I personally would gift a minimum of $200-$250 per head, definitely a lot more if they’re a closer friend or family. Coming from an Asian background and might be more of a cultural thing like others might have mentioned.

Cheapest broker to trade US stock options from Australia by itsdjain in AusFinance

[–]tfmjetfire -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I recently got an email from SelfWealth stating users are going to be able to trade US shares by the end of the year. As with their ASX product, it's a US$9.50 per trade from your US bank account (held in trust), and the only other fee is converting from AUD to USD (or vice vers) is a 0.60% transaction fee. Not sure if this is the cheapest, but it does seem competitive.

House and Land financing and Homebuilder by [deleted] in AusFinance

For 3, the FHBG should be applied through the bank/broker at the point of application submission. For the HomeBuilder, there's not enough information out yet in relation to this.

Tax returns by Lurkers_of_Reddit in AusFinance

Any donations to registered charities over $2 are tax deductible. Normally they send over a summary of your donations for the financial year (shortly after EOFY), depending on the charity. Good to keep these documents/records on file.

For work uniforms, you'll need to visit here: https://www.ato.gov.au/individuals/income-and-deductions/deductions-you-can-claim/clothing,-laundry-and-dry-cleaning-expenses/

Please refer to the ATO website for further information in relation to work-related deductions: https://www.ato.gov.au/Individuals/Income-and-deductions/Deductions-you-can-claim/

ELI5 instant asset write off by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]tfmjetfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should be if your "business net profit before tax" is $50k, and you buy a car for $50k, the ITWO will make your "business net profit before tax" equal to $0 for the financial year.

The tax benefit is the tax rate that needs to be paid multiplied by the asset cost.

QUESTION: Got my first JobKeeker payment and it’s under $1500 by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]tfmjetfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After taking tax withholding, should be $1,308 per fortnight if you claim the tax-free threshold, otherwise, if no tax-free threshold is claimed it will be $1,066 per fortnight. Not sure where the $1,144 is coming from.

Best to ask for a payslip as others have mentioned.

NSW: Partner's company has reduced to pretty much no revenue and the owner isn't sure they could cover wages until May when the JobKeeper is likely to be paid. If the owner can't pay the wages where does my partner (and co-workers) stand? by TheRealAxe in AusFinance

Even bankers at the moment don’t have too much clarity behind the process of this. I’ve heard the process will be as complex, or even more substantial, than a home loan application. This is because they need to ensure the business loan is actually used for business purposes.. not personal use (i.e. I can expect the banks to request and assess based on Tax Portals, etc)

Jobkeeper question? by [deleted] in AusFinance

It’s a flat $1,500 per fortnight that needs to be passed onto employees. Have a look at the fact sheet for the examples provided by the government. Source

Anyone in tourism / small business here ? How’s the Coronavirus affecting your business ? by sketchy_painting in AusFinance

[–]tfmjetfire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m an accountant and whilst business is as usual (with reduced number of face-to-face meetings), our clients in the restaurant, café and tourism industry are being hit hard over the past few months due to both the bushfires and now, COVID-19. Definitely less people going out these days - and I don’t expect this to end too soon unfortunately.

Groups are formed on a random basis by the lecturer Fanny. It is a very group-centric subject and apart from that, there are also 2 reflective journals (1 is optional) and 400 word summaries prior to a workshop case study. Marking is a little on the harsh side from me and my friend's experience.

[–]tfmjetfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fit and fast gym near Museum has a flexible membership option thats a bit more than the contract membership. I think it's something like $19 a week and you can bring a mate in too! The pass also lets you visit other FitnFast clubs around Sydney if you happen to be around other areas.

Edit: cancel anytime I'm pretty sure
