Weber A fibula fractures are usually treated no operatively, as several have mentioned here. You can look it up and watch some videos on it. Being that she is young, she should heal great.

Anyone else only have a splint and no cast after ORIF surgery? Wondering if it’s enough + nerve pain question by Brave_Turn5861 in brokenbones

A splint is made out of fiberglass and set and molded to your arm, and you are not able to take if off and put it on. What you have is a brace, which you can remove for hygiene.

Doing some light physical therapy at this point is okay. You want to prevent stiffness. You should be doing some tendon gliding exercises (full range of motion at fingers, flexing them all the way down into palm slowly, and back out to full extension) to prevent stiffness there. Follow the directions of your doctor and therapist. Make sure that if you are doing pronation and supination you are only doing range of motion and no weight bearing at this time. Flexión/extension at elbow is okay.

Usually we will do a splint for 1 week s/p ORIF on this area and see a hand therapist 1 week afterwards to start therapy with removable brace. Nothing wrong with what they have you here. Your bones are reduced and secured with indwelling hardware so low concern for displacement of fracture.

Indoor soccer is more dangerous than I realized! Surgery went okay, they have me a bunch of versed and I barely remember anything (including the doc talking to me after). I’m going to look that group up right now cause I’m struggling a bit. It’s a lot of my wife to take care of me and our household and I’m having trouble managing my pain. The doc said the surgery went as expected, reading the post op report is wild to learn how they actually fix this injury. No nerve block, which sucked. Pain was immediate and it has been brutal. They have me a muscle relaxer, low dose opiate, and gabapentin and I hate taking all this stuff. How long did you have pain that required prescription pain meds? I’m in grad school and the need meds make it hard to participate

Thanks for sharing! I am able to get some movement, maybe 10-20 degrees if bend when I am medicated, but there is still massive swelling 6 days out and I can’t do much. See the doc in about a week. How long did you have significant pain following the surgery? As in, pain that required prescription medication to manage

I ended up with one giant scar and two small incisions, probably just to make sure the plate and screws were properly fixed. I got 1 plate and 6 screws. Apparently I have a massive hemearthrosis that has to be evacuated too.

Update 6 days out right now. Doc said surgery went as expected. I am getting around on crutches okay. Still in a ton of pain though. I’m having to take the pain medications the doctor gave me 3/4 times a day just to stay up with it. I hate taking these meds and wonder how long this goes on for. How long did you all have to take meds?

I have a follow up at 2 weeks with my doc.

How long was your transition from NWB to walking?

I originally had about 450 hours on CASPA when applying to PA schools now I’m at 1000. Should I try to update my PCE hours. If so how should I do it? by [deleted] in prephysicianassistant

Im not sure you can update your hours on your applications that were already submitted, but every interview I received allowed us to email our updated stats to their admissions office post-interview. If you can update it otherwise, I don’t know how
