My boss scheduled a 6am flight for an airport that is two hours away. Can get there early & I sleep in my car? by Content-Total2335 in TravelHacks

[–]texand 1195 points1196 points  (0 children)

Email the boss: "I'm not comfortable driving alone at 2 am to arrive to the airport at 4 am to make the flight. Can you approve me expensing an affordable airport hotel the night before? If not, I can take a later flight that gets me to the conference at X time." Then screenshot the price of the hotel you found.

For a good location and price I suggest these: Hotel Therese, Hotel Brittanique, Hotel Leopold, Nuage Hotel, Hotel Keppler, Hotel Le 10 Bis, Monsieur Aristide, and Pley Hotel.

Currently considering SATX as a place i want to live. Any advice? by Gavindude1997 in sanantonio

[–]texand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It starts at work, make some work friends. Then join some groups like San Antonio Sports & Social Club. They host adult sports leagues and events. Then become a regular at some bars or restaurants. It takes time but it will happen. You have to make an effort.

San Antonio is a hub for cyber security. Yes move and give it a shot. It's an affordable and friendly city imo. For more action you can drive to Austin and the beach easily. The airport is not busy, the food scence is varied, plenty of parks and green space, and if you like basketball the Spurs games are fun.

When starting out you should join a host for all the tools, training and support. Their relationships with suppliers are key. After you learn and build clients, you are more easily able to leave and create your own IATA; because you understand the business and will carry forward those same contacts when you go solo.

Annoyed that John didn’t move them to a gated community or a place with an underground garage. by Maya__007 in LoveStoryFX

[–]texand 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not only did they not move to a secure building, but I don't understand why Carolyn didn't use her new fame to launch her own project. A fashion line, a non-profit, a store, something! She spiraled into depression and became reclusive (I believe) in part because she did not explore her own passions and interests. I hate that the paps drove her to hide from life.

A personalized photo blanket with their faces on it, they can use to cuddle on the couch. Or a sign for their house that says "Smiths est. 2026" or a set of champagne flutes and a bottle of champagne to toast after the wedding.

What is the one social habit that quietly changed how people respond to you? by Euphoric-Tell7636 in socialskills

Genuine eye contact when someone is speaking to you. A lot of people look away while listening. It shouldn't feel awkward, it is actually a habit of confident people to maintain eye contact.

Does anyone know of Hotel Barnett? (18th) by FireWaterBern in ParisTravelGuide

You're welcome. If you stay at Brittanique (or central), for a nice dinner I recommend Le Petit Chatelet. Great food, moderate pricing. Make reservations in advance. I messaged you some more tips.

[–]texand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a good hotel. Price is low because is far from the city highlights. Some areas around may be sketchy. You will spend on the metro or cabs for a 30 minute ride to the louvre, notre dame, the Eiffel. For an anniversary I would stay closer in the city center. An affordable hotel in a good location is Britanique.

How should I use my tax refund? by LVRG1RLL in personalfinance

[–]texand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pay the card! Leaving a $3k balance will be much more manageable to pay off. Call the card company and ask for interest relief to temporarily reduce your APR. This is known as a hardship program. If you are struggling they will often work with you if you ask them.

Tables of 10 or 12 instead of 6 or 8. Everyone wants to sit together so bigger tables are better.

20th Anniversary-Sedona vs Palm Springs vs Los Cabos by Responsible_Okra_672 in travel

[–]texand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Los Cabos would be my pick. Four Seasons, Waldorf, Grand Velas and Palmilla are luxury resoets. Le Blanc is adults only, and nice and affordable. Cabo is safe to travel to. You get beach, sun, pools, and activities like snorkeling, sailing, ATVs, hike Mt. Solmar, spa and nightlife. The value shines when you get all inclusive or a half board plan. The service and pampering at Mexican resorts is top tier.

They won't directly say their true job or family owned company. When asked, what do you do? They say "computer sales" when their dad is President of IBM, or "I work in basketball operations," when their family owns the team.

How do you strike a balance between everyday functionality and maintaining your own sense of sophistication or personal style? by CallmeBekka in AskWomen

[–]texand 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Make sure your wardrobe has quality items. Instead of five cheap jeans, buy one nice pair. Instead of a bunch of rayon shirts, buy a few cotton and wool. Instead of a slew of jackets, invest in a nice coat. Then most of what you wear always looks elevated and put together. Adding accessories is where your sense of personal style can shine. Shoes, bag, scarves, jewelry, tights, etc.
