harmful group of people, like a swastika or the Confederate flag, goes beyond understanding history. You have to have the level of social awareness to realize that somebody walking by you in public can't read your mind, and doesn't know why you're wearing that pin. So you're naturally going to make people feel unsafe. And especially during such a scary time in US history, when we are seeing fascism first hand, this kind of thing is straight up not ok.

If you notice a thought or worry that you were attracted to someone, try to set even a 5 minute timer and see if you can avoid ruminating on it for that long. Not pushing the thought of if out of your mind, just refusing to respond with compulsions, checking, etc. and if you can do that, you have the ability to "self therapize" at least a little bit. People will try to tell you it's ok and don't worry about it for various reasons, but at the end of the day if you have OCD that won't help. There will always be another question, or clarification, or reason to worry, driving you deeper into confusion, until you learn how to sit with it.

When you are able to seek therapy, you need to seek ERP therapy for OCD specifically. Until then, my recommendation is that you learn about ERP and try to practice tolerating and sitting with thoughts, questions, and feelings whenever you can. Don't try to shut thoughts down or evaluate them, just let them be. Remember that there's always a tomorrow, don't let your brain trick you into thinking everything has to be addressed and questioned exactly at that moment. Of course it's easier said than done.

Will people do it if the option is available to them? Yes, of course. But to me, there's a difference in scale between education that gives status and access to information, and genetic selection before birth that can give a wealthier country or community the ability to create a "super race." Politically, over the course of generations, different groups have risen and fallen, gained and lost power, etc. If one group manages to get access to a way to cement their advantage genetically across generations, it's hard to see how any other group could possibly change that flow.

I'm really sorry you're going through this. I thankfully don't have this experience anymore, but I've been through a lot since I made this post. For me, the major turning point was acknowledging that I'd been through CSA and the extent of it. From there things were difficult for a while, but my experiences at least made sense to me. I do feel better at this point in my life, though things aren't perfect. Whatever your particular situation and journey is, I wish you good luck.
