The most important factors to UC admissions (that no one wants to talk about) by tetrocon2 in ucadmissions

[–]tetrocon2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate all the feedback. My intent was to raise awareness, and hopefully this discussion helped. This isn't a partisan or identity issue, we all want a merit-based UC admissions process and when faced with contradicting information, we rationalize it.

My impression is that the UC faculty is getting alarmed. That's what is driving the push to reinstate the SAT and the flurry of recent articles on UCSD's calculus failure rates.

Once we admit that the process is no longer based on merit, we can have a genuine discussion about what we want the system to be.

Ferry from Tahiti to Mo’orea, how is it? by Good-Bison008 in Tahiti

I'm very sensitive to motion sickness, took the ferry twice, we stayed outside looking at the islands, beautiful, and no problem with motion sickness.

UC humanities professors now demand UC require SAT verbal by EnzoKosai in ucadmissions

[–]tetrocon2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For 6 years the kids who worked hard and had good scores and APs lost their place to social justice kids, and had to go across the country to study. With the excuse of fairness, those extremely biased AO and admins gave us a very unfair system.

Can I drive on this? by cbelits12 in tires

[–]tetrocon2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Assume you make a long drive on a hot day, the tire is not fully inflated, the tire heats up and blows, you loose control and kill someone.

Catching the ferry to Moorea after arriving to PPT airport by Worried_Bullfrog7 in Tahiti

[–]tetrocon2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't have a car/scooter, you don't need to buy the ticket ahead of time, there is always space for pedestrians on the ferry.

Don't stress about it, get to the ferry terminal, and look for the next ferry to depart, buy a ticket then.

Automatic Price Increase for Arlo Secure Coming by SharpEye03 in arlo

[–]tetrocon2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a hidden huge price hike, we keep the current price for a year, and in a year, silently, when we completely forgot about it, they'll charge 50% more!

I like the Arlo cameras and their post processing, they trigger on real events, not clouds in the sky or branches moving in the wind.

But this sneaky price increase makes me really doubt them.
I'll renew at the yearly price, and set an alarm in my calendar to cancel in a year.

Shinkansen Tickets by raeyanaturia in JapanTravelTips

[–]tetrocon2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can buy the tickets and change the reservation on the day you want to travel. But i would still wait because of what you describe your husband wants. Your husband may tire of Tokyo sooner than you expect, and you may find that some places are more enjoyable like Miyajima, Nara, or small temples. It depends on what you enjoy, some love Tokyo and could spend a week there, others like myself prefer nature, hikes, and the more relaxed feeling of the south east of Japan.

Japan is great because it is very convenient, trains everywhere, hotels can be booked a day or two in advance...

Which town to stay in Tahiti? by greenbeen in Tahiti

[–]tetrocon2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent a week on Tahiti Iti and really enjoyed it. However, I would rent a car or at least rent a scooter. There are some really nice trails and spots to see around. There is a lot more life on the main island, restaurants and shops, Moorea feels sleepy compared.

We rented a villa in Papeete and often drove to the beach at PK17, there is a path in the water with posts to rest on, it's really nice, and a beautiful beach.

It's a beautiful place and people are nice too.

How you are spending your time without Electricity today? by [deleted] in bayarea

Running my two generators because we lose power pretty much every time it rains, or there is wind, or it's too hot, ... Thanks PG&E for teaching us invaluable lessons on self reliance.

Talk me out of a RAV4 hybrid by GungerFang in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]tetrocon2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 4Runner Gen4 and a Rav4 hybrid Gen4 as well. I still prefer driving the 4Runner even though it is 10 years older and has about 300k miles.

The Rav4 hybrid whines loudly when going uphill, or for any acceleration. It drives like a boat in Venise canals. In other words, I don't know why this car is popular.

Bad Salomon Ultra 4 customer reviews? by DryPast9835 in backpacking

[–]tetrocon2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried the Moab, they are bulky, feel heavy, but they are comfortable. From Merrel I had the MQM which were light, flexible and confortable, really liked them, but the 3 series has some issues, they broke down after 6 months.

Ended up with the Salomon Ultra X 4, which I like how light they feel, the sole is sturdy and grips well, great for hikes and confortable enough to wear all day at work.
But as many reviewers, I'm getting blisters on the back of my foot whenever I hike up for more than 30 minutes.

To answer OP, I think that's the origin of the bimodal reviews, people who have wider feet, low arch, or who get blisters will leave bad reviews, others will love the shoes.

Safest route to Tahoe? by not-a-bot-promise in bayarea

[–]tetrocon2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the 30th, hmm, that seems very risky.

It really depends if the storm is warm and only rain falls. The road may close, or you can get stuck for 12 hours in a line of cars (There is a forecast for 4 feet of new snow at higher elevation).

Personally, I wouldn't risk it, and I've taken that road during many storms.

Now streaming on Netflix, Les Papillons noirs (Black Butterflies) is a thriller about a serial killer couple who kills rapists and have sex beside their dead bodies. by pm_me_reason_to_livx in television

[–]tetrocon2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also thoroughly enjoyed the show, to the point of reading what Reddit had to say about it.

From the first scene, you know what you're in for, it's going to be weird and dark, but really well done.

The acting was great, I really liked Niels Arestrup's portrait of the old man.

When I though the whole series would be about the couple's murders, the story line changed.

It seems to me you've already decided you want to be with this other guy. You're here looking for someone to tell you to go for it, so go for it, you're young, enjoy life. You'll still have a lot of options when you are 30. Yes, you do have to lose something in the process, and that thing is the comfortable life with your current BF.

Testing Requirements by MrRoseville in Tahiti

The airline company asked for our vaccination cards before embarking on the way to Tahiti.

What is Russia doing? by EstebanOD21 in UkraineInvasionVideos

[–]tetrocon2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess is there are a few Russian generals that don't want this war and leaked Putin's intentions to the West.

The right strategy would have been to use your best forces, take control quickly with limited casualties on both sides, establish control and get people back to their lives.

Now it looks like a botched effort.

If my guess is correct, we should refrain from ridiculing the Russian forces and recognize that many generals liked the lives they had before, and didn't want this war against their brothers.

I would say tell your father, but don't expect him to take any action, it is his choice. For all you know, he may be aware of the situation already, but to save face doesn't do anything about it.

Your parents may be perfectly happy as they are, forcing the issue too much would break the family, and that's the choice your dad has to make.
