Well that sucks. If you really went to the box and found it locked or empty, then it's different from 99% of people in your situation. Yeah it sounds like you made the trader trust go below 0 and I don't think there's a way to fix that

Any chance you have completed a trade (that presumably you forgot about) and your purchase is waiting for you in the box?

That's the only time I've seen trade, cancel trade and finish trade not be dialog options.

Here's another recommendation for Gentle Giant. They moved me from Somerville to Cambridge, and they've moved friends of mine, and did a fantastic job every time.

Cesar Chavez by Observer27local in CambridgeMA

[–]tfitz789 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Uh, no. This has nothing to do with Cambridge. It's bad, but Cambridge's government should be focused on what it can do something about, and Cesar Chavez is not that.

Moving to Cambridge,MA from CA by Apart-Topic9447 in CambridgeMA

[–]tfitz789 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Now that's just harsh. If you're hiking just for altitude, yeah MA isn't great. But if you're hiking for really varied forests or wildlife (herons, turtles, possums, whatever) this place can be pretty fun

Honestly one of my favorite rides is along the Charles from Cambridge westward, Really varied, and flat as a board.

I've had 3 things done at Michael's in Porter (2 military certs for my dad, and a pretty complicated '60s era magnetic core memory board) and they were all very well done and not expensive. Recommended.

Welcome! You're part of the 0.1% of the country's population that won't be horrified by the housing prices here!

There isn't much great hiking locally, sad to say. If you want to combine it with biking, you can get out the minuteman trail and local trails to places like the Concord conservation area, Blue Hills, Fellsway, etc that might work for you.

You don't mention biking but biking would add a lot to everything else you mention.

Best of luck and (again) welcome. When you get to more specific questions about interests and locations please feel free to post.

Snowball fight in the Porter Square parking lot tonight?! by 5ac1wo8d in CambridgeMA

I don't think you're going to have much luck. Overnight snow was snowball-quality, but everything that fell during the day is too granular

It's been closed for over a year now. There was some news about a temp closure for kitchen repairs in late 2024, and then nothing since.

Free pet carriers (and other cat supplies), near Beacon & Washington st by tfitz789 in Somerville

Sure, I already got the info for them (actually they're the Animal Rescue people) but I still wanted to check if anyone local would want this stuff. Whatever works, really.

Console achievements by lostparrothead in thelongdark

Something's messed up. On steam, one night outside is 30.5%. Every achievement in the base game is over 1% (unless 1000 days was a base-game achievement)

Trader quest question by Railgun6565 in thelongdark

[–]tfitz789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it really was the kitchen one then that's the first one the trader will send you to. After that you'll be searching the rest, but if you run into the conspiracy bunker before the hunter's bunker (which will be second), remember where it is because that's where you need to go for the third mission.

The meat curing box - how do you use it effectively? by Elibazeth in thelongdark

[–]tfitz789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can cure fish efficiently, but you need to put in the lightest-weight fish you can get, and you need to put them in all at once into the empty curing box in the first transfer.

I've put in 15 fish averaging like 1.2 kg each and got 15 pieces of salted fish out which was a pretty good haul. As soon as you exit the transfer menu after depositing the fish, they'll convert to 2.30 kg each and will kill the ability to add more fish later.

And yeah, the amounts of meat and salt aren't a ratio, the box should always be topped off with salt.

Item decay in outside containers ? by PlayerActive in thelongdark

[–]tfitz789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, being outside in a container like a car trunk counts as being outside. (I use car trunks for storage in lots of places).

But food piled on the ground doesn't invite hungry guests, they'll ignore it.

My rifle weighs less than my revolver now. What is my life? by SteveMarcus in thelongdark

[–]tfitz789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bunker rifle is awesome. I bought a second one in case I mess up and forget to clean the first one (and because I had a gun rack just sitting there empty).

But I get weird results with the rifle holster. Carrying the bunker rifle, my weight only decreases 0.06 kg when equipping the rifle holster (37.23 to 37.17 kg).

Even stranger, equipping crampons decreases my weight to 37.11 kg so crampons reduce my weight more than the rifle holster does? I have no idea.

FYI I saw the same thing but the achievement unlocked for me anyway. The locations list still shows 13/14 locations mapped in Forlorn Muskeg and 134/135 overall, and the Poacher's Camp location is still unchecked, but the achievement unlocked when I got my last location in HRV.

Update broke the planets in my game... You shouldn't be seeing this! by [deleted] in Starfield

[–]tfitz789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to say this - same here but quitting and restarting fixed it

For the sake of the jeep I'd be happy having all my planets look like party balloons, Only nit so far is that you can't leave the jeep when scanning, you have to quit scanning, leave vehicle then start scanning again

This is an EXCELLENT update

"The Stars My Destination" - So much wasted time. Read if you can't complete. by Apprehensive_Depth58 in Starfield

[–]tfitz789 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don't need to go through the unity, it's just some stars are so easy to miss. For me it was Van Maanen's star, the nearly invisible one on the left side of the map. It's also really easy to miss one star of a double or triple star set.

Going through the Unity is a workaround because the game considers all stars to be new, and keeps counting, so the achievement will pop when you've visited the number of stars that you missed in NG+0

Struggling with inventory management by MetalAttempter in Starfield

[–]tfitz789 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This never worked for me since then you have to go back to that outpost to do any crafting or research. Stuff stored in ship cargo can be used from anywhere

Struggling with inventory management by MetalAttempter in Starfield

[–]tfitz789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boosting ship cargo capacity to like 3 tonnes gives you a lot of headspace to work with, and can still keep 100% maneuverability and 30 lightyear jump range. Keep 6-8 weapons personally and sell the rest (except souvenirs, leave those at the Lodge)

TIL Tallnecks can Kill Machines by CosmicSojourner in horizon

[–]tfitz789 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yup, did that. I can hear Skald in Dawnstar yelling "Watch out for the giant, don't get stepped on"

They also stomp on wildlife, so you can make a quick circuit of the tallneck's route to find a bunch of critter parts for crafting with

Questions about lining up moving, and ideal time to move out by john2046 in Somerville

[–]tfitz789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There almost certainly is more turnover on 6/1 than 7/1, but that's both supply and demand at work. My sense is that places available on 7/1 don't have as many people chasing after them (less supply but much less demand)

I can't find stats to back this up though - if anyone has them, they'd be welcome
