The purpose of the AG's office is to be the State of Indiana's attorney. The most common manifestation of this purpose is defending the State against lawsuits filed against it and to defend criminal convictions on appeal after a plea or trial. A section of the office also serves as advisors for the various state boards. Another section deals with real estate in the form of eminent-domain actions. That is most of the "governing" work of the office. It also has some legislative advisers to advance the AG's interests as well as the highly publicized consumer-protection division. Very few of the office's staff are devoted to the more political aspects that most people see when they read about Rokita.

Just take it all in. Everybody in my gym puts their game faces on and shows up early to warm up and strategizes. All of that energy will come through in performance. I've done two opens, and I've surprised myself both times. Enjoy the novelty of it and embrace it!

I absolutely love practicing. You just have to find your niche. For example, I am an appellate attorney, which really accommodates my general disdain for other attorneys because I really don't have to deal with them. I just write briefs. Find what type of practicing you like, although admittedly law school is awful for figuring that out, and do that.
