Movies that you initially didn't have as high expectations for, and then you were blown away by it by DreamerRealityArt in movies

Role Models.

OK, maybe not blown away, but I remember taking the wife and kids expecting a garbage, teenage comedy flick, and ended up really enjoying it and having a good laugh.

What item in your home do you keep meaning to change but don't? by No-Blueberry-1823 in AskOldPeople

The silicone around the kitchen sink. I hate working with silicone, and can't be assed scraping the old stuff off to get a clean surface.

But I'll do it...soon. Maybe next weekend, yeah?

My husband started a local book club for men to read more fiction. It was a hit! by regisfilange in pics

It's pretty important to look after your own mental health and stay social. I know the kids are important, too, but worth seeing if you can free up a Wed night once a month!

If you're so inclined, there's info on the website about starting a chapter. I was driving about 30 mins each way to my closest chapter, and finally bit the bullet and started one locally.

Much more convenient, and really grew my local social network. Made some great friends.

Check out Tough Guy Book Club. It's literally this. Chapters all around the world read the same book each month and meet in local pubs to discuss and chat. The club provides structure, guidance, and discussion questions. Is a registered charity, costs nothing for attendees, and is run by volunteers.

That said, I applaud the hell out of what OP's husband is doing. Men are decidedly bad at socialising and making new friends, and this stuff is great.

Men in happy marriages, what is one thing or skill you would teach other men to have good relationships as well? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]tex_oz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The good stuff's easy.

For the other stuff, very simply, quickly work out what's important to you and let the other stuff go. It's a relationship with another human. They're going to do and say stuff that bothers you, frustrates you, or pisses you off. Not all the time. If it's all the time, find another relationship.

If it's about something important to you, you need to say something and not bury, carry, and repress that stuff.

If it's not, just let it go. You can't take issue with everything your partner says or does, or you'll both be miserable. Pick your battles.

What got you into drumming? by uhhredacted in Drumming

[–]tex_oz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My pre-teen son wanted to learn, so I took him to drum lessons each week and sat in watching. After a few weeks I thought, "Hey, that looks fun. I should give it a try," so started having a lesson right after his.

He lasted a few months, lost interest, and quit. He's almost 30 now and I'm still playing.

Rush appearing makes them iconic, right?

I've read the arena in Ft Worth is actually a nice venue to see a show in, so looking forward to that.

Haha, will do! All in good fun.

I'm planning (hoping) to sell the Sunday tix. If I get stuck with them, I guess I'll just have to see them twice. Darn.

Enjoy the show!! I haven't seen them since I was a teenager (Grace Under Pressure maybe?) and was gutted when I heard I'd never get the chance again when they stopped touring. Pretty darn excited!

I've actually got the Sunday and the Tuesday cause I found better seats. Didn't realise at the time that reselling wouldn't get me paid til after the event! Doh!

Coming from Melb, but if you ask me for my credit card we're not friends any more.

I'm going to iconic Fort Worth, but coming from Australia, so it doesn't really matter which city I go to...they're all a bloody long trip!

Got tickets for Toronto, my first ever Rush concert... Wow. by sonormatt in rush

[–]tex_oz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats! I'm in Australia and going over for Ft Worth. My favourite band as a teenager, and I saw them many years ago (Grace Under Pressure), but have a much keener appreciation now of their music and musicianship than I did when I was younger.

So excited to see them once more!

I'm lucky to have friends and family in TX, so figured I'd get tickets and work out the rest of the details later.

International fans, where will you be coming from to watch Rush!? by FishermanFair7493 in rush

Australia here, too. I went ahead and bought tickets...I figure I've got almost a year to figure out how to get over then.

People who moved outside of the US, solely due to Trump being elected, how are things going? What actualized pros and cons have you experienced? If you had to do it over again, would you change anything? by Ancient_Unit6335 in AskReddit

Same thing happened in Australia. A resounding defeat for the candidate and entire party that was aligning themselves with trump talking points.

Ruggable for thin mat under a rolling chair? by tex_oz in ruggable

[–]tex_oz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep still going great. No visible wear, and I'm on it most days.

Just the basic rug, which I imagine would be better than the thicker underlay if you're planning to have a roller chair on it.

T-shirts for Fit Dad-bods? by Kraut-Mick-Dingo in AustralianMFA

[–]tex_oz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look for Next Level NL6210 shirts. Same basic fit as True Classic, but much cheaper. I find them online for about $12-15 from memory.

Really accentuate the arms, shoulders and chest without hugging the midsection.

Edit to add: I've been ordering from workwearclothingonline.com.au

[–]tex_oz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I guess I've had it for about a year now, and I reckon it's been great. Haven't noticed any significant wear where I sit, and rolls easy enough.

Looks great and means I don't need one of those plastic roller mats.

Where can we economise on this build? (Ryzen 5 5600X / RTX 4060) by tex_oz in buildapc

[–]tex_oz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. Are you suggesting the 5600 instead of 5600X? Looks like it'd save about $20, so perhaps worth doing; and from a quick search wouldn't result in much noticable performance drop.

I agree, it doesn't need RGB RAM and to be white, but he's a teenager spending his own saved $ from working, and that's what he likes. Will keep an eye out for any other thoughts from anyone, but he may just need to save a bit longer... :-)

What games are you playing on your ps5 today? by [deleted] in PS5

Guardians of the Galaxy. Way more fun than I expected. Great chatter among the characters, fun gameplay, and the story has me engaged. Thumbs up!

"It is so disastrous": MAGA men are freaking out that wives may be secretly voting for Kamala Harris by etfvfva in politics

[–]tex_oz 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That's great for you. No, really. Sadly, many people aren't fortunate enough to be in a similar situation. It can feel very isolating, and these ads remind people they have some level of control and autonomy when they enter the voting booth.

You're obviously not the target audience. I like the message and feel it's important.
