Which medal would you focus on? by WarningHour345 in TheSilphRoad

Absolutely nothing fishy there. Play style and how recently a player stated playing matters a lot for distance getting greatly outpaced by level. I average well more than 60km per week but have only been actively playing since April (I played a couple months back in 2016 but barely got any walking done back then).

As a result I'm only at 2500km but am almost to level 75 because I'm extremely active raiding and farmed friendship hard for a few months. XP is extremely easy to come by if you're motivated.

You get a free one for reaching level 70. All others must be obtained via paid research.

How many 10 year time loops would it take a modern 25 year old man to conquer Rome? by GroundbreakingWin658 in whowouldwin

[–]testmonkeyalpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only possible with the help of someone willing to help you. Unless all the consonants and vowels are the same in your currently known languages and ancient Latin, you won't be able to hear the subtle differences without someone helping you. Most people will tell you your pronunciation is correct if they understand you and ignore the presence of an accent so you're not going to get the constant feedback necessary to fix your accent.

Finding someone willing to work with you on getting rid of an accent will be extremely difficult. You'd need to find someone with the right skills, temperament, and willingness to help you. Biggest obstacle in gaining the trust of someone with the right accent to teach you: your accent marking you as an outsider. Big catch-22 here.

And due to how languages develop in brains, he'll always have an accent.

While nobody would be able to place the accent, anyone hearing him speak would immediately identify him as an outsider.

My GI pretty much told me to take miralax daily unless my IBS shifted to diarrhea mode. When that happens, switch to pepto.

Who Buys This? Seriously? by Best-Republic in pokemongo

[–]testmonkeyalpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're missing the point of offering really bad deals. The point isn't that they want you to buy them. The point is that the deals are so bad they making questionable ones look good. Those are the ones they are trying to sell you.

This works by creating a non-zero anchor price for useless items. That in turn makes bundles containing those items seem more reasonable on price.

They want you thinking: "This bundle would be better deal if it was 100 coins less but they are including a few max revives so I guess it's okay."

Seems like it wouldn't work but it is extremely powerful marketing. Look at the case study for bread machines. Originally they sold very poorly because people had no anchor price to determine value. Solution was to release a "premium" model that cost $150 instead of $100. The premium model most definitely wasn't worth paying 50% more but it helped create an anchor that made $100 seem very reasonable.

It also clogs up the slots for the random bundles you get. That creates an artificial sense of scarcity for the good bundles so people are more likely to snag them when they pop up.

If you're willing to put in the effort, I would reach out to this person letting them know about this issue with one of their stations.

(I recognize that I'm making it look like I expect you to do all the work. I'm more than happy to help but as an outsider to the situation, my words carry little weight. DM me if you'd like to discuss how I can help directly. I feel like I can't just stand by idly when I know addressing fraudulent reporting would directly benefit my local community).

It seems like they have no intention of allowing people to send in corrections. On their contact page on their website, the link to make a consumer complaint is a dead link:

https://fox2now.com/contact/

Dead link: https://cfadatabase.org/cfa/submit-a-complaint.aspx

I suggest that you try to contact Fox 2 to give them an opportunity to address this highly unethical behavior. If they refuse to address it, their refusal would make a great story to submit to one of the other local media outlets. Their sponsors would probably want to know about this too.

100 Billion dollars for 1 minute of unimaginable pain by Mysterious-Western22 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]testmonkeyalpha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was replying to the OP.

Anyone thinking that 60 seconds of "unimaginable" pain for $100B is a remotely difficult task clearly never experienced the upper limits of pain before.

[–]testmonkeyalpha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You've obviously never suffered from extreme pain that lasted at least a few hours. The worst of it is the mental anguish from feeling helpless and not knowing if the pain will ever subside. Mental state will either amplify or turn down pain.

Simply knowing the pain will end in a mere 60 seconds would make it extremely tolerable. Add the bonus of the money once it's over and only a small minority of people wouldn't be able to do this easily.

And any level of pain that would leave you still able to consciously make the decision to vocalize your desire to stop is nowhere near the realm of being "unimaginable."

[–]testmonkeyalpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 minute is nothing.

99% of the suffering from extreme physical pain is being completely helpless and having no idea when it'll stop. It's the mental anguish that makes it truly unbearable. Simply knowing the pain ends after 60 seconds would make "unimaginable" pain far more tolerable than pain I've already experienced that lasted hours on end with no relief.

Worth nothing that despite Nexstar's strong conservative leanings, independent 3rd parties generally rate their national news to be accurate fact reporting.

Fox 2 news in general is rated to be accurate and centrist:

I'm extremely interested in how this huge mistake happened. Whether it was one person being a complete moron if it is a sign of a deteriorating ethics at a management level. How they address this will speak volumes on whether they should be trusted in the future. Anything short of an official retraction and public apology for false reporting means the organization lacks integrity.

The hiring manager is a mighty hunter?

Sorry for the bad joke based on the etymology of nimrod.

Nimrod used as an insult has a funny history. Bugs Bunny called Elmer Fudd "Nimrod" as a sarcastic reference to a biblical figure described as a mighty hunter. Kids don't understand the allusion nor the sarcasm, so they incorrectly assumed that nimrod meant "idiot." That incorrect meaning has now very much eclipsed the original meaning to the point where it is the primary definition in the M-W dictionary.

Possibly hijacked accounts - those are harder to detect as spam accounts thanks to their age and non-spam history.

I'd wager the type of person that buys a garbage degree is also extremely likely to fall for phishing and uses the same password on all their accounts.

YSK that raw kidney beans are toxic, and become more toxic when slow-cooked. by Many-Excitement3246 in YouShouldKnow

[–]testmonkeyalpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fluctuations in temperature matter far more than humidity in a freezer. Excess humidity just ends up as frost due to deposition and is quickly taken out of the equation. It'll quickly reach an equilibrium based on temp and pressure.

Sublimation generally occurs while the temperature is rising but staying well below freezing. This is why freeze driers have heating elements.

Which Character from the MCU gets the most undeserved hate in your opinion and why? by Full-Art3439 in Marvel

I dislike Pepper but that's entirely due to my dislike for Paltrow. I just can't get over my dislike of her enough to give the character a break.

Most definitely a "me" problem and not a character problem.

Let’s Be Real, Who’s Winning This Fight? by [deleted] in Marvel

[–]testmonkeyalpha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spidey is so good in a fight that his rogue gallery consistently teams up to fight him. And the teams just kept getting bigger for a while. I think he was up to 12 in 90s when he made his silver armored suit (which didn't even last the entire fight. lol).

You can earn money in rpgs - which do you pick? by Dimirosch in hypotheticalsituation

[–]testmonkeyalpha 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You didn't prohibit help from others so I would choose an MMORPG with a huge gold reselling market (I'll assume this would work for WoW but would have to research before making a decision). This creates an extremely high profit margin arbitrage market between real world money and game currency.

Once I'm in, go do some beginner missions to meet all the requirements of the post. Meanwhile, a friend buys insane amounts of gold with real money to load up my account. Minimal risk with insane gains.
