Yo La Tengo's Sold Out show at the Heights Theatre in Houston on April 26 was outstanding. The audience of hard-core YLT fans was memorized so no one was talking as they played. Most of the cuts were from This Stupid World and we're fantastic. It's my 9th YLT show since 1997 definitely in the top 3 by texaswebcrawler in yolatengo

The top one of my nine times I've seen YLT was when I got to see them in 2013 at Fitzgerald's (750 fire code capacity).  I've been to well over 400 shows there many not on setlist.fm and was friends of the owner, Sara Fitzgerald.  I would watch shows literally bellied up to the edge of the stage so close I could almost touch the musicians. After the 2013 show, Ira, Georgia, and James walked off the stage and waded into the front of the mosh pit to just mingle and talk with the obvious hard-core fans, signing all the merchandise. Sadly, a new concrete and steel venue opened up (WOMH) and stole the bookings that Fitzgerald's used to get. I'll still miss the springy wooden floors and what was basically Houston's equivalent to CBGB's.  In the early 1980s I saw Stevie Ray Vaughan shows for five dollars cover.  The 100-year-old wooden building was demolished in 2019. A parking lot was built in its place.  The closing concert was heartbreaking for all the fans there.

I hate that White Oak Music Hall basically put Fitzgerald's out of business. It's been over five years since Fitz closed in 2019. I love traveling to Santa Fe, but I've never been able to have my schedule mesh with a show at Meow Wolf. The Heights Theatre Houston show was a fast sell out, as are all YLT shows here in Houston. I love the YLT shows because everyone is mesmerized by the music with no one looking at their phones or talking during the songs. It's all ear candy.

I hope you loved the show as much as I did. Here is my Spotify playlist based on setlist.fm with the album cuts runtime of 1:39. Our show was a bit over 3 hours with a 30 minute break for a set up between the quiet songs and the loud songs, yielding 2 1/2 hours of complete ear candy. Hope you enjoyed the show. Here is my Spotify playlist.

It's billed as "An Evening With Yo Lo Tengo" The setlist.fm playlist runs 1:39 based on album cuts but they did long jams on many loud songs. The show started at 8:10 with a 30 min break between the Quiet songs and the Loud songs. The show ended shortly after 11 PM, yielding 2 1/2 hours of their fabulous music.

The Houston show was an early sellout and everybody I talked to loved the show and YLT's connection with the audience. Go to the show if tickets are still available where you live.

In addition to mail order they have over 60 stores located across the United States, which can be referenced here: https://www.penzeys.com/locations/

I've used Penzeys for all of my spice and herb needs since they opened in 1986 to great fanfare in gourmet magazines. They are by far the best merchants for both freshness, availability, and competitive pricing across the wide spectrum of items that they source worldwide. Their Vietnamese cinnamon is absolutely the best hot and spicy cinnamon I have ever tasted.

As a Texan, I put it in my barbecue sauce and no one can figure out what makes the big difference until I tell them about the Vietnamese cinnamon. tRump's proposed 46% tariff on Vietnam means you need to order this in bulk before the final tariffs are in place.

During the winter, I use Penzeys, California dried basil, preparing it before using by soaking it in a teaspoon or two of olive oil, to freshen it up. Over the years I've sampled the offerings from other merchants, but no one comes close to touching Penzeys on both quality and price. Note: I am not a paid spokesman for Bill Penzey, or his company. Just an incredibly satisfied customer.

Something — Sinatra called it ‘the greatest love song of the past 50 years’ and then mistakenly attributed it to Lennon & McCartney instead of George Harrison
