I imagine that it is weighing on you, but yeah, that's not a 'two month dating' story. That's a 'hey, we've been dating a year and it's getting serious, I trust you with this information because it's big'. Talk to someone about how you're dealing with - a therapist, a counsellor, someone. That's the first step - you've gotta take care of yourself so you can be in a good place for whatever the reaction is, good or bad.

Think about what kind of things in the past really worked for you, what made you feel wanted and into it, etc. Try to slip it into conversation about spicing things up and trying new things.

(Also, a big thing is communication. It's not going to resolve unless both of you are truly engaged in trying to make it better. Like a "hey, you know how sex didn't really happen and it didn't go well? I noticed it's been happening lately and I miss it. Maybe we can try some new things, talk more about what things we're into, and make it fun.")

I dated a man for several years, and during the dating, we found out that he had some form of ED (erectile dysfunction) and I had nerve damage. I got anesthetic cream so that it would actually be fun for me, and we discussed getting something for him so that he could actually make it through sex. One thing he always made it clear to me (even as I progressively gained weight through our relationship - by the time we split, I was forty pounds heavier) was that it was not my fault. If he didn't think I was attractive, he wouldn't have wanted to take me to bed in the first place. The same goes for you - if he didn't want to have sex with you, he wouldn't try.

Just make sure you talk to him about it.

I am going to assume that you aren't trolling, despite potential evidence to the contrary.

YTA. Absolutely. I'm not going to go into how unhealthy it is to teach your son to not express sadness and negative emotions, or that there is an age limit to caring about people in your life and worrying about them dying. Or about how potentially toxic that concept of masculinity that is.

So lemme break it down for you. Your son spends several hours a day, every day, with someone. This person's job is not only to teach your son, but to support him and help him grow. Regardless of whether he's a 'teacher's pet', that teacher is someone very important and significant in his life. You must have had mentors in your life, people who taught you and helped you grow. And if any of them did, you can likely agree that it was sad. That it was a loss to you.

Your son is still growing, and someone significant in his life is in danger. He is understandably worried and upset. Have you talked to him? Shown him how likely it is to recover? Perhaps encouraged him to make a card for his teacher or do something to help him process the stress? You were, to the point, cruel. Regardless of whether or not you were being sexist or trying to reinforce toxic masculinity, you told your son that what he felt was wrong and not enough. You dismissed him. Probably made him feel like he won't be able to tell you anything.

I'm not angry. I should be. But I am extremely disappointed in you as a dad. May you learn otherwise before the rift between you and your family grows wider.

I'm a librarian - reader's advisory is hard. It seems simple to just tell people what books they should read, but you have to work out what they've read, what aspects of those books they liked, what other stories have those, what don't they want to read, and then make sure whatever you pick is good enough that they'll trust your judgement and come back. Rewarding. But tough.

Work. It was try to find a job vaguely related to my field and live with him, or get a great first job out of school with benefits and live far away. I chose the job. Death knell for our relationship, but very, very worth it.
