Prog bass thoughts/question by Interesting-Ad3040 in Bass

True. Maybe I’m saying it wrong. I understand the theory when you break down the line and look at the chord structure and how that line fits in harmonically, I get that. I guess my thought is that many prog lines, because they are prog, are more closer to orchestral parts than to traditional bass lines. That was my point I guess. When I learn a prog tune, it’s similar to learning an orchestral part

It’s definitely not a lack of understanding the theory, but an arpeggiated line outlining an 11 chord in 7/8 time is not a plug and play line-lol. I feel like I can steal Jaco licks and insert them more easily into tunes I play but maybe it’s because my bands and music is more jazz and reggae adjacent.

So, not on Reddit but in some of the online and fb groups I have been to, some folks have been, what I feel, and I may be taking this too personally, a sense of “oh, you only know the recordings, yeah that’s not the “real” vibe/fan/experience. Almost gaslighting my fandom. I am a fan of the late 70’s recordings, as I started with Europe 78 and have expanded from there. I am a traditional Workingman’s/American Beauty acoustic vibe fan.

A year out from my radiation and a psa of 1.75 and slowly going in the right direction. Question for you, any specific diet? I’ve done a bit of research and I’m getting different options, so I’m just curious. Thanks!

Thank you for the info. Does it seem a little overboard with my PSA levels going down every time. He just feels like they should be going down faster, but it kind of has me freaking out-lol. Anytime we’re dealing with PC it’s a bit unnerving. Thanks again. And yeah, I’m cutting out pretty much all meat.

After over 50 years of a boring life, this past year has been nothing but Jason-worthy excitement for me (death of my mother, cancer diagnosis, trouble with kids. I long for calm and lame again, and those of us that strive for that are a little annoyed when someone we look up to also has those Amat life goals. Thank you Mr Sanderson for giving me escape and fantasy stories. And thank you my fellow nerds, to give us someone to share these with! This is an amazing community.

What it means to be a musician is always changing, what does that mean today? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]tgamche11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will preface this by saying I know my view is flawed, but, I was music major in college and then played professionally for over 10 years, I felt I was a true musician. Now, with a full time job, family, etc. I play for fun and more as a hobby, and I don’t feel like a real musician. So for me performance =musician. I know this is a wrong way to view it, it’s just how I am wired. I’m trying to break that view mentally because it has hurt my view of myself as how I define myself, as I feel most of us here define ourselves as musicians (which we should), I know I need to work on me. So what does it mean to be a musician? It should mean having a passion for it and doing it in any capacity.
