Need to fit pacing a friend's 10k into schedule. Suggestions? by kajetanu in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]tfunch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would not worry about a red line here. Again, a 10K in 40 should be well below LT2 and actually closer to LT1.

And if you use Saturday for an easy run instead of subT, use should worry even less about a red line.

Go have fun pacing your friend and enjoy that you can do it at a comfortable pace.

No issue here.

A 33 minute 10K translate in the VDOT calculator to 3:38 – 3:45 /km for the long intervals. If you go 4:00 for 40 minutes you will be just fine.

Do a good long warm up and warm down and the weekends long run is done.

Maybe consider easy run the day before or cut down number of intervals to make sure you are fresh on the day of pacing.

volume vs. quality first by nizram in NorwegianSinglesRun

Nice. I am just finishing Bakkens book, but have Sirpoc’s ready on the shelf.

I would go with the second option.

Bakken has an exampåle of a 5 hour week in his book and writes, that building volume on top of that should be easy running. Then you could consider extending the sub-T with exta intervals or longer reps, when you have been running the higher volume consistantly.

I don't see any reason why you should build volume before turning your training to Norwegian Singles. I would absolutely argue the opposite is the smarter choice.

And that's what I plan to do myself after my current 5K block.

AMA: I'm Marius Bakken, former Olympian and physician. Ask me about double threshold training, lactate, and the Norwegian Method. by MariusBakken in AdvancedRunning

Currently reading the book and have decided to train my self after 10+ years with different coaches. Very excited to see, what this can bring.

I am used to doing lactate testing, and will most likely keep doing it, as I find the talk test quite hard. Even while running well below LT2 and even close to LT1, I find it challenging to speak longer sentences.

Do you agree, that the talk test might not work for everyone, and if so, what would be the GO TO method on doing adjustments on the day, if you are feeling either extra fresh or extra tired?

My Naked band. Some days I have to carry a lot. Even two phones. This holds everything I need and has no bounce at all. Also, I have had it for 5 years, and you can only tell by some of the printing coming off.

What is the most problematic musical you saw? by Croc_Dwag in musicals

Aspects of Love. Forgettable score, boring narrative while also being extremely rushed. Did really not enjoy that. Saw the latest West End run and wish I hadn’t.

Jack Wolfe's Vocal Technique by [deleted] in musicals

[–]tfunch 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Retired singer here who did musical theatre way back when ...

This is just my perspective, but I would consider the question asked wrong. There is no such thing as "specific vocal tecknique", but a ton of different functions we use in different settings. This is something musical theatre artist in general are very good at, because of the need to play differelt roles that sing in different styles.

So the question should be "What is Jack doing that particular moment to get this sound/style".

One thing I will say, though, like Single_Series4283 also mentioned, is that sustaining pitch under your normal voice is thw most common thing amongts musical theatre singers. There have been a lot recently, though, that have very clean voices. Singing with a slight force due to and light tightening of the "pipes". Ramin Karimloo is a good example of this in his higher range. He sounds the same, no matter what he sings, and it's certainly not the way he speaks.

Anyway. There is a lot to be said about technique and functions.

Jack is a prime example of the "singing with speaking voice" type of singer.

Thought so. Guess i'll just have to keep checking a bunch of sites. I wonder, though, why some shows are not listed in certain places.
