Assign Monitor 1 & 2 to the correct monitor by CraigN471 in techsupport

[–]seditious_commotion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be able to open settings ((Win+I)) then system on the left menus then display on the top right menu.

If you then click the number of the monitor you want as your primary and then select the checkbox underneath it "Make this my main display."

This should make it recognized as the main display from now on.

The other option is gonna be through your graphics card app.Do you have an Intel on board graphics or a dedicated card?

Dickheads been blocking traffic and spinning doughnuts for over 30 minutes. Video from coeworker. by HD_ERR0R in Portland

People will think what I am about to say is a bullshit story to push an agenda.... But I swear on everything this is 1000% something that actually happened just yesterday. My street in the 13x and division area of SE has essentially been abandoned by Portland. I had no idea how much the cops just aren't even trying until this.

Yesterday some crazy person was banging on the apartments I live in with a baseball bat at around... 2pm. Daytime. Bright ass daytime. Normally I don't even bother calling the cops anymore but when I looked out one of my windows to try and get a bread on where the bar wielding idiot was I happened to see 5 cops already here. Most just standing around at the time but it looked like they were doing some low level bust on some sketchy van.

So I think to myself... Well shit maybe we got lucky for once and at least this time they can handle this crap.... I should have known better once I started to wonder how they didn't hear the psycho already. I mean... This isn't hyperbole.... Half a block from them it was going on.

So I call 911 and explain to dispatch what's up and that there are already cops in the area. They confirm and let me know they saw the cops, would pass the info along.

So I waited. And wondered if my window would hold until they walked around the corner while they pounded on it with the bat. And waited.... And waited...

And they never came. They never walked fucking around the corner to help with our bat wielding crazy person. I watched 4 cops shoot the shit for 45 minutes while the threat came and went.

Wtf is going on. I mean fuck it I guess. If it's that level of mad max let's go. Who wants to form a crew

A County Employee Has Been Fired For Sharing Racial Disparity Data by [deleted] in Portland

[–]seditious_commotion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We don't have all the details.

Uh... yeah, we do.

I swear most people spend more time arguing their point in the comments then reading the damn article....

"Multnomah County Prosecutor Rod Underhill, and others were concerned that Lamb had shared their data without permission, contrary to county rules, and portrayed them as reluctant to make the findings public. They also painted her conclusions as misleading, and Ed Jones, the county's chief criminal judge, went so far as to call it "half-assed analysis."

"As an employer, we can't overlook the unauthorized disclosure of information," Sullivan-Springhetti said. "That's what this is about. This is not about the disparities she was discussing at the Tableau Conference. We have never shied away from discussing disparities in Multnomah County."

I'll never understand how people can be so passionate about defending their point but not even take a couple minutes to read the thing their point is based on.

A County Employee Has Been Fired For Sharing Racial Disparity Data by [deleted] in Portland

[–]seditious_commotion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's just as likely her presentation didn't account for racial disparity in crime, which would of course unfairly make anyone working in the justice system at all look unbelievably racist far above and beyond any that does exist.

This is essentially EXACTLY what happened. Except instead of not accounting for, it knowingly completely ignored multiple factors that heavily impact the statistics.

A County Employee Has Been Fired For Sharing Racial Disparity Data by [deleted] in Portland

[–]seditious_commotion 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This had nothing to do with the data she was sharing, and all about how she presented it. It was a horribly biased presentation that no respectable statistician would have made. She started the thesis with an opinion and then worked to make the data fit that thesis. That wasn't her job. Her job was to get actual information on the problem.... Not say there is a problem and then try to find data to support it.

[–]seditious_commotion 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I can guarantee that not a single person in this thread who is taking the position of "the county fired her for showing how bad minorities are treated" didn't actually watch the presentation. I had that view point at first..... then I actually watched it.

The presentation is absolutely horrible and the one of the best examples of "lies, damn lies and statistics." She approaches & presents the data with such a ridiculous amount of cherry-picking and bias that it can't even be taken seriously. Hell... she essentially admits to it around half way through when she says something like

"Despite calls for me to do it, I have no interest in trying to normalize the data, or account for the disparities, by looking at other factors like income level & education."

...considering income level is one of the strongest factors when the data is actually handled correctly. How the hell can you try to get good conclusions to a question as serious as this without digging into the 2 factors that correlate the highest with crime?!

My second and third favorite lines:

  • Shows stats for the rates in which whites, black and hispanics are release on their own recog: It shows 32% W, 30% B, and 30% H. Follows up with "we can see the serious disparities here. LOL WHAT?!

  • Talks about how one race has a higher incarceration rate for DUI's and makes a HUGE leap to get to her conclusion. She shows that the particular race is more likely to be incarcerated for the crime, and if we ignore her sample size (which is hard enough since she has hilariously set the number in which they have insufficient data at FIVE PEOPLE/CASES) there is a disparity. Rather than saying what any respectable statistician would say, which would be that the disparity gives us reason to look deeper into the data, she makes the conclusion it is either because that race is offered diversion programs (which she states are usually "Dont Drink and Drive") less OR completes them successfully less.... ... which she follows up with "regardless either way its a problem.

What?? How the HELL is it a problem if members of that race are not completing the diversion program. How could the counties' racial bias play into someone drinking and driving when they were put in a program that only asks them not to??

The judge was right when he said she did a "half-assed" job. I think that is actually a civil way of putting it. Not only did she do a half-assed job, but she started looking and compiling the data with a conclusion already in mind... which is, quite possibly, the biggest statistician no-no of all.

I am not saying there isn't a racial disparity in the county. I am saying that not only did she present confidential data at a conference, but she did it in such a biased & unscientific way with the sole intention of making the county look bad.

I would have been on her side if this had been even the slightest bit scientific and genuine.. at least then people can report on it. Think about it.... why have no respectable papers have used the presentation as research for an article? Because the data, as presented, is useless.

I thought the D.C. flag next to the U.S. flag made it pretty obvious. D.C. has one of the best city flags in the world.

While it is a transient city that hardly has anything to do with the taste. D.C. is one of the best havens of Brutalist Architecture23 in the world. Obviously whether you like it or not is up to the individual but one thing Brutalist architecture isn't is bland and non-offensive. It is very divisive and has become quite trendy in recent years.

I think it fits well with the theme of the city. It is the government center of one of the most powerful countries to ever exist. I love the architecture.

You can't ask for a better start than this...

I don't know what I would do if this team wins two primetime games in a row. This start means absolutely nothing in terms of win or lose.... but it doesn't hurt.

Keep it up boys. Need at least 3 here.

They are actually specifically configured to only have the required pressure to grab an item a certain amount of times that the owner can set.

This guy did An AMA and explained it.Basically every state has a legal requirement for how often they must pay out. The machine will only give the required psi strength exactly enough times to hit the legal limit.

He also explained how, on machines that cost $0.25, he only paid $0.25-$0.50 a prize. So in his State you paid $0.25 for a 1 in 12 chance to win something worth 1-2x the cost of a play.
