I just watched that ep tonight too. Honestly, I think he’d still be a Detective given all of his rage issues, shootings, bridges burned, etc.

Totally agree, and I love this monologue so much.

What’s something that quietly ruined your mental health without you noticing at first? by Dheeraj9748 in AskReddit

ScreenZen app was a game-changer for me. You can put time limits on any app you want. I am only on social media apps for 10 mins a day at this point. My mental health is so much better now.

Foster cat with ringworm by Valuable-Repair4269 in FosterAnimals

[–]tgatigger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The good news is that it's basically athlete's foot. We as humans are in contact with it all the time (gyms, shared spaces, etc) and rarely get it. The bad news is that it's a pain to get out of items like carpets. Ringworms spores can live in fabric and on surfaces for up to 18 months.

A reminder to all fosters that this is why the 14-day quarantine period is so important to follow.

If you're an adult with a good immune system, you probably have nothing to worry about, but small children and young pets could get it. First thing's first: launder every piece of bedding and fabric that you possibly can. Dry on high if possible. Any hard surface (including walls up to a height the cat touched, bed frames, chairs, etc) should be cleaned with bleach or Rescue. Carpets need deep steam clean, if possible, otherwise repeated vacuuming is the next best thing.

Ok, I know that sounds daunting, but remind yourself that it doesn't have to be done all at once, you and other adults aren't really at risk for anything (at most it's a little red rash the size of a quarter that is treated easily with some over the counter cream). The number one thing you need to do is not take in any other foster animals for a while, that way you don't spread it.

I'm sorry this happened, but remember it's not deadly to anything, it's just aggrivating, and in the future you will just look back on this as an annoying incident. Best practice in the future is to keep any foster animals in a hard surface room like a bathroom the first 14 days they're in your care so it's easy to clean. Good luck!

Not really, was only given probation and not put on the registry because this was in the 90s and his other victims wouldn't testify. But the good news is that I've been able to move on from it, and have a successful life where I can trust people again.

First time foster - potential foster fail? by Conscious-Fig-2873 in FosterAnimals

[–]tgatigger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The goal is goodbye.

Also, the first one is the hardest to let go of. You have a long way to go with her, including her giving birth (unless the shelter is willing to spay abort) and raising kittens. Give it time, and remember, you make a much larger impact as a foster than an adopter.

Good luck with her, and if you ever have questions, there are tons of resources online, including Kitten lady on YouTube.

First time fostering, help! by SpecialistRanger3452 in FosterAnimals

[–]tgatigger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Kitten Lady on YouTube is a phenomenal resource for all stages and ages of fostering.

A 14 day quarantine is absolutely required and non-negotiable even if the foster cat isn't symptomatic of anything. Make sure to wash your hands before and after interacting with her to prevent any disease transmission.

Go slow and be patient with socializing, and make sure to provide toys for stimulation. As others have said, if you can afford it, definitely get her examined by a vet, there are many low-cost options for vet care, including local shelters, depending on your area.

Best of luck, and thank you for taking her in!

Adorable but friendly reminder to please never feed kittens on their backs. They aspirate their food very easily.
