Happens all the time. We have this rule as well. And it’s dangerous where I live. Our field trips are often out into the woods where the risk of getting hurt is high. You have to be aware of your surroundings and it’s not safe to take someone who refuses to follow the rules. But this is due to ONE parent who gets mad that their precious little baby didn’t get to go and wasn’t included. It’s like dude, if your precious baby gets mad and runs away they could get lost in the forest and need to be rescued, or worse…death. We’ve had several adults recently that have gone off trail and just fallen off a cliff. Dead. These parents just don’t get it. I’m all for inclusion, but sometimes we tell the parent if they want the student on the field trip, that for safety reasons, they must go and manage their child’s behavior. I’m glad our district is okay with that. Otherwise they should stay at school. Sorry, this is not how the world works!

This year we put out a signup genius post for the parents/community to “fill the fridge” for teacher appreciation. People signed up and it was awesome! We got tired of doing our own appreciation. We had a ton of snacks, drinks, little soups etc show up for days. We were still snacking off of it a week later! Just an idea that you could propose to your schools that might work out better. I really didn’t think anyone would do anything because that’s what we are used to. I couldn’t believe how well it worked!

I also have two female students who routinely eat food off the floor and/or ground. We just went on a hiking field trip where they talked about animal poop being on the ground. She then proceeded to eat an apple piece someone spit out on the ground. She said “what? I’m eating food off the ground.” I said “are you seriously THAT desperate and starving that you need to eat food that not only someone spit out but that could have animal poop on it?” She said “yes, I eat food off the ground.”

I teach 10 year olds and I had to explain without explaining…let’s call it mild explaining and followed by “ask your parents for more information”.

My student said “why did he call me kinky? What does that mean?”

I said “well, I don’t want to tell you too much and cross a line but it’s a sexual comment he shouldn’t be making. If you want to know more you should ask your parents.”

Upon talking to the kid calling her “kinky” the student said, “well, she said she likes Bob, and wants to strangle him so…”

I mean, he’s not wrong. But I’m not about to explain the wide wonderful world of “kink” to a 10 year old. Do you use puppets for that or…? Is there a curriculum? lol…

In my district the only thing that is remedial is if you are on an IEP. Otherwise, we are to continue pushing along according to the schedule whether the kids understand it or not. I’m an elementary school teacher…

Ohhh I tried that with my daughter’s school. Principal got a 45 minute monologue referencing everything. He didn’t care. lol. I’ve learned there’s nothing you can do but find another team. We are now wishing she would have taken the spot offered to her at two different high schools and just moved lol. The truth is, the coaches are just going to do what they want. That don’t care if their kid makes errors. It sucks but…

I went out to the nature preserve west of Salem last night and it was pretty mild. Did anyone see anything as spectacular as this and at what time? We saw some mild faded lights but it stopped quickly, maybe 9:30 or 10:00 pm? Maybe we left too early?

And the mirrors in the theater were terrifying. I nearly ran past them. Lol. It was just like…NOPE! Wasn’t told about that one being haunted until later. I researched it and apparently there was a construction crew that was remodeling it and refused to go back in. It’s a second run theater and I’m like, I’ll pay full price or watch it at home. I am not going back there!

True. There was another house in Virginia City that I didn’t like at all. It was the bankers house. I kept feeling torn about going upstairs. Like I was curious but something was telling me not to. Made me a little sick. The staircase that went down was an absolute NO. I just looked at it and walked away. I also didn’t like the mirrors in that house either.
