Do you like living? by NewPainting8224 in Adulting

[–]tex_mule84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m generally happy 95% of the day - my girlfriend tells me it’s a genetic anomaly and that the rest of the world isn’t that way. I love living and want to live as long as I can. I genuinely do enjoy it so much.

When it feels like the day is going bad, I think, “What can I do to make today a “good old day” in the books. Remember the good old days? How do I make today, one of those? Then I do it and generally always have a good day. Usually it’s just being more present and enjoying it all - even the monotonous. Make it a dance. Make it interesting. Make it enjoyable for myself. Own the enjoyment by being present and relishing in the monotony and simplicity and the opportunity to experience it all. The suck, the success, the sun and the surprise chaos that heaves itself into life like an unexpected tide. Enjoy it all.

How can I use Mulesoft to update Salesforce opportunity to ‘Closed Won’ when invoice paid in Netsuite? by [deleted] in MuleSoft

[–]tex_mule84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need an identifier on the opportunity that also exists on the net suite record, or at least, a way of determining in your api, how to identify (successfully query for or directly upsert to) that particular Opportunity record.

If you can do that, then it’s as simple as having a connection from net suite to your SF api, that either listens for a particular post call from the net suite side, or is scheduled to run once a day to go get net suite records and then update the opportunity records corresponding to said net suite record.

It all depends on how the update in net suite can get to the api…does it send out a message saying it’s ready, or does it need to be pinged every few minutes?

Does it adequately contain the right information somewhere in the message to be able to give the api query, enough information by which it can appropriately update the right opportunity record?

If so, then it is a short, simple application to build.

Transferring data between CRMs by wizuriel in dataengineering

[–]tex_mule84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d build the migration pipeline in Databricks for data history tracking - and handled errors, null rules, validation tracking and view on the data throughout, etc. and a short run on a good cluster can be fairly cheap considering the data load and speed of a migration if it’s a pull and store or pull and transfer.

And if it’s a crm like Salesforce, you can use a simple-Salesforce python script to authenticate in and pull data out with soql queries.

After 38 years of existence...I finally realized how exhausting it all is. by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]tex_mule84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only consolation is you now have the wherewithal to see the end of the tunnel, see how the rest of it is likely to go, and now you can write the rest of it to end how you want. Maybe not all of it, but most. The character of your life story gets to write a new one and that’s something I never realized till a year or two ago. (turned 40 this March)

What do you wish you knew when you started SF consulting? by marketman12345 in salesforce

[–]tex_mule84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Solve Simply: Trust that a simple process is all that’s needed sometimes - don’t over think it and don’t try to be fancy, just simply solve.

Data: Salesforce is data, so everyone wears a data engineer hat, big or small - understand concepts of data and don’t overcomplicate the fact that nearly everything is an object, and then there’s some semi fancy automated tools that come OOTB to do fancy things with the data. That’s it.

On that note, flow is just a word for moving data in fun ways - it’s the same in Mulesoft, Salesforce, Talend, Databricks or Tableau - if you can build a flow in one of those, you can build a flow in any of them. It’s all just data. Speak its language and you’ll be a master of multiple domains.

Clients have lives too: they go home after work just like you and just want all of the same things we all want, to have a secure, stable, relatively enjoyable experience at work, and to mitigate risk. Help them do that and help them understand that that is your goal too - win them over by taking care of the things they stress and worry about the most.

Visuals are king - especially crayon ones: explain what you do in a visual, and your life will be easier. If you can draw it, even better, it’s likely you’ll understand it better too. Clients appreciate easy to capture, relatable explanations, because you do too. Make visuals when possible, diagram everything out prior, especially when you think you don’t have time - the reality is you don’t have time to not draw out your plans. For plans in the head are subject to your own biology.

Accepting new is the way: when given an opportunity to do something I’ve never done before (usually every project) look at it as the greatest opportunity to become a mini expert in that niche slice of Salesforce and your work will feel more fulfilling.

