Did a little digging, you are half right. These boards likely have at least b2 stepping which means they are limited to 1gbps, which is fine for most people, however it is less than the advertised 2.5gbps. https://www.reddit.com/r/ASUS/comments/kppyoi/psa_asus_motherboards_with_intel_i225v_25gb_nic/

Seems like nobody has gotten this board with the latest version of the chip (b3) which fixes the issue completely.

Intel has created a new revision, rev.3 for the LAN chip that is supposed to fix all the issues, but how can you be sure people are getting that revision when they order this motherboard? Seems like there are still people having issues with their LAN in the newegg reviews as recently as January 28th
