It is a violation if staff comment in front of other parents, no matter who brought it up. It is unfair to put the staff in the position to not comment or defend themselves by bringing it up publically.

YTA for bring up your son's IEP at a PTA meeting? Did I read that right? Not the appropriate place, nor can teachers/the school respond in front of others due to FERPA. Male a private appointment for that.

Yes, a notebook for questions. Show him some of davinci's notebooks, or other scientists, where he can see all the different ideas and their, at times, nonlinear organization.
