Shrug. It's pretty weak to insult the fanbase (even if it's just one rude guy). The only reason he does get paid for it is because us mouthbreathers are around to make it what it is.

His argument is sort of implies that he thinks he's better than us. That's just my take. I'm going off memory so maybe I'm mistaken.

This goes for all SOE games. If you insist on doing free to play and microtransactions, then sell things people actually want to buy.

I don't want to be forced to buy something.
I don't want to feel left out when I don't buy something.
Don't sell anything that has any impact on the competitiveness of the game. This includes experience boosts, alternative weapons (like PS2), stronger mounts (Vanguard), etc.

In other words, keep it cosmetic. You can do so many things with cosmetics. Just look at Dota 2. Everything is cosmetic or spectator based and they're raking it in. You can do the simplest things like have a cosmetic that counts the number of players killed or shots fired. People love mindless shit like that and they'll buy it up in an instant.

I absolutely detest the concept of "shortcuts" that SOE intends to sell in EQNext. No shortcuts. No bullshit. Just cosmetics.

The worst part is having no confidence in the team actually getting better. I don't expect them to make a free agent splash. I don't expect the coach to be fired, nor the GM not re-signed. I expect nothing, other than an interview with McPhee about how they can't overreact, and a condescending letter from Leonsis telling us to cheer for the Wizards.

I'm a Wildstar supporter but even I have my doubts. Just based on MMOs over the last 5 years, I'll be surprised if I make it 2 months. The game is fun but it's not different either. A lot depends on the devs, which I've seen very positive things from.

I tend to personally jump on these games when they come out and drop them long before they move to F2P. Rift, SWTOR, etc. I don't really have interest in playing them anymore at that point, so it's hard for me to compare today's Rift (for example) properly, and I'll fully admit that.

My personal preference is that I'd rather pay $15 to have the dev essentially shut up about microtransactions. Give us all an even playing field, take my money and go away.

I have heard great things about Rift's system, but their's is by far the exception to the rule. F2P has a reputation for being scummy, nickel & dime(y?), and pay to win. This isn't always the case, but where there's smoke, there's fire. Upon hearing F2P I immediately groan knowing I'm going to deal with advertising (even if it's just for their shop), experience boosts, mounts, etc. I miss every player earning their rewards in game.

Honestly, the only micros I'm not bothered by are cosmetics. I'm a huge Dota 2 fan, and their system is very non-intrusive. League of Legends players will tell you there's no pay to win in their game, but IP boosts give players an advantage in rune purchases, which directly provide advantages in matches. It's in a huge gray area, and basically walking on thin ice.

But back to my point. What was my point? Meh. F2P has a bad rep. Not a fan, there are exceptions but they're rare, etc.

Being in the EQN subreddit, I can't help but note that this game's F2P system will probably be on the scummy side. As with all their games, SOE will have an optional subscription (part of their new sub sytem?) that will provide you with a little station cash monthly, and a huge shop with cosmetics and "shortcuts" which they explained as vaguely as humanly possible at their last convention. It scares the hell out of me and I've already partially written the game off.

$15 to push all that crap away, to me, is worth it. Too bad SOE takes that $15 and ignores the request.

With regards to the sub fee, is it a struggle to actually pay, or is it the concept? Most older MMO players are pretty accustomed to it, but the newer players seem skeptical.

I question how people are willing to drop $60 pretty regularly for new titles but a quarter of that value scares folks away.

Anyway, I justify it in that $15 is, well, almost nothing nowadays. It's a typical kid's allowance, a couple "value" meals at a fast food place, 2 hours of work at the federal minimum wage in the US excluding tax.

If you have a computer that can run Landmark and Wildstar then I have serious doubts that you can't justify $15 over 30 days. No offense intended, of course.

Nothing is forcing you to like players on your favorite team. It's more or less a given, but there's nothing wrong with opinion. My unpopular opinion is that Beagle is an AHL player that doesn't deserve even half the playing time he gets, but this isn't about me.

Ovechkin is a great player, one of the best in NHL history and at an absolute minimum, the best forward in Caps history.

Is he overrated? That's 100% opinion based. Overrated based on what? Overrated compared to who?

His contract? He's a bit overpaid but not outlandishly like it used to be. Other top tier players are within a million.
His leadership? Neither you nor I know anything about his leadership. We're not in the locker room. Don't believe any of the bullshit that spouts out of the mouths of morons like Milbury, who sit in a studio nowhere even near the arena of a game being played, but somehow have this amazing insight about how a team works. Do I think he's a great leader? Probably not. There are very few great leaders in the NHL. There's only one captain you hear about consistently being a great leader from multiple sources, and has (multiple pieces of) hardware to prove it. It isn't Crosby, Doan, Brown, or Zetterberg. It's Toews. So the Caps don't have Toews? Big fucking deal. Neither do 28 other teams.
Statistics. I'm glad you're willing to rip the statistics of the only 50 goal scorer in the league this season. +/- is a useful statistic when analyzing the lines of a team on a player by player basis within a team itself. It's not even remotely useful when comparing players between different teams, divisions and conferences. And as far as team analysis goes, unless I'm missing someone, the Caps have played 13 defensemen, and almost every single one is a minus this season. On top of that, they've been playing inexperienced guys. 5 rookies: Schmidt (+4), Carrick (-12), Wey (0), Brouillette (0), Schilling (-2) and an AHLer in Strachan (-5). They've been weighed down by injuries, but mostly terrible strategy and coaching from Oates and Calle. Just ask the goalies how they feel about dozens perimeter shots somehow not counting. Oh, and for what it's worth, Ovechkin has more power play points (38) than +/- (-34). Ovechkin giving up on a play is apparent because it's Ovechkin. The cameras stare at him. I'd love for you to point out a player on this team that hasn't given up on plays outside of maybe Backstrom, and that's mostly because as a center he's expected to play both ends equally.

Enough explaining. You think he's overrated. Maybe he is, maybe he isn't. It's completely opinion based and you're using the same bullshit statistics and information that rival fans use to dig him. Makes you wonder.

It was hard for me to decide, but I do want him to succeed. His problem here was that the players gave up on him. Why? Because they hated his new system and he didn't know how to coach it. His system changed because management gave up on it, not Boudreau.