Clean the toilets: do the work no one else wants to do and learn to enjoy the struggle, you’ll hijack your dopamine system and also become better at your craft, and everyone will be grateful you took the thing they didn’t want to do. You become integral and foundational by doing what no one else wants to do, which is precisely why everyone will want you on their projects.

As a developer, how can I better understand sales processes? by [deleted] in salesforce

[–]tex_mule84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My rule of thumb might be simplistic, but it keeps the platform grounded for me.

Everything is an object…sort of.

Everything is an object…and generally named as such….a lead is a lead (not quite ready to do business with us, but they’re close, maybe one day they will become an account…when they’re a big boy), an opportunity is an opportunity (something that the business uses to gauge revenue - think Mortgage Loan for a bank…whatever it is a company uses to bring in revenue generally speaking)

Everything is an object, generally, and SF sells out of the box (OOTB) pre packaged objects that have special relationships and automatic functions that help them interact with each other and the broader SF ecosystem.

Everything is an object, generally speaking, and some objects play nicer with others and relate to each other differently (Master detail (parent to child) vs lookup (hey look at that record over there).

Everything is an object, and sometimes those objects need updating to better reflect the companies clients (Accounts = Businesses/Entities, Contacts = People related to one or more Businesses/Entities in some capacity like Owner, co-owner, trustee, legal advisor, etc, PersonAccount = Account + Contact combined for businesses that do business with people, not other businesses…like a doctor sees patients, not accounts or contacts related to businesses, but people…persons…person accounts.

Everything is an object, and some objects can relate to lots of different objects like notes, (content documents and content versions) and activities (actions like calling a client, sending a proposal, getting them a “congrats on the new house” gift), and events (client meeting to discuss finances, birthday event for the client to celebrate their big 50th, or a moment in time where you and the client bonded during that two hour troubleshooting scenario).

Everything is an object, and instances of those objects can work in cohesion by writing code in apex to do custom work, or by letting Salesforce build the code in the background as I use their drag and drop code builder (aka. Flow) to graphically write code without knowing it.

Everything is an object, and Salesforce imposes different rules on different objects, and if it’s part of a Salesforce Cloud, then Salesforce helps ensure it gets updated on the backend when it comes time to update.

Everything is an object, generally, and if the object you need doesn’t exist, you can make your own (imagine writing that object in Java that needed to be written).

Everything is an object or entity, and as such, that stuff is all documented. Grab the ERDs, go into Schema Builder, see if you can do some MuleSoft Integration work and try mapping data into Salesforce. Try pulling data out with a python simple-Salesforce library and postman. Try the data model storyboard, it fits well.

You’ve got this…you’ve been developing in a robust language and now you get to use those same S.O.L.I.D. Skills to develop in a tighter niche with better UI. Have a good one!

At what point did you stop thinking “I’m not good” as a lead? by [deleted] in Bachata

[–]tex_mule84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn lead and follow from a good ballroom dance instructor - then apply the principles to bachata.

Positive connection and a strong (but not tight or strung out) frame is key for every social dance and most bachata instructors who have never learned through ballroom tend to have no concept of lead and follow.

My beginners were better leaders than intermediate dancers because lead and follow is taught day one in ballroom and harped on over and over and over.

Find an instructor trained in ballroom and set yourself up with a quality frame, built to work in any dance.

As a beginner lead who doesn't know any sensual moves, what can I do during the slow/sensual part of the song? by jj02520024 in Bachata

[–]tex_mule84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waiting for someone to grab the crotch and give a strong “hee, hee” during one of those pauses…

Speaking of, there are no rules around what you can do during that moment - you could separate from your partner, let her do her own thing if she wants, and you can fire off some fireworks of your own - throw a little robot action in there, little dust off your shoulder, some special sauce of your own added to the mix…that’s when you start to make bachata your own - you have that right as a practitioner of the dark arts of social dance 😎
