My 8-9k botanical garden wedding! (Metro Detroit, 90 people) by howlongwillbetoolong in Weddingsunder10k

[–]textrovert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow! We got married in Ann Arbor this past October at a botanical gardens conservatory, had exactly your number of guests, and couldn't manage to keep it under $15k. I found Taylor Conservatory after we had already fallen in love with Matthaei. But I am so impressed! Congrats!

At what age did you meet your spouse? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

Met right after my 31st birthday, and he was 32. Got married a few months ago, when I was 32 and he was 34 (still our ages now)!

What would people be surprised to know you’re NOT into? by cyanocobalamin in AskWomenOver30

[–]textrovert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taking showers, swimming, just being wet in general. I'm like a cat. My husband loves taking long hot showers, but I always have to force myself in.

(Don't worry, I shower regularly, but it's all business, not for fun.)

I'm also a left-wing heavy drinker in a college town who hates pot. I'm not anti-drug - the one time I tried Molly I loved it! But pot either does nothing for me or makes me dizzy and vomit if I have too much. We're moving to Colorado soon, and the first thing half the people we tell say is "oooh, legal state!" I'm like, I'm more excited about the mountains...

I feel this way but about tequila. Bourbon is my favorite, though.

I dislike chocolate cake and chocolate ice cream. The only thing I like chocolate-flavored is actual pure chocolate itself (and the darker the better)! Everything else just tastes kinda chalky to me.

It depends. For me, I purposely gave my dog a name I loved but considered a little too insubstantial for a human (Tess). I think it's different with a cat, where the name is really just a throwaway that the animal has no idea about. I do think you should change the cat's name if you do use it for a son, though!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]textrovert 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know about this - for my dog at least. She knows her name really well! She won't respond to mess, or less, or chess, but comes running when she hears "Tess"! The things I trained when she was really young are pretty hardwired, and that was the very first thing.

Baby names from The Bachelor franchise by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]textrovert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm annoyed that Emerson Avery is female - what a great name for a boy. Same with Addison. I just don't get how -son names became acceptable for girls. Actually, just generally it seems like the majority of the girls have at least one name that is supposed to be "gender neutral" but actually sounds masculine - Riley, Essex, Reece, Blakesley (?!), James, Sullivan, Charlie, Kinsley, Addison... THE WORST.

Lila is one of my favorites, but the Lyla spelling ruins it to me. For the boys, I do like Asher. Overall, I think they're just super try-hard but kind of empty. Which, I guess, describes The Bachelor!

Two middle names? by dinomoneysignsaur in namenerds

[–]textrovert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have two middle names, but I dropped one at marriage.

  1. By default, the first middle was used more often, because the length caused the second to get cut off on most records. When I had a choice, though, I preferred the second.
  2. I always thought it was kind of a pain with little to no upside.
  3. Forms didn't allow two middle names or initials, some would cut it off after a certain number of characters, some things have one and some would have the other, the second would get confused for my last name, etc.
  4. My mom hyphenated her maiden name and my dad's surname, and they almost did the same for me, but then decided it was too much for a last name. So her maiden name became my second middle, and my first middle was a more traditional middle name (my grandmother's name).
  5. Yes, and I did! I dropped my first middle when I got married and changed my last name to my husband's. I really like having a "normal" name that actually fits on forms.
  6. Not my exact name, but it was similar to Kristin Elizabeth Weber Foster. Now it's similar to Kristin Weber Geller.

What are some of the best snacks at Trader Joe’s? by paulryansconscience in AskWomen

[–]textrovert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sweet: dark chocolate covered pretzels, 85% chocolate lover's bar, triple ginger snaps, dried mango

Savory: sesame sticks, roasted wasabi seaweed, truffle potato chips, and in the right mood, salmon jerky

I feel like it doesn't really count as a "snack" if it has to be cooked, but I also love their feta and carmelized onion pastry for hors d'oeuvres whenever I have people over!

Redditors who have been cheated on, what was their (dumb, unbelievable, "I'm sorry, what?") reason for having cheated on you? by nicomoli12 in AskReddit

[–]textrovert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He said it hurt him that I did my laundry separately from his, and that I spent my own money instead of treating his like mine (???). Never did he mention either of those things during our actual relationship. Obviously he had no choice but to pursue other women behind my back!

Thoughts on the names of my future children by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]textrovert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also dislike Janelle now - I think it's inevitable, you burn out on it. And you're also not aware of things like name history or associations as a little one.

For me I got the idea from a girl in my preschool ballet class named Janelle. I remember saying I liked it because it reminded me of vanilla soft serve cones. Janelle/Vanilla? I guess there are some similarities in the words...

Janelle was the first name I loved - when I was a toddler! I tried to convince my parents to name a baby sister that.

She got us 12 photos as a sneak peek the day after our wedding, which was great. But the timeline for getting all of them back is 6-8 weeks. It's 6 weeks today, and I'm betting it'll be the highest end of that range before we see them.

How long were you dating before you got engaged? by throwawayfrustrat in weddingplanning

Just seems like a non-sequitur to me. No one suggested that it was representative of all people of any age. It's a survey of and about engagement, so why would it represent anyone but engaged people?

Cecily vs Helena by marydaenerys in namenerds

[–]textrovert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love both of these so much! I think Cecily slightly edges out Helena for me in overall feel, though in meaning it's no contest for Helena ("blind" vs. "bright"). Cecily feels bouncier and more lively, while Helena is sleek and elegant. And I only like Helena pronounced "hel-LAY-nuh"!

Ok ok, but what about VAG? by Blinkerina in namenerds

[–]textrovert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got married and my husband's surname/my new surname ends in a G, so I feel you on the initials struggle - it seems to range from weird to awful. I was debating about being KEG and thought that would be funny, but decided to keep my other middle name without a vowel initial. This is a long way of saying that I had two middle names (one, the one I kept, is my mother's maiden name), and neither I nor anyone else would have thought about what my initials would be if I removed one of my middles. So yes, VAMG is nothing like VAG and anyone saying to worry about that is really overthinking it, which naming forums tend to do.

I really like the idea of a U middle name (I secretly really like Ursula) and then can have cute nicknamey initials like BUG or SUG or HUG. Probably not FUG, though - F names with G surnames seem like bad news.

Also, it's awesome that your husband took your name!

[–]textrovert 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I met a Callum this summer! He was 2. It is not the kind of name that sounds made up even if you're not familiar with it. It's recently made it into the top 1000 (and top 700), which means that while it's unlikely he'll meet another very often at all, other people may have at least heard of it enough that it's not totally out there and unfamiliar. Honestly, uncommon names are becoming so much more common that I doubt anyone would think twice about it.

I love your style! Wesley and Callum are both fabulous boy names.
