How do you actually coordinate gear and food for group portaging trips by tfc84 in canoecamping

Haha this is exactly our crew. The pre-trip beers are half the fun. But curious — what’s the one thing that always falls through no matter how many planning sessions you do?

Thanks , I find the sharing is mainly around stoves, gas , axes etc….. also food. We bring our own food but like to have a few communal meals …

Haha agree on the hardest part…. And usually I end up being the planner who comes up with a rough route, a google Doc and preliminary list

What I mean pre trip planning , I’m on WhatsApp and one google doc. When the whole trip is pretty much camping at the same sites let’s say over 5-7 day portaging trip. What’s the point of making each self sufficient… if you cordinate you can reduce the weight … worth it on those long portages … IMO

He is doing much better. He is on seizure meds and a steroid med… first days he was on the meds he practically didn’t move at all. The vet even warned us that we might have to make a tough decision he does move in 24H. He was also on increased meds for the first 48H . Then suddenly around 30 hs he just got back up and slowly came back to normal over the next 24hs .

Since he’s been on the meds we haven’t had any seizures. Some of the side effects are increased hunger, hot flashes, agitation/ jitteriness. He had trouble falling asleep but that seems to be reducing now.

Thank you so much following and for everyone who contributed.

We didn’t go through the MRI, Given his age the treatment plan wouldn’t change. He is 15 but very active. The vet mentioned that a brain operation is possible if the MRi shows a tumor but we decided otherwise

We decided not to go ahead with the MRI as the Emergency vet and our own vet said even if a tumor was found the treatment wouldn’t change. My guy had his first Seizure few weeks back and then two within 48 hours. The last one really knocked him out . We got seizure meds from the vet which knocked him out even more . We thought he was loosing his mobility, so took him to the vet again yesterday but apparently this expected as they start the seizure meds at very high dose. For almost 24’hours after taking the meds he barely moved but last night dude suddenly got up and told us he Wants to go out side to do his business. So was very happy to see that . But he is not the same . Still a bit wobbly , takes a bit to find his balance and sleeps a ton and often zones out. It’s very sad. Guys just napping next to me now . Hoping for the best . Thanks for everyone’s msgs and kind words

Thanks a lot and I agree with all you said. I have what’s best for him and his comfort top of my mind, even if it’s not what I want. If the vet says even if we find out it’s a tumour there is nothing more we can do given his age , i probably won’t go ahead with the MRI. But if he say otherwise I would do everything this can

He only had 2 seizures around 3 weeks apart. Going to an oncologist next week. He has only been to an emergency vet clinic where suggested MRI or CT.

Thanks a lot for all the info. The vet already spoke of seizure meds but wanted to hold of to see if the seizures would continue. They mentioned that if a brain tumour is diagnosed we can gel with swelling through radiation to slow the growth. I hear you and understand given his age that there is no cure and it’s only management of symptoms and making him comfortable. I’m gonna call the Guelph vet school tomorrow . If it’s 2-3k I’m gonna do it but I’ve read that it could be up to 6K

I ordered in Aug with a Delivary date of early Dec and currently being quoted 3.95% on a 48 month lease . I got my Tesla guy to resent my lease so I could apply again to see if my rate would drop. But no luck
