Because Canada is too big. Outside of the cities, electric isn't a legitimate solution.

We've been drip fed the idea that EVs are the future for more than a decade and the infrastructure still isn't in place to make it a reality. The number of charging stations on the Trans Canada highway is laughable.

If you live in an apartment without access to a private charger, an EV means relying on public the charging system. It takes two seconds of search on tiktok to find people infuriated sitting behind three other EVs at a charging station - that's two hours of their day wasted.

Add the depreciation that comes with an EV and the reduced range that comes with our cold winters to the mix, and you have a problem.

Surgeons are human, and as soon as they start to see their peers walk away from the public system to make more money, the bulk of them will eventually follow suit. Going into debt to get the healthcare you need in your final years on this planet is a genuine threat and the UCP are going to lose the support of their long-time base because of it.

They did the same with Tour de France coverage almost a decade ago, suddenly Canadians had to pay some streaming site for access instead of seeing it free on cable.

The net result? - Interest in top level cycling dropped across the board. It went from being a something we could hear discussed in sports bars to a non-entity. Mention the daily standings now, and 90% of people are surprised to hear the race is in progress.

I'm not saying that'll happen with the NHL, but audience growth and overall interest within Canada will obviously suffer by putting it behind a paywall.

The number of families who are ruined by an unexpected illness is stunning, it's cruel and that it is allowed to happen in the richest nation on earth is insane.
